Chapter 08: Rampaging Beast
“This way, hurry!” Dan called out to the villagers leading them into a large blue magic barrier while Erica kept on pushing the hordes of monsters back.
To her, they were more or less small fry but having to deal with them continuously without end was starting to get on her nerves.
“Lady Erica, most of them are secure behind the barrier!” Dan called out to the Lightning Princess.
“Finally,” Erica smiled as she twirled her spear before planting it down on the ground.
[Volt Wake!]
A circular wave of lightning erupted around her and expanded in all directions, frying all the monsters that got hit by its impact leaving a large part of the village cleared of monsters.
“Whew! Now that wasn’t so bad was it.” she said with a triumph pose, her hands on her waist.
But in a way, she jinxed it.
One of the houses exploded as Blaze was hurled through it, rolling across the ground before crashing into the side of another building.
“Fellis!” Erica eyes widened.
And once she got to look at him, she gasped.
The boy coughed up more blood as he slowly lifted his head, which was covered in red. Emerging from the wreckage of the destroyed house, Kalius walked forward, his breath coming in fierce, ragged gasps.
“Did he get bigger?” Erica asked herself as she got ready to attack, but just as before Kalius barraged towards Blaze, and seeing this the boy also took in a deep breath and tightened his fist before screaming and charging back at Kalius.
Kalius leaped up with his sword while Blaze slid down and managed to get behind him before he leaped up as well. Midair Kalius turned just as Blaze's flaming fist came for his head. The punch exploded with a destructive force, causing the now beast of a man to flinch. He then pulled out his right hand while still in midair.
[Fire Claw!]
The flames roared as they gathered around his right hand, shaping into a massive claw of fire. He struck at Kalius with it, sending him crashing to the ground with a thunderous impact before he too touched down. All went silent for a moment before Kalius came charging from the cover of dust. He lunged toward Blaze with his held out. Since the man came charging abruptly, Blaze couldn't dodge in time so he quickly waved his hands in a circular motion summoning a barrier of flames. But that was not enough for Kalius rammed through it with his blade and sent Blaze crashing into another building from the impact.
Erica was about to attack Kalius when black tentacles emerged from the ground and took hold of her, she tried as much as she could to break free but it was of no use. No matter how much she struggled to break free the damn things wouldn't even loosen up. As the despair began to show in her face, she turned back to the boy who was luckily still alive.
Despite the beating he received, Blaze still managed to get up but seemed even weaker than before. Looking at Kalius, the beast of a man stood watching him, Blaze wondered why, then he heard a creaking sound above his head. Looking up, he realized that he was standing inside a half-destroyed building, its supporting platforms, gone.
“Huh?” Blaze mumbled before the whole building caved down on him.
“Mghm!!” Erica screamed through the binds that restrained her mouth, as she watched Blaze get buried by the rubble.
When the dust cleared up, her eyes widened in horror as she saw part of Blaze's body outside the rubble. His lower body was completely buried and the boy showed no signs of moving. Erica struggled still and managed to get her loose. She held it out in his direction and was about to do something, but hesitated. It was only when Blaze's body moved slightly that her resolve returned and she began to mumble some words behind her bound mouth.
Bright blue magical lights began appearing around Blaze, steadily increasing in number. As a result, he slowly began to open his eyes.
“This…is…” Blaze muffled as his hazy gaze turned to Erica, only to see her casting the spell.
As the surge of the girl's magic washed over him, his vision slowly darkened until he lost consciousness.
