Chapter 13: Figuring out What the hell is going on.

During my venting episode on the dragon, I was screaming and shouting at it, but after one particular comment I made about it unfairly killing me, its eyes widened. It jumped back and started speaking in a rapid-fire manner.

"No no no no no! you are not dead!" It said in one breath.

I stopped mid-motion, my leg about to connect to its ass again with a vicious kick.

"What?" I said, my voice still laced with anger.

"I swear! You are not dead. You are in a coma, and your consciousness is here until you wake up!"

"How do you know that? And what is 'here'?' I said, my thoughts starting to churn.

"T-this is your soul!" The dragon said, her head peeking from where it was hidden before, under her tail. I noticed how her eyes shined gold, the same as that orb on the back of my hand... And very similar to my own eyes, too. "And I can see the outside world around you whenever I wish now that I have awakened. Even when you are here."

'My... soul? Huh.' I thought, finding the idea plausible. The last time I died, I wasn't brought to some heaven or limbo; I just woke up as a new person. It would be weird to switch the formula now.

But this is still bad. It said I was in a coma. That would be disastrous if I didn't wake up and was stuck here for years on end.

I settled down on the ground, my anger dissipating. I need to figure out exactly what happened.

"Tell me exactly who you are, what happened to me, and why it happened."

The dragon looked relieved at last as the ass-kicking was finally done. It lifted its head slightly more and looked at me.

"Okay," It nodded, gathering itself. "I'm Luxara, Dragon of Evolution. The Evergrowth Gear." She said proudly but then deflated when I glared at her, wanting to get on with it.

"Uh.. Yes, you wanted to know what happened. So, when you healed that boy, I sensed the presence of another dragon-type sacred gear that was on the verge of awakening due to the boy's life-threatening state, which stirred me from my sleep."

"You are my first host, so I only have a little experience dealing with humans. But we have certain knowledge instilled into us when we were turned to Sacred Gears by the biblical God. Knowledge on how to fully awaken and read our host's memories to fully integrate with them."

"You started feeling tired after that because I was drawing some power to wake up fully. When you reached the bathroom, I had fully awakened at that point, and your first transformation happened. I didn't notice it initially because I was busy trying to make sense of the jumbled...memories..."

The dragon winced and stopped talking when it- She, I'm assuming at this point by the name and the feminine voice- saw my anger flare back up at the reminder of what she had done.

I took a deep breath and calmed down; I needed the story from her now. Getting angry won't get me anywhere.

I motioned for her to go on as I schooled my face back into a neutral state.

"So, uh... I... didn't know I would use up that much power. I could sense the power inside you, and it felt like it was on a completely different plane compared to any other human. You can even rival a newly born dragon in Magic capacity. A very newly born dragon, but still a dragon. So I thought there would be no issues if I used a bit more power... but I forgot I was channeling this power through a human body because of your power capacity. I used Dragon standards for the rate at which I drew power.

Your body started breaking down because of it, and I was so immersed in reading your memories that I didn't notice what was happening until it was too late. When I stopped the draw of power and retracted the transformation, you had already blacked out and were bleeding profusely. Fortunately, your mother came a few seconds later to give you the towels you had forgotten to take with you. When she called for you, and you didn't answer, she got worried and entered and saw you lying on the floor, convulsing and bleeding. She quickly used a basic healing spell on you and called the emergency line to ask for an ambulance. You were soon taken to a hospital and are now being monitored by many doctors." The dragon finished her telling of the events and then bowed deeply.

"I'm truly sorry. I misjudged what your body could handle and got too absorbed in reading your memories. The fault lies completely with me. I have no excuse for what I have done other than you were my first host, and I have no experience dealing with humans before."

I just barely contained my anger.

'I... nearly died because of a stupid, novice dragon.'

But, in the end, it was a mistake. And from what my mother taught me, sacred gears are a blessing to their hosts, and they would stay with them for the rest of their lives.

Since I knew I was stuck with this dumbass for the rest of my life, I decided to let the mistake go. She seems sorry enough; I already kicked her ass for it, and well... I wasn't dead.

I sighed loudly as I looked her in the eyes.

"Raise your head and listen," I said, stern but no longer angry.

Luxara raised her head hesitantly and looked at me.

"I will forgive you for the stupidity that you have committed. But I need a guarantee first. From what I understand about sacred gears, we are to be partners for life. I won't tolerate any more stupid acts like this, so I want you to promise, right here and now, to ask me before you do something like that ever again. Got it?" I finished my ultimatum.

The dragon looked abashed at being called stupid, but she shook herself, stood tall, and nodded. "Yes, I'm sorry again, and I will strive not to hurt you as I did with dumb mistakes." Luxara said hesitantly before finally adding, "Are we good now...Partner?"

I sighed again, but a small smile crept onto my lips this time. I just couldn't bring myself to stay angry at this idiot for long, which I assumed would bring me lots of headaches later, but I decided I would with that when the time came.

"Yeah, we are good, Partner."
