Chapter 428: Chapter 428: Contempt
Upon hearing the voice from outside, Queen Dilara of the Drow's expression immediately darkened. Since she had united the Underdark as a chosen of the gods, no one had ever spoken to her with such disparaging arrogance, and she couldn't help feeling a sense of unreality and absurdity.
"Who dares to be so presumptuous?" An elder elf immediately called out from beneath the throne.
In Erathia, although there isn't an exact saying like "a servant dies for his master," a similar concept exists. Drow elves, although typically engaged in scheming and intrigue, know when to put aside internal conflicts.
In the face of a powerful external enemy and sufficient interests, these dark elves would unite. Any race that does not unite under such circumstances is bound to be destroyed by other races and would not last.
"Golden Sunlight, Atreus!" The confident and authoritative female voice sounded again, accompanied by a powerful and oppressive aura of dragonic might.
"A golden dragon!" Hearing the title "Golden Sunlight," Queen Dilara's expression soured. Atreus, a legendary golden dragon renowned worldwide, was well known even if not personally seen. Legends are few, and their circles are not so large.
"Too much bullying." It was clear from Atreus's tone that she came looking for trouble, which annoyed some of the Drow elders.
Although these elves had habits completely opposite to those of the surface forest elves, they still retained some elven characteristics, like their pride.
"What is this 'Golden Sunlight's' relationship with the ruling Grand Duke? Is she a direct relative?" A Drow minister speculated with a frown. "But what does she want with us? Since Muria ascended, he has forced us to tribute fifty thousand cubic meters of elemental crystals every year, and we have never failed in our deliveries."
"We have always been oppressed by their dragons, and we have never provoked them," a Drow elder said resentfully.
"Why talk so much? Come with me and see what this legendary golden dragon has the audacity to come here alone and provoke me," Queen Dilara said coldly, feeling only the dragonic might of the Golden Dragon Mother as her figure disappeared from the dark golden throne.
...
Above the Drow elf capital, colored mainly in dark purple, Atreus, with long hair reaching her waist and enveloped in a layer of golden light, stood in midair, like her title, akin to a sun descending into the sunless realm of the Underdark.
This forced the majority of the original inhabitants of the elf city, who had never seen the sun, to squint and look up involuntarily.
"Golden Sunlight Atreus." Queen Dilara, also with white hair down to her waist, appeared opposite the Golden Dragon Mother, suppressing the urge to attack her, "What are you doing in my Medis Kingdom?"
"Really dark!" The Golden Dragon Mother observed the Drow elf girl, whose jet-black skin contrasted starkly with her white-as-frost hair, and couldn't help but mutter softly.
The Golden Dragon Mother thought if she shaved off all the hair from the Drow Queen and threw her below, she might not be able to spot her based just on her eyes.
Hearing the Golden Dragon Mother's whisper, Queen Dilara's face immediately darkened, knowing that surface dwellers often regard white as beauty.
"Are you Dilara?" the Golden Dragon Mother asked after her remark.
"Yes, this is our great Queen Dilara," said the elf elders, one by one appearing behind her, subdued by Dilara's military might.
Below the castle, the Drow army was mobilizing. Hideous spider-transformed Drow leaped across elegantly designed buildings, and numerous Drow elves armed with curved blades leapt into the air, countless strong bows and crossbows aimed at the Golden Dragon Mother in midair, waiting for the queen's command to unleash a volley.
"What do you want from me?" Seeing the city below quickly entering a state of combat readiness, Dilara asked the Golden Dragon Mother for the third time, her face stern.
If it were any other legend daring to be so brazen on her turf, Dilara would have ordered an attack already. However, the figure before her was a renowned golden dragon, causing Dilara much apprehension. At this stage, she wanted to conserve strength, waiting to vie for a demiplane soon.
"Didn't you hear?" The Golden Dragon Mother Atreus feigned surprise, looking at Queen Dilara, "I told you to come out and take your beating."
"Is that so!" Dilara's eyes narrowed slightly, her hand raised to strike.
"Dilara, don't be rash; my task was merely to get you out here. I'm not the one who's going to beat you," chuckled the Golden Dragon Mother,
her demeanor carefree.
"Kill her!" Dilara paid no heed to the Golden Dragon Mother, her hand sweeping down. Now that they were confirmed enemies, why listen to her ramble? Just kill her and settle it.
"How decisive! Truly worthy of a founding queen who united dozens of Drow families," the Golden Dragon Mother said with a relaxed smile, conjuring a staff in her hand with a light tap, a majestic eight-pointed golden dragon phantom appeared, enveloping her.
The Protection of the Dragon King Demos!
This was a defensive spell specially created by the Golden Dragon Mother Atreus after Demos ascended to Dragon King status, utilizing the connection between their bloodlines to borrow her father's power for attack or defense.
Before activating this bloodline spell, there would be a check to see if Demos was in combat; if so, the spell would be abandoned.
Otherwise, if Demos was in a matched battle and the Golden Dragon Mother suddenly drew his power, it would be disastrous. Demos would not refuse his daughter's request to borrow his strength.
The golden phantom of the Dragon King enveloped the Golden Dragon Mother, blocking all attacks and preventing any harm to her. However, after blocking this wave of attacks from nearly all the Drow elves, the phantom of Demos shattered.
After all, Demos was no longer in Erathia, and the distance was too great. The power lent to the Golden Dragon Mother was very good to block this wave of attacks, already proving the Dragon King's immense power—against the combined force of nine legendary figures and hundreds of thousands of Drow elves.
Although the defense shattered, it still bought the Golden Dragon Mother enough time. The moment the Dragon King's phantom shattered, countless swirling spatial gates appeared, filled with storm giants riding giant birds and agile dragons, all appearing instantly, overwhelming the Drow elves with their imposing presence.
"Princess Atreus, the spatial blockade is complete!"
