Chapter 55: Nezuko
---
The night was dark and still, save for the occasional creak of wood settling in the house. Ryuji sat up from his futon, his eyes adjusting to the dim light filtering through the paper windows. The room was in disarray—discarded, torn silks and what remained of a wedding kimono lay crumpled on the floor. His hands brushed over a pair of soiled white gloves.
Ryuji let out a deep, steadying breath. A strange sense of clarity washed over him, though his body felt heavy with lingering exhaustion.
As he stepped into the courtyard, the cool night air brushed against his skin. He paused. There, sitting on the wooden swing under the moonlight, was Nezuko.
Her expression was anything but serene. She swung idly, her small frame rigid with irritation. Her childish face was scrunched into a pout, and her gaze burned with silent reproach.
Ryuji's lips tugged into a small, resigned smile as he approached her.
"Nezuko," he greeted softly, his tone gentle.
She refused to look at him, turning her head sharply away with a huff.
So, she must've overheard something earlier, Ryuji thought, scratching the back of his neck. He stopped just beside her, letting the swing sway in silence.
The courtyard grew quiet, the only sound the rustle of leaves in the breeze.
Nezuko, however, didn't have the patience of an adult. After a few minutes, she snapped. Her small fists clenched tightly as she glared up at him, her sharp little fangs peeking from her lips.
"Uncle Ryuji, you're a liar!" she accused, her voice shaking with both anger and hurt.
Ryuji blinked. "Oh?"
"You promised me! You promised not to upset Mother!" Nezuko's voice cracked slightly, her frustration evident.
Her words trailed off, as if the rest were too difficult to say aloud.
Ryuji exhaled, crouching slightly to meet her gaze. "You're right. That's on me," he admitted with a small smile. "So, Nezuko, how do you want to punish me?"
Nezuko faltered, clearly unprepared for his quick admission of guilt. Her mouth opened and closed, her earlier determination to lecture him suddenly deflated.
"You... you're not even going to argue?" she stammered, her cheeks puffing in frustration. "That's not fair, Uncle Ryuji!"
"Life isn't always fair, little one," Ryuji said, his tone teasing. He ruffled her twin pigtails lightly, earning a fierce glare.
"Don't touch my head!" she snapped, shaking her head so violently her pigtails slapped against his hand.
Ryuji laughed, amused by her antics. "What's this? A Twin-Tail Whirlwind attack?"
"You're awful!" Nezuko's voice rose in pitch as she lunged at him, grabbing his arm and sinking her teeth into it with all her might.
"Grr!" she growled through her clenched jaw, her face scrunching into a determined glare. I'll make you pay!
Ryuji raised a brow, entirely unfazed by the attack. Her bite didn't even sting—it tickled. With his enhanced physical strength, her effort was about as effective as being nibbled on by a kitten.
"Ah, Nezuko," he said, feigning a pained grimace, "I'm so scared. Please, have mercy!"
"Bad uncle! I'll bite you to death!" Nezuko puffed her cheeks and bit down harder.
Ryuji chuckled softly, using his free hand to pinch her cheek. "Relax, Nezuko. You'll hurt yourself before you hurt me."
"No!" she mumbled stubbornly, her words muffled by her grip on his arm.
"Alright, you leave me no choice." Ryuji leaned closer, his voice lowering into a teasing whisper. "If you don't stop, I'll have to kiss you on the forehead."
Nezuko's eyes widened, and her resolve crumbled. She immediately released his arm and stumbled back, wiping her mouth in exaggerated disgust.
"Ugh! Gross! Uncle, your skin is so thick!" she exclaimed, sticking out her tongue in mock disgust.
Ryuji laughed. "Well, maybe you should stop biting people, then."
Nezuko glared, but her frustration was giving way to embarrassment. She crossed her arms and turned away with a loud "Hmph!"
"Bad uncle," she muttered.
Seeing her pouting like a stubborn child, Ryuji crouched to her level and gently tapped her forehead.
"Alright, little one. Time for bed. I promise I'll behave."
Nezuko paused, her gaze scrutinizing him for any sign of deceit. Finally, she nodded, her twin pigtails bouncing with the movement.
"Good. But if you break your promise again," she said, raising her fists in a mock battle stance, "I'll beat you up!"
"Got it. I'll be on my best behavior." Ryuji bowed his head playfully.
Satisfied, Nezuko turned on her heel and skipped back into the house, her small figure disappearing into the warm glow of the interior.
Ryuji stood there for a moment, watching the rippling motion of her pigtails with a quiet smile. He shook his head, his thoughts briefly drifting to Kamado Kie.
"Like mother, like daughter," he murmured, before turning his attention back to the cool night air.
Thinking of the experience not long ago, a smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
Shaking his head, Ryuji raised his arm. The tooth mark where Nezuko bit his arm had been completely healed.
"This kind of healing ability is really powerful.
Ryuji sighed.
With a smile, Ryuji no longer thought about this, but was immersed in his attribute panel.
Before, he didn't immediately add the attribute points he got to increase his strength, just because after adding the points to increase his strength, he would be unable to control his own strength in a short period of time, and he also wanted to vent his general energy, so he didn't do it.
Now that my energy has been vented, I don't have to endure anything for a short period of time, and I won't feel so uncomfortable, but I need to improve my strength.
Thinking like this, my eyes also fell on the properties panel.
