Chapter 6: Chapter 6: A Friend Of Komachi, Flustered Vignette
"Komachi, the bathwater is ready. Go take a bath."
After eating wagashi, Hikigaya told Komachi to take her bath first.
It wasn't until Komachi finished and came out that he lazily went into the bathroom to wash up. After soaking for quite a while, he slowly strolled out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel.
"Mm-hmm, Shion, don't be sad. Get a good night's sleep. I'll tidy up the room and wait for you tomorrow~."
In the living room, Komachi lay on the sofa in light clothing, dangling her fair little feet while chatting with a classmate on the phone.
Hikigaya picked up a manga about another world and sat on the sofa reading it, pondering what kind of otherworldly elf princess it might be. Could it be someone he knew?
'An elf transfer student, a demon transfer student… Most likely, even Gabriel, that angel who loves to blow the world-ending horn, is among the transfer students. What kind of karma did Sobu High accumulate to face multiple potential apocalypses?'
Just as Komachi ended her call, she quickly got up, rested her chin on Hikigaya's shoulder, and whispered.
"Onii-chan, I want to tell you something."
"Speak."
Hikigaya replied without lifting his head, his eyes glued to the manga.
"I have a classmate whose family is going through a divorce. She wants to stay at our house for a couple of days. Is that okay?"
"A male classmate?"
Hikigaya raised his head to look at Komachi, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"Of course, it's not a male classmate—it's a female classmate. She even has long black hair~ Hehe~."
Noticing what her brother particularly cared about, Komachi couldn't help but laugh mischievously.
"What opinion could I have? Just tell Dad and the others yourself."
Hikigaya lowered his head again. Komachi was the most cherished in their family. Allowing a classmate to stay over wouldn't be opposed, and it was probably just her classmate sharing Komachi's room anyway.
"Wait, what's the name of the classmate coming over?"
Hikigaya suddenly raised his head, 'Why would someone specifically choose Komachi's house? Could it be another "heroine" I knew?'
"Asogi Shion. She's a quiet, cold, aloof girl with few friends. Onii-chan, you better seize the chance~."
Komachi blinked slyly at Hikigaya, clearly worried for her brother's prospects.
"I'm not desperate enough to prey on middle schoolers."
Hikigaya retorted, knocking Komachi on the head lightly. Ignoring her cries of protest, he put away the manga and returned to his room.
'Asogi Shion… That name doesn't ring any bells. Maybe meeting her tomorrow will jog my memory.'
If he had known he'd traverse a world blending pure love and cuckold tropes, he would've watched every anime and doujin carefully.
Now, he couldn't even recall how many doujins he had read, let alone the names or detailed plots within.
——
Asogi Shion.
A quiet, cold, aloof girl with long black hair.
They say Hikigaya met her long ago. Komachi even dug up an old photo of Shion on her phone. She looked rather stunning in the picture.
However, even after Hikigaya lay in bed, he still couldn't recall which doujin protagonist Asogi Shion was.
Maybe he was overthinking it. Asogi Shion might just be a beautiful NPC in his life.
In the 2D world, it wasn't unusual to encounter many beautiful NPCs.
"Yahari! Wake up, HACHIMAN!"
It felt like the blink of an eye. As Hikigaya opened his eyes, morning had arrived, accompanied by a familiar wake-up call.
Rubbing his eyes, he looked at the blanket half-lifted off him, then at the two short-haired blue-haired twin beauties standing by his bed. Slowly, he climbed out of bed, walked to the window, and opened it.
Komachi's room window faced Kaede and Suzu's home. His window, however, overlooked a three-story, old apartment building next door. The apartment had never been fully occupied and often housed less than half its capacity, sparing them from being disturbed by excessive foot traffic.
Hikigaya glanced at the old apartment nearby before shifting his gaze to the distant scenery, breathing in the fresh air.
Living next to a demon felt more reassuring than living next to an angel.
Hikigaya looked at the old apartment not far outside the window, his gaze passing over the building to look at the distant scenery, taking a deep breath of the fresh air outside.
"Living next to a demon... somehow feels a little more reassuring than living next to an angel."
