Embryonic Life

Chapter 2: blanket Ghost

8 years later...

As the crickets chirping became louder, the rain storm from above rumbled, large drops of water fell down, the village was like a Gasoline lamp illuminating the dark surrounding Area.

In a house made of logs a family of four was gathered on a table.

Their faces was lighted by the candle in front of them, they have a warm smile on their faces, their gaze staring intently at a young boy.

In front of this young boy, a huge cake was laid out, with five candles pierced on top of it, illuminating his young innocent face, a couple of words was etched on the cake that reads,

'Happy birthday wolfern'

"Thank you so much! Mother, Father, and big brother! This cake looks tasty and delicious! Although it looks like a bit.. hmm.. like a boo-"

His dark pupils was full of warmth as his innocent voice floated up, the happy atmosphere became more warmer, it was a happy occasion, his mother with green emerald eyes and black wavy hair was looking at his Father.

His Father was scratching the back of his head his eyes big flashing with innocence, looking at his mother's warm smile, with an apologising look.

His brother was laughing hard at the side, his eyes full of tears, as he held his stomach,

Blowing the candle, he secretly wished about something, as his innocent smile looks at the candles that he blows a lightning strike rumbled from the sky.

"What wish did you make?" With a smile his mother asked.

His Father and brother looks at him curiosity shining on their eyes.

Wolfern touched his chin seemingly deep in thought and said."Mhhhmmm, It's a secret hehe."

They laugh as they hear his reply. His big brother secretly fetch a book on the ground and begun to read.

His mother and Father was fetching plates and arranging it on the table.

Wolfern, used the wooden spoon by the side to get a huge piece of cake, this cake looks brown with a hint of white, there was no sweet coating as it was purely made of flour, making its texture looks like a bread shaped into a cake.

His mother and father initially wanted to make a honey cake, but without any ingredients only having flour at their disposal they initially thought their little son would not like the 'cake' they made, but by looking at his happy face they felt proud.

"How does it taste?" His Father asked, his dark eyes gazing at him with warmth.

"Actually it tastes bland... but after carefully tasting it I felt happy because I know my Mother and Father made it for me hehe." Wolfern answered, his innocent eyes gazing at them naively, on the corner of his mouth pieces of cake was stuck, his mother lovingly wiped it for him.

His brother on the other hand was now focused on eating and reading, his eyes occasionally darting on a book on his hands eating while reading.

His Mother, looked at him disapprovingly, "Hayden, eat first, your book can wait, this was your little brother's birthday."

"Yeah, I know..." his lazy voice sounded, his gaze not leaving the book.

A year ago, a merchant passed through their village, claiming he had found a magic book while scavenging among the dead.

His brother's dream of becoming a powerful mage flared up, immediately buying the book excitedly not even checking the contents.

Midnight...

The rain finally stopped. The crickets was still chirping nonstop.

'Grrlk'

'Grrlk'

On his bed, wolfren was sleeping, suddenly he opened his eyes, hearing a gurgling sound echoing softly on the air, the insects noise accompanied it.

'What's that sound?'

Wolfren thought.

He sat up on his bed, as he look at his brother's empty bed, his heart Immediately raced.

In this dark room, he was alone. Their parents was on the other room, just a few steps away, but hearing that sound his initial Grogginess got washed away as fear of darkness attacked his mind.

His heart beating crazily like a drum, his eyes trembling, as the curtains made of hemp swayed besides him, his fear becomes bigger.

The fear of the unknown.

The fear of uncertainty.

As time ticked by. Wolfren made up his mind, with little courage he has, he walk through their living room, because their house was small he immediately reached his parent's room with only a few steps.

The door inside was opened, as gurgling sound, becoming louder and louder his footsteps softened, his feet trembling, looking through the creaked made by the opened door he saw a blanket dancing in the bed.

'What's that?!'

Wolfren widened his eyes as he immediately went back to his bed, trying to sleep hard his mind can't seem to erase the 'blanket ghost'.

Suddenly soft footsteps sounded outside his blanket, looking through his blanket's gap he saw his brother preparing to sleep.

"Where did you go?"

Wolfern softly asked.

Hayden, looks at wolfern his face extremely tired as he replied nonchalantly, "I poop in the bathroom just now."

But upon seeing his scared face, he console him with a kind smile he said, "No worries, ghost aren't true and I'm here What's there to fear?"

With his Big brother's words he finally fell asleep.

In his dream, A white world could be seen.

Standing from a far a young adult was waving into the air, his face blurred, wearing strange clothes on his body it makes him looks dignified.

as time passed by the world slowly distorted, when wolfren opened his eyes, a beam of light flashed through the window, illuminating the room with warm light.
