Chapter 56: Chapter 57: Frenzied Slaughter
On the other side, Feng Yu and Shinobu Kochou were hurrying along, with Xiao Hei doing his utmost to fly as fast as possible.
Because every second delayed meant another Demon Slayer Corps member would perish.
Xiao Hei had learned that hundreds of swordsmen from the Corps had already been dispatched, but the large number of distress signals sent out indicated how perilous the mission had become.
"This isn't fast enough... How much longer will it take to reach Tiangcheng Mountain in the southwest...?" Feng Yu's face was grim as he watched the landscape rapidly retreat behind them. He knew Xiao Hei was flying with everything he had.
But it wasn't enough. Not fast enough!
Feng Yu couldn't help but glance at Xiao Hei's status panel:
Name: Xiao Hei (Awakening Pending)
Species: Raven
Breathing Technique: Beast Demon Breathing (Mastered, Upgradeable)
Skills: Sunfire Blaze
Talent: Direction Sensing, Human Speech
Bio: A highly intelligent raven trained by a special organization.
"Upgrade!" Feng Yu immediately ordered without hesitation.
The number of slashes counted suddenly soared into the hundreds of thousands, and Xiao Hei's Beast Demon Breathing technique reached the pinnacle stage.
Xiao Hei's body trembled as he shouted:
"Master... I feel like there's a power trying to burst out of me!"
A golden light began to radiate from Xiao Hei, whose once dark feathers transformed into a soft yellow, with his head turning completely golden.
Xiao Hei's entire form had changed.
The claws on his feet became even sharper.
"Congratulations! Your pet Xiao Hei has successfully awakened. You have gained 0.0001 Divine Power."
"Congratulations! Your pet has awakened the talent 'Speed' and mastered the skill 'Scream.'"
Before Feng Yu could thoroughly examine Xiao Hei's newfound talents and skills, Xiao Hei shouted excitedly:
"Master! I feel like I can go even faster!"
With that, a burst of speed shot through Xiao Hei's body.
Feng Yu was caught off guard by the sudden acceleration, almost toppling backward. He clung to Xiao Hei's back, feeling a sharp pain in his eardrums.
After adjusting his breathing technique, the discomfort subsided, and he took the time to assess Xiao Hei's talents and skills.
Speed: Can break the sound barrier.
Scream: Sonic wave attack.
The descriptions were simple: Xiao Hei's speed had now exceeded the speed of sound.
"Now I understand..." Feng Yu watched as the ground blurred beneath them, feeling quite satisfied.
"It was worth the Sword slashes I spent!"
Xiao Hei, fully aware that his master had given him this power at a cost, pushed himself even harder to speed toward their destination.
Meanwhile, Shinobu Kochou was also racing toward Tiangcheng Mountain, her mood as grim as Feng Yu's. From her raven, she had learned that several hundred members of the Demon Slayer Corps had sent out distress signals, confirming the task was likely to end in disaster.
Both Feng Yu and Shinobu Kochou could only hope that the remaining members of the Corps could hold out just a little longer...
Time ticked by.
Within Tiangcheng Mountain
Dozens of demons with Blood Demon Arts were toying with the trapped Demon Slayer Corps members.
The remaining demons were just ordinary ones, but their eyes gleamed with greed as they watched the last few members of the Corps.
There were only a few Demon Slayer Corps members left, and although the demons had the ability to kill them all, they preferred to torment them, breaking their will before the kill.
In the Depths of Tiangcheng Mountain
Three demons with engraved eyes watched over the entire Tiangcheng Mountain.
The one with the engraving of Upper Rank Three had peach-colored short hair and dark blue tattoos all over his body—Akaza, the fearsome Upper Rank demon.
To Feng Yu's surprise, Muzan had sent Akaza to hunt down the Demon Slayer Corps members this time.
Nearby, two lower-rank demons stood respectfully before Akaza.
One demon had the markings of Lower Rank Five, and the other Lower Rank Six.