His "Love Live System" probably wasn't just a system for dating, but its current performance wasn't very strong. Until he successfully developed himself, he still needed to lay low, tightly cling to Vignette's thigh, and start flattering her.
'Hmm...'
Hikigaya opened the love list, selected, added, Vignette.
"Hey! Hachiman, aren't you going to react? I came to wake you up early in the morning."
Kaede, seeing Hikigaya get up without even glancing at her as if treating her like air, raised her brows, and angrily walked over to grab Hikigaya's pajama collar.
"You've come to wake me up so many times before; do I still need to act surprised or shy? Just saying thank you would seem perfunctory to you."
Hikigaya remained unfazed, catching her smooth, soft hand and pulling it off his collar, shaking his head helplessly.
Kaede's temper was still as fiery as ever. He thought that becoming the student council president would make her restrain herself a bit.
But perhaps Isshiki chose Kaede as the student council president because of her straightforward nature. Under the influence of a charismatic personality, being straightforward and enthusiastic wasn't a bad thing.
"If only you were as quiet and well-behaved as Suzu."
Hikigaya said this while looking at Suzu, who was quietly watching him and Kaede from the side, and added.
Both were twins, yet their personalities were so vastly different.
"What do you mean by quiet and well-behaved? Suzu just doesn't talk much, that's all."
Kaede rolled her eyes at Hikigaya indignantly. Suzu wasn't the obedient, well-mannered type of girl; she just had many sly little thoughts.
It was just that Suzu's facial expression was almost always blank, and only when her mind was rich with inner activity would there be subtle changes in her expression, making it hard to notice.
"Alright, you guys leave now; I'm going to change."
Hikigaya waved them off, opening his wardrobe to find his school uniform to change into.
Sobu High's school uniform was Western-style, very stylish in appearance, but it tended to wrinkle easily and couldn't be used as casual wear.
Of course, the main reason was the inspection of attire by the discipline committee at the school gate. If it didn't meet standards, the committee members would watch you fix it before allowing entry. Otherwise, he might have worn his uniform to bed, then just freshened up and had breakfast before heading out.
"Hmph, it's not like I want to watch anyway. Suzu, let's go."
Kaede glanced at Hikigaya, huffed indignantly, and opened the door.
"..." Suzu silently glanced back at Hikigaya and followed Kaede out without saying a word.
Hikigaya changed into his uniform, grabbed his tie, and tied a casual knot in front of the mirror before heading downstairs.
Kaede and Suzu were twin beauties with short blue hair—one fiery and one quiet and introverted. Hikigaya couldn't help but think of a pair of twin beauties he particularly liked.
Unfortunately, that work didn't exist in this world. While his domestic skills were decent, he was still a bit short of being able to create high-quality cosplay outfits himself. Otherwise, he'd want to sincerely ask them to play along in cosplay...
Of course, given Kaede's fiery temper, the more likely outcome would be her pinning him down on the bed and beating him up.
Hikigaya walked into the living room and found, besides Komachi eating a sandwich and drinking milk, and the Kaede-Suzu sisters, a purple-haired girl in Sobu High's uniform sitting properly on the sofa.
Her legs were together, her back straight, hands resting at the junction of her pleated skirt and smooth thighs, and her slender, fair calves under the pleated skirt were wrapped in black cotton socks.
"Good morning, Vignette. Want to have breakfast together?"
Hikigaya greeted Vignette, who was wearing a brand-new, well-fitted Sobu High uniform.
"Good morning, Hikigaya-san. No, no need, I've already eaten. I'm sorry, I seem to have come a bit early…"
Sitting properly, Vignette quickly waved her hand, looking awkward as she glanced at Hikigaya, who had just come downstairs, and Komachi, who was eating breakfast.
Since it was her first time training in the human world—though it was called training, she still had to attend school—she felt both happy and excited. After waking up early, she couldn't wait to go out.
But after stepping out, she remembered she had agreed to go to school with her neighbor. Since they hadn't even had breakfast yet, coming over so early felt a bit rude.
"It's fine. Hachiman doesn't mind these things. You're so cute; he'd be more than happy to have you over."
Before Hikigaya could respond, Kaede cheerfully waved her hand, indicating there was no need to mind.
