Childhood Friend Is a Genius Wizard

chapter 2

EP1. The Beginning of Everything (2)

Levy couldn’t understand Shawn at all.

Sure, Sean was Levy’s only friend, and Levy never imagined life without Sean.

When Sean’s grandmother told them old stories when they were young, Sean always liked stories about heroes or adventurers defeating monsters and saving the world.

‘I’m afraid of monsters and I hate fighting.’

Levy thinks Sean’s tastes are pretty eccentric.

‘That’s right, my dad told me not to fight because it’s bad.’

I felt sorry for Sean, who likes bad things like that.

But magic is different.

Among the stories her grandmother told her, there were many beautiful love stories. Whenever Levy heard of such love, he glanced at Sean for some reason, expecting that he would love like that too.

Of course, Sean didn’t seem to care much about that.

Among them, Levi’s favorite story was ‘The Princess and the Wizard’.

A long time ago, a princess and a wizard were in love with each other.

But when the princess fell into eternal sleep due to her evil witch’s curse, the king decreed that whoever would defeat her witch and lift her curse would marry her and inherit her throne.

Then, countless adventurers and warriors scrambled to defeat her witch, but her witch was so powerful that no one could defeat it.

Time passed, thinking that no one could save the princess. As time passed, the adventurers eventually gave up on defeating the witch, the king died of old age, and even her witch disappeared.

Decades later, one day, the princess wakes up through the magic that the now elderly wizard has devoted his whole life to, and the two live happily ever after.

Sean didn’t like this story. This is because the heroes and adventurers he admired were unable to defeat the wicked witch in the end.

But Levy loved the story so much. It was because she liked the ending so much that the princess and the wizard, who were originally in love without fighting, live happily ever after through magic.

That’s why Levi bought this magic book.

Even if it was worn out and worn out, and even if most of it was destroyed by fire, Levy had no doubt that this book would make her and Sean together forever.

After such a satisfactory time for only one person, Sean and Levy walked toward the house together.

“Levy.”

“Huh?”

“What are you going to do with that book?”

“Well, you should go home and read. hehehe.”

“Can you read it?”

“You just have to find out about that!”

Shaun let out a sigh at Levy’s natural words.

Sean and Levy were able to read to some extent except for difficult words because their grandmother taught them how to read while reading to them.

Thanks to that, it was common for people to ask Sean or Levy when they needed to read in the village.

But is the magic book different no matter how different it is? There were only words written in the book that were completely different from what she had learned from her grandmother, and even that was full of burnt marks, so it was difficult to make out the shape of the letters.

Levi seemed very happy to see her walking down the street, hugging her burnt magic book and humming her song.

‘What’s good is good.’

Seeing how Levi liked her, Shawn couldn’t think of anything more to say about her, but rather, she wondered if she was overreacting.

It’s because Sean felt that just by seeing Levy happy, it was a good purchase.

Maybe the conversation with the merchant at the peddler was longer than expected, or perhaps it was because Sean woke up too late that day, and the two went home without playing any more, and by the time they arrived, the sun had already started to set.

Sean and Levy’s house is right next door. On Sean’s days off, like today, the two of them stuck together all day, although not as often as Sean has recently started going to work.

“Levy, see you tomorrow. I believe you won’t stay up all night reading that book.”

As Shawn was about to enter the house waving at Levy, Levy stopped him.

“Oh, right! Shawn, go have dinner at my house. Huh?”

“Uh… All of a sudden? Aren’t you a nuisance to Uncle?”

“It’s okay. Dad said you could bring Shawn any time! And Dad said he’s eating meat for dinner tonight.”

“···Meat? .

This is inevitable.

The only way to get meat in the village is Uncle Joe’s hunting, but since I was virtually alone, meat was very rare. Unless the peddler came to town like this time.

“Shawn, did you want to eat a lot of meat?”

“What are you talking about! I just couldn’t refuse my friend’s request…”

“Yes. I’ll hit you like that! hehehe, I like meat too.”

For some reason, Shawn blushed as if he had lost, but the two went into Levy’s house, the general store.

As I entered Levy’s house, I saw a large bear-like man who had just closed the store and was tidying up the store shelves.

It was Levy’s father, Paul. Paul had a fairly rugged appearance as well as his large size, but when he saw his daughter, Levy, her expression was relaxed and he showed a simple smile.

“Oh, my daughter. Are you here? Did you pay well?”

“Yes! Dad. And I brought Sean too! Can I have dinner with Shawn? Huh?”

“Oh, Sean is here too. Okay. Let’s eat together today, the three of us.”

“Thank you. Mister.”

Paul always took good care of Shawn. I wasn’t sure if it was because it was her daughter’s only friend, or if it was because she felt sorry for the boy living alone.