The Lower Rank Five demon hesitated and asked, "Lord Akaza, when will the Hashira from the Demon Slayer Corps arrive here?"
Akaza nonchalantly replied, "Just wait."
The two lower-rank demons dared not speak further, knowing their status as recent converts to demonhood. They had been specially chosen by Muzan because of their powerful Blood Demon Arts, which Muzan had nurtured with his own blood and a large supply of human flesh.
The two lower-ranked demons exchanged a fearful glance, involuntarily shuddering at the thought of the powerful Hashira coming for them.
The forest was eerily quiet, unnaturally still, as all the insects and animals had been scared into silence.
Among the Remaining Demon Slayer Corps Members
"No... no, don't!"
A Demon Slayer Corps member screamed in terror as he watched his comrades disappear one by one. Each time, it was in the blink of an eye, with a demon grabbing them, dragging them into the darkness.
The last image they saw was the gruesome sight of their fellow being torn apart, devoured by the demons.
The corps members, lifeless, lay with their eyes wide open, unable to close them even in death.
What was even worse was that the demons only ate the bodies, tossing the decapitated heads in front of the remaining members.
Despair.
Madness.
Blood.
It flooded every soul present.
Even the elite members of the Corps had their spirits broken, their eyes losing all hope, their expressions hollow...
"Is anyone coming to save us...?"
Tears streamed down the face of an A-Class member, his will already extinguished.
The cries and wails of his fallen comrades echoed in his mind, unable to be erased.
All resistance ceased in that moment.
Their Nichirin Swords had lost their edge. Their breathing techniques faltered. Their gazes were empty, quietly awaiting death.
The demons knew this was the perfect opportunity to wipe them all out. Yet, none of them rushed in to kill. Instead, they stood aside, discussing who would get to finish off the remaining members.
"I'll take that skinny one!"
"I want the chubby one—his flesh looks delicious!"
"I'll take the youngest one, the soft-skinned one—looks like he'll melt in my mouth..."
The demons were like traders at an auction, carefully choosing their prey.
After making their selections, they began to move in for the kill...
Just then, a sharp cry cut through the air.
"Total Concentration: Water Breathing, Twelfth Form—Raging Sea!"
"Sunfire Blaze!"
A figure descended from the sky, blue and white waves bursting forth from them.
The demons caught in the waves froze in place, and their heads fell cleanly from their bodies. In their crimson eyes, disbelief filled their gaze, as if they couldn't fathom that they had been decapitated.
"Congratulations, you have gained 500,000 slashes!"
"Congratulations, you have gained 50,000 slashes!"
...
The system's notification sound filled the air.
The demons, their heads severed, slowly turned to ash and scattered in the air.
Feng Yu didn't know how many demons had been slain by that attack. All he knew was that the system notifications never ceased.
With another deafening crash, beams of light descended from the sky, striking the remaining demons below. The demons struck by the light emitted black smoke before disintegrating into ash in the shocked gazes of their comrades.
It was Feng Yu and Xiao Hei.
The remaining demons dared not make a move. They stared at Feng Yu, and at Xiao Hei, who was soaring through the sky above them.
"Apologies... I'm late," Feng Yu said softly as he gently helped the already defeated A-Class member to his feet.
The ground was littered with blood, broken clothes, Nichirin Swords, and the heads of those who died with their eyes wide open, forming small mountains.
Feng Yu's heart clenched.
Then, a flood of rage surged within him.
"Total Concentration: Light Breathing, Fourth Form—Dawn's Radiance!"
Soft yellow lights began to appear, falling from the sky and gathering around his Nichirin Sword.
The Sword glowed a strange red and black aura, as if struggling to break free like a demon.
Feng Yu's figure vanished,
like a beam of light, plunging into the demon crowd.
The demons saw nothing but a streak of light, followed by countless glowing particles falling on them.
"So warm..."
The demons smiled, as if in bliss, before turning to ash.
"Congratulations, you have gained 500,000 slashes!"
"Congratulations, you have gained 50,000 slashes!"
...
The system notifications resumed once again.
