Vol.20 Ch.12: Kill Instead of Steal
The Chronomancer unleashed Chronostasis on the griffins. It was his only damage spell, so without it, he was now reduced to a below-average opponent.
Shortly afterward, the Pyromancer fired off Flame Wave, her strongest spell. That was another threat off the table.
Furthermore, both mages had spent their buffs, Haste and Burning Spirit. These buffs were about to expire by now, so this further diminished their ability to put up a fight.
Thus, even though there were two opponents over there, their combined threat level was rather low. It was very much possible for one person to strike them both down.
Fiona knew all of that thanks to the Chilling Howl she used a short while ago, which revealed all the enemies in the vicinity for a short time. Thanks to that, she could tell exactly what Venus and Average were up to, almost like she had a ward placed in the Griffin Camp.
The only flaw of Chilling Howl was the sound it produced, which was loud enough to alert the same enemies it revealed. So, the enemy was aware of Fiona’s presence the entire time. Most certainly, they were prepared to fight back her the moment she struck.
But, Fiona did not strike right away. She kept her opponents on their toes as she waited for them to finish clearing the griffins.
That must have caused much bewilderment in the enemy’s ranks, which played in Fiona’s favor. At this point, they had most likely concluded that Fiona had given up on this gank. But, that was far from the truth. It was simply a matter of priorities.
Fiona would have liked to get the griffin farm if she could, but she had a better play in mind. Instead of taking farm, she was going for the kill! And, for that line to work out, she first had to wait for the enemy to exhaust all their resources.
So, the moment Venus cast Flame Wave, Fiona appeared from around the corner and dashed her foes! Yes, she launched a solo attack on two opponents!
It might have looked like an absurdity to some, but this was a very calculated move. As previously established, the two opponents were fangless at the moment, so Fiona had no reason to fear them.
She leapt at the Chronomancer and slashed him four times in a row with her razor-sharp claws. It was her Grievous Assault, the best and only ganking tool she had available at Lv. 4.
The reason she targeted Average specifically was the man’s low HP. He arrived in the Griffin Camp with about 75%, and after tanking the griffins he fell down to 50%. Now, after Grievous Assault, he was already down to 20%.
It was unprofessional of you to let down your guard with such low HP. Fiona continued razing the dying Chronomancer with her basic attacks as criticized the man’s misplay.
In a position like this, Average should have exercised immense caution. He should have stuck closer to his side of the jungle, to make it harder for Fiona to launch an attack on him. His carelessness was about to become his undoing.
"W-What the hell-!?" Dan's heart almost leapt out of his chest! Where did this surprise attack even come from!?
Just a moment ago, he was casually farming the griffins without a single care in the world. But now, he was getting brutally assaulted by this crazy wolf woman! And, she was ripping his HP to shreds!
First, the 4-hit combo of Grievous Assault reduced him from 50% to less than 20%. After that, the Werewolf continued to claw Dan like there was no tomorrow! The woman's attacks were fast and fierce, giving Dan no opening to escape or retaliate!
"C-Crap, get me out of here!" Dan wanted to activate Haste, only to realize it was on cooldown because he just used it to farm the griffins. Fuuuuu!
I hafta get out, now! Dan turned around and ran away from the vicious beast breathing down his neck. It was time to retreat the hell outta here!
However, his partner didn’t share the same idea. “What are you doing?” Julia demanded. “Let’s kill her!” She shot a fireball at that bold wolfie. “Hmph. Who do you think you are, fighting us 1v2? We’ll MURDER you!”
“A-Are you being serious!?” Dan had no idea how else to respond. He was literally at death’s door here, yet Julia was suggesting to fight instead of retreating!? Chick was insane!
Fortunately, there was a voice of reason in the team who could convince her otherwise. “Retreat, both of you,” Howard ordered. “You can’t win here. This isn’t a real 2v1.”
“Huh!?” Julia raised an eyebrow. “What are you talking about? We’ve got her! Let’s KILL her ass!”
Instead of retreating, Julia summoned Pillar of Fire which had just come off cooldown. With the enemy this close, Julia was able to benefit from all aspects of Pillar of Fire, both the DoT effect and the buffs. This was the ideal situation to wreck this stupid wolf!
“Julia, retreat,” Howard repeated.
“No, I’ve got this!” Julia insisted on attacking the enemy, who was currently 100% focused on Dan. I can kill her! No, I WILL kill her! You can’t just waltz in here and act like you own the place, you bastard!
“This isn’t good…” Howard grimaced. The girl has totally lost it...
『An ally has been killed!』
Dan fell, that much was expected. He had no chance of escaping from a Werewolf, especially not after his Haste expired.
On the other hand, Julia should’ve been able to use this time to get away. But instead, that dumbass stayed there and fired shots at Rosemary. What was she thinking!? Or, maybe she wasn’t thinking at all…