I thought it was probably the former, considering that Sean hadn’t changed even when he lived with his grandmother.

“The peddler is selling quite fresh meat, if not as much as Joe’s. I was going to call you as well, but Levi seems to have come along again.”

“I don’t know if Dad and I got along, but I brought him to dinner with Sean.”

“I mean, at times like that, I just say yes. And aren’t you taking care of your husband too much in case it isn’t yours?”

“What about my husband! We are just friends!”

“Ah, mister! What are you talking about all of a sudden!”

“hahahaha! The two fit together very well. Is it because they are a couple? hahahaha!”

A father who is usually an idiot to his daughter would hate it if he had a close friend with his daughter, but Paul rather made fun of Levy, which seemed to show that they are good friends.

Of course, Sean grumbled inside that he didn’t like the man’s behavior.

“Oh, what did you buy with the extra money? Levi?”

“Ah! Right. I forgot to tell Dad. Now, voila!”

Then Levi showed her the book that was in her arms. Paul, who had been examining the worn-out and scorched books for a while, asked her daughter.

“Huh? What piece of paper is this?”

“It is not a piece of paper. Whopping···! It’s a magic book!”

“What? A magic book?”

“Yes! With this, even Levi-sama can use magic! hehehe.”

“Oh, I thought he was a good guy because he smiled and traded at a decent price, but I can’t believe he was a scammer like this. I really misunderstood the person.”

In response to Paul’s lamentation, Sean unconsciously nodded his head, expressing deep sympathy.

“What are you talking about! Is this a real magic book? Really!”

“Dad said he would go himself because he was afraid of this. Ugh, can’t we leave that much money to the kids? But Sean, I believed you would stop Levy even if he did something strange…”

“Ahahahaha…, Because Levy liked it so much, I had no choice…”

“Well, since I’m canceling the deal now because it’s already been done, it’s a big deal if even the morning deal is affected. Instead, next time you have to listen carefully to Dad or Shawn. Got it?”

“Issang! Why are you ignoring my words!”

Oh no, Levy is about to pout. But don’t worry too much. Even if you pout, it will be solved soon.

Unlike how he looks, Levi is crazy about meat. I’m sure you’ll feel better after a while.

“Okay, let’s talk about this and now let’s have dinner. Uncle will cook you a very delicious meat dish.”

As Paul said, the meat stew he made was very delicious. And, as Sean predicted, Levy started to eat the stew as if he was inhaling it, as if he had been pouting.

Paul asked Shawn a question while eating.

“Come to think of it, I heard you are learning your job these days? Can you do it?”

“Um… Yes. I think doing work is more fun than I thought. Well, it can be difficult.”

When Sean’s grandmother passed away, she lived with the help of the village elders for a while, but through a village meeting, it was decided that Sean should now work and earn a living.

Even though Sean is still a child, he can’t live with the help of others forever.

In fact, Uncle Paul suggested that Sean live with him. Levi had hoped Sean would too.

Sean was also grateful for the proposal and thought about it very seriously, but he also wanted to live on his own rather than living with help from others.

That’s right, the adventurer Sean longs for always overcomes trials on his own in the story. He could be too, Sean was sure.

Having made such a decision, Sean has been learning the village’s work recently.

He is not learning a single job in particular, but is experiencing various jobs in the village while taking turns.

Today was a day off, and tomorrow it’s Paulo, the blacksmith, and it’s his turn to go to his grandfather.

To be honest, there hasn’t been a job that really suits Sean’s interests yet.

Of course, how many things are there to do in this small town? At most, farming, laundry, or shop management were all.

And that kind of thing felt quite boring to Sean, who yearned for adventurers.

Levy said that his dream was to take over his uncle’s job and continue running a general store, and to live in this town.

Paul’s question made Sean’s mind a little complicated, but he continued to eat.

Even after that, the three of them continued to talk and have a harmonious dinner.

***

“I’m right next to you, so you don’t have to come out to meet me like this.”

“It’s okay because I want to do it! Sean, goodbye.”

“Yes, sleep well too. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

The two boys and girls said goodbye and went to their respective homes.

The sun had completely set before anyone knew it, and no one greeted Sean when he entered the house.

A desolate and empty space. Not even a handful of light came in, so it felt dark.

Sean remembered the warm space he had just been in. A completely different warmth than now.

What is the difference between the two spaces?

Bright lights, delicious dinner, Paul who treats himself well.

And Levi.

I felt a sense of loneliness between the two contrasting spaces.

And then Sean suddenly came to a realization.

I know how important Levy is in my life now,

It was quite chilly here now without Levi.

But it’s okay.

We’ll meet again tomorrow anyway.

Because Sean knows the two of them will stay together.