Yesterday, when Vignette visited their house, Kaede had already interacted with her. This new transfer student seemed pretty easy to get along with.
However, when Kaede and Suzu came over to wake up Hachiman earlier, they hadn't expected to find Vignette already standing at the Hikigaya family's door waiting for him.
If they hadn't invited Vignette inside to wait, she might still be standing outside foolishly.
"Uh… please don't joke like that…"
Hearing Kaede's casual compliment, Vignette's face turned slightly red.
'Yesterday, Hikigaya-san was like this. Today, this student council president is also like this. Why do they all like to give compliments?'
Of course, Vignette knew Kaede was joking, but constantly hearing such jokes was truly embarrassing. If she ever took them seriously, it would be a problem.
"Yes, Vignette, you really don't need to be so polite. I always just call you Vignette, so you can call me Hachiman like Kaede does."
Hikigaya acted as if he didn't see the blush on Vignette's face and nodded, following Kaede's words to suggest Vignette change how she addressed him.
Kaede, who was smiling beside them, froze when she heard this. Then her gaze turned fierce as she glared at Hikigaya.
'Flirting with the new transfer student right in front of me?'
'Are you not taking me, the student council president, seriously anymore?'
"Uh, can I directly call you by your name?"
Vignette bit her lip, hesitating a little as she looked at Hikigaya.
She had no objections to directly calling him by his name, but before coming here for her internship, she had learned some relevant information. It seemed that names were considered quite important here, and generally, one shouldn't address others by their names so casually.
"Of course you can."
Hikigaya suddenly felt a pain in his waist and realized that Kaede, beside him, was smiling while sneakily attacking him. He rolled his eyes, directly grabbed her hand, and explained to Vignette, "We're neighbors now, and we'll have to go to and from school together often in the future. Being overly formal will just be troublesome."
Vignette being too polite with him would be a problem. After all, Vignette was a demon, and it was obvious she was still a little demon needing to intern in the human world. If he didn't get closer to her, she might turn around and hang out with her angel and demon friends instead.
He needed to take advantage of the time when Vignette was still unfamiliar with the human world to strengthen their relationship. Then, he could address the weaknesses of Gabriel, Satanichia, and the others, making it much more likely for him to integrate into their little circle.
Although he didn't expect the Love Live System to turn him into a big shot capable of overthrowing Heaven and Hell, at least it should make Gabriel, Vignette, Raphiel, and the others have a great fondness for him, right?
During their time at school, he could lend them plenty of help, to the point where they'd feel so indebted that they'd voluntarily stick to him. He wouldn't even have to ask for favors.
'Hmm...but something about this feels odd, like I have turned into the third wheel barging in...'
"Then...can I call you Hachiman-kun from now on?"
Vignette, caught up in her thoughts, didn't notice the actions of Hikigaya and Kaede. After carefully thinking for a while, she asked him seriously.
Considering she'd be living here for at least three years, there would inevitably be many times she'd need help. Being too formal wouldn't be appropriate, so she chose to accept his suggestion.
"No, I think it'd be better if you drop the '-kun' as well."
Hikigaya corrected her. If they were going to be on a first-name basis, it should sound closer. Being overly formal would make it harder for him to ask Vignette for favors in the future.
"Vignette, you better be careful with this dead-fish-eyed guy. He's probably overly desperate from never having had a girlfriend before. Now, seeing how cute you are and that you're living alone next door, his enthusiasm must mean he's planning to make a move on you."
Seeing how Hikigaya, who usually exuded a lazy and salty vibe, was suddenly so proactive toward the new transfer student, even emphasizing her calling him by name, the hot-tempered Kaede didn't hesitate to stomp on him. She then pulled Vignette to her side and sternly warned her.
"Ah? Ah-ah-ah?"
Being pulled over by Kaede, Vignette was initially puzzled. When she realized what Kaede meant, her ears instantly turned red, and she stammered while looking at Hikigaya, unsure of what to say.
She had only met him yesterday and was seeing him for the second time today, and now he was going to confess to her?
'The books said people here were more reserved, didn't they? That book must've been fake.'
"Vignette, don't listen to Kaede's nonsense. I just think that since you're a new transfer student living alone in a rented place, you might need a lot of help."
