Chapter 64: Chapter 64 Return to Oscorp

George Stacy, who was being "surrounded" by a group of reporters, quickly received an update about the situation on the Manhattan Bridge.

His face turned pale as he shoved through the crowd, boarded a nearby helicopter, and urged the pilot repeatedly.

"Quick! Get the team ready—Manhattan Bridge! That lizard monster is on the Manhattan Bridge, and he's fighting Batman!"

"Batman?"

"Oh, now even Batman is showing up!"

Despite their grumbling, the officers all wore grim expressions. A few stayed behind to secure Oscorp Tower, while the rest jumped into their patrol cars, revving the engines and speeding toward the bridge.

Eddie and Phil Urich exchanged a look.

Just then, the Oscorp company representative arrived at the scene, sweating profusely. After a brief exchange with the remaining officers, a swarm of reporters mobbed him, cameras flashing wildly.

"Sir, what's your opinion on the Lizard?"

"Is the Lizard a mutant caused by an Oscorp experiment gone wrong?"

"Where is Mr. Norman Osborn? Will he arrive tonight?"

A barrage of questions overwhelmed the representative.

Seeing this, Eddie realized that there was no point in staying—the answers would be nothing but evasion. He turned to Phil with a sly grin.

"Phil, interested in sneaking into Oscorp with me?"

"What do you mean?"

Phil scratched his head, utterly baffled.

Minutes later.

Venom extended a tendril to bind Phil to his back, and the two scaled the darkened exterior of Oscorp, entering the building unseen.

Their goal: the site of the Lizard and Spider-Man's battle within the tower. If they could capture some photos or find evidence, it would undoubtedly make for exclusive headlines, drawing even more attention.

All for the Daily Bugle! Eddie felt a sense of pride, thinking that Jonah would never find another editor-in-chief as dedicated as himself.

The operation was silent, leaving no trace.

Manhattan Bridge.

At the center of the bridge.

Anton gazed coldly at the Lizard, who now lay before him with severed limbs. Beneath his stoic exterior, he felt a twinge of helplessness.

It wasn't that he wanted to be so brutal—it was simply a necessity.

The Lizard had an incredibly robust vitality and an advanced healing factor. Cutting off his limbs was akin to inflicting a normal severe injury on anyone else. Moreover, he could regrow his limbs, so it wasn't life-threatening at all.

In other words, the Lizard only looked pitiful right now.

To truly resolve the issue, Anton would need the antidote from the original story—a serum that only Connors and Spider-Man had the knowledge to create.

After a moment of contemplation, he picked up the Lizard and, amidst gasps from onlookers far below, leaped off the Manhattan Bridge.

Moments later, the Batmobile, equipped with flight capabilities, ascended from beneath the bridge and headed toward Oscorp in the heart of Manhattan.

This elicited another round of astonished cries.

Inside the Batmobile, Anton felt the chill of the night air as his cape billowed behind him. Unbothered, he searched his memories and recalled that creating the antidote wasn't particularly difficult; it simply required following a sequence of steps to combine specific chemicals using laboratory equipment.

The challenge lay in the sequence itself, representing the "genetic code."

At this moment, only Connors, the creator of the Lizard formula, and Peter knew the correct sequence.

As the Batmobile soared through the sky, it passed by a police helicopter headed straight for the Manhattan Bridge. Both parties froze momentarily.

Seeing the Lizard, dismembered and strapped to the Batmobile, George Stacy widened his eyes and swallowed hard. "Batman! Hand him over to us!"

Amid the howling wind and the deafening roar of the helicopter blades, George Stacy shouted his plea at Batman.

"Sorry, not now," Anton replied, shrugging. He gave George a helpless look before urging the Batmobile to speed away toward Oscorp.

It wasn't that Anton didn't want to hand over the Lizard—it was simply that the police had no way of restraining him. With his regenerative abilities, the Lizard could easily escape custody once his limbs regrew.

The only way to truly resolve the issue was to turn the Lizard back into Connors. Only then would the ordeal be over.

In short, Anton could hand Connors over to the police, but he couldn't entrust them with the Lizard. Doing so would only prolong the chaos.

"What the—?"

Watching Batman disappear into the distance, George Stacy clenched his teeth in frustration.

Although he didn't fully understand Batman's motives, he could guess that the Lizard situation was far from over.

"Turn around! Turn around!" George barked into his radio, simultaneously directing the helicopter pilot and shouting at his colleagues. "Get back to Oscorp! The Lizard is heading there with Batman!"

"What now?"

The officers racing toward the bridge were dumbfounded but quickly spun their vehicles around, racing back toward Oscorp in a frenzy.

Meanwhile, all across Manhattan—especially in the vicinity between the bridge and Oscorp Tower—people gazed up at the Batmobile streaking across the night sky, their faces lighting up with excitement.

"Batman!"

"Go, Batman! I love you!"

A group of fanatics shouted skyward.

Most of them were burly men.

Of course, there were also some women, but their shrill cries of ecstasy were drowned out by the men's roaring enthusiasm.

Mechs will always be romantic.

Feeling Batman's might firsthand, many were reminded of his epic battle against the Drake-monster on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

By extension, they felt like participants in this historic moment.

Had Anton checked his system at that moment, he would have discovered that his Batman fan points were skyrocketing, increasing at more than ten times their usual rate.

Elsewhere.

Inside Oscorp.

Peter was busy preparing the antidote, determined to have it ready for the Lizard next appearance.

During his earlier battle with Connors, Peter had learned of the man's ambitions. He knew Connors wouldn't simply fade away.

Frankly, if Connors genuinely intended to turn the entire human race into lizard hybrids, he would inevitably reappear.

And Connors' first target would undoubtedly be New York.

From there, like an unstoppable virus, he would gradually expand his reach across the globe.

At this point, Peter had no idea that his idol, Batman, had already subdued Connors and was merely waiting for the antidote to be completed.

Crash!

Suddenly, Peter's spider sense tingled. He whirled around to see a towering black figure and a man holding a camera, standing behind him after breaking through the window.

The two locked eyes, and the air grew still and silent.

Finally, Phil Urich, who was perched on Venom's back, broke the tension by waving at Spider-Man.

"Uh, Spider-Man, you and Venom know each other, right? Since you're all friends, mind striking a pose for a quick photo?"
