Chapter 46: A Day in Dugu Yan's Life

Early the next morning, when Yang Potian and Yang Ping'an began their daily spear practice, Dugu Yan unexpectedly joined them, catching both of them off guard.

Noticing their surprised expressions, Dugu Yan flashed a proud grin. "What? You two think you're the only ones who can train? Why shouldn't I join in, too?"

Yang Potian shook his head, picked up his usual iron spear, and started his exercises. Recently, he'd finished mastering the basics of spear techniques and was now moving on to more advanced styles. These included techniques from famous historical spear styles like the Overlord Spear, Yue Family Spear, and Yang Family Spear.

Though these traditional spear techniques had been well-known in his previous life, he had only learned a bit from books and online videos. Yet now, with plenty of time and commitment, he intended to delve deeper.

Dugu Yan watched them, clearly wanting to join in, but realizing she knew nothing about spear techniques. She had never even handled a spear before, leaving her unsure where to begin.

Finally, she broke her silence and interrupted their training. "Hey, can you two stop for a second? I need to ask something."

Yang Potian raised an eyebrow. "What is it, Yan Yan? Morning is the best time for training. We don't want to waste it."

"Can you teach me how to practice with the spear?"

"Yan Yan, your martial spirit is a beast spirit. Practicing spear techniques isn't necessary for you."

"But if you're both practicing, what should I do?"

Yang Potian thought for a moment. There really isn't a set training routine for her, he realized. Then he recalled how Shrek Academy had their students run while carrying weights as part of their training. While this method might not yield miraculous results, it could be helpful for beast spirit users like her.

Since Dugu Yan had a beast martial spirit, specifically one geared for control, improving her agility could be beneficial in making her harder to target in battle.

"Yan Yan, I have an idea for your training. You could try running laps around the training grounds—or even around the entire clan grounds—while carrying weights. It's effective for building endurance."

Dugu Yan looked doubtful. "Running with weights? Will that actually help? I've never heard of this kind of training before."

"Carrying weights while running builds resilience. It's especially useful after exhausting yourself, as it improves the effects of medicinal baths and meditation. In the Po Clan, everyone trains by hiking with weights in the afternoons. Why don't you join us today?"

"Alright, I'll give it a try. But if it doesn't work, you're in trouble! My poison is no joke, you know."

Hearing her confidence, both Yang Potian and Yang Ping'an were speechless. She's awfully cocky for someone who lost so easily, they thought. And considering poison mastery, she couldn't necessarily surpass their clan.

So that morning, while the brothers practiced their spears for two hours, Dugu Yan ran with weights strapped to her. Though her load was lighter, it didn't take long before she was panting heavily, nearly out of breath.

When Yang Potian and Yang Ping'an finished their morning spear exercises, she staggered over to them, looking exhausted. "You only practice spear techniques… is this enough training?"

Yang Potian and Yang Ping'an simply smiled. Then Yang Ping'an said, "Yan Yan, you should try holding the spear that Potian used this morning. Then you'll understand."

Dugu Yan, puzzled, went over to the spear rack and grabbed the spear Potian had been using. Immediately, a powerful weight pulled her arms down. She struggled to hold on, both hands barely steady.

"Why is this so heavy? This must be at least 200 pounds! You trained with this all morning?"

"Yep," Yang Ping'an replied, nodding. "That spear is exactly 200 pounds. And Potian also has about 50 kg of weights on him. My load is lighter, but combined with my spear, it's still around 100 pounds."

Dugu Yan gaped. "How do you even manage that? You're only eight years old."

"Practice, constant practice. And choosing spirit rings from strength-based spirit beasts."

Dugu Yan's jaw dropped. Eight years old? Is this normal for an eight-year-old?

Without further comment, Yang Potian returned to his room, showered, changed into clean clothes, and joined the family for breakfast.

After breakfast, Yang Potian, Yang Ping'an, and Dugu Yan headed to the family school for their morning lessons.

Yang Potian, however, spent most of the class time either reading on his own or meditating. The lessons held little value for him, as he'd already learned most of the material from books. Dugu Yan, meanwhile, quickly attracted the attention of the younger students, who surrounded her with curiosity. They were around eight or nine years old and were fascinated by their new classmate, though she found all the attention a bit overwhelming.

In the afternoon, after their studies in medicine and alchemy, the three started their physical training. While the Po Clan's afternoon training used to focus solely on hiking with weights, Yang Potian had expanded the routine. It now included weighted running, hill climbing, swimming, and even frog jumps—each session leaving everyone thoroughly exhausted.

Since it was Dugu Yan's first time, she firmly refused to participate in swimming, admitting she didn't know how and disliking water in general. At first, she proudly kept up with the boys' training weights, but halfway through, she was utterly drained and had to be escorted to the resting area.

That evening, Niu Jinfeng had to carry the three children back home, as they were too tired to walk. Dugu Yan was especially exhausted, barely able to move her limbs. Once home, each of them had a medicinal bath, which Niu Jinfeng had prepared in advance.

As a Spirit Master family, the Po Clan had several servants who took care of chores like cooking, laundry, and heating water. The herbal baths, however, were Niu Jinfeng's responsibility.

They soaked for about half an hour, after which each of them felt noticeably rejuvenated. Then, the family gathered for a hearty dinner of soul beast meat, vegetables, grains, and broth.

After the bath, Dugu Yan felt surprisingly refreshed. Her body felt remarkably light and free from tension.

Once dinner was over, they all returned to their rooms to meditate. That evening, Dugu Yan noticed something unusual. Though she had often taken medicinal baths before, the effects were more pronounced this time, likely due to the intense afternoon training. Her meditation was also noticeably smoother. She couldn't quite understand why, but she stifled her curiosity and continued to focus on her meditation.
