Entertainment:Playing Spiderman, Standing UpsideDown And Kissing Swift

Chapter 27: Spider-Man Is Popular On Hong Kong Island. Coming Soon In Mainland China?

Emma Stone left for Portland, Oregon, a few days ago and will stay there for at least three months.

At Xu Can's suggestion, she accepted the film audition for The Twilight Saga and officially took on the role of Isabella, the female lead.

In the audition, Emma Stone successfully outperformed Kristen Stewart. The producers of Twilight were also drawn to Emma Stone's box office appeal.

At just 18 years old, Emma Stone is a rising star in Hollywood. Youthful and beautiful with impressive acting skills, she is expected to bring significant value to Twilight.

To secure Emma Stone for the role, the producers even agreed to delete the kiss scene and adjust certain story elements.

In the movie, the vampire Edward struggles to suppress his urge to suck blood when close to humans. As a result, he controls himself and refrains from kissing the heroine. Instead, a cleverly shot scene at the end shows him turning Bella into a vampire.

This arrangement allowed Emma Stone to accept the role, but it also meant she had to temporarily part ways with Xu Can.

With her departure, Xu Can's apartment became quiet and empty once more. However, his schedule quickly filled up with the launch of John Wick.

Most of the film was shot at Sony Pictures Studios, with some scenes filmed in New York and Berlin.

When Xu Can arrived on set, ready to begin filming the first scene, a strange sensation overtook him—a spiritual light pierced his mind.

"My name is John Wick. I am a retired assassin.

I once worked for a powerful underworld organization, leaving countless bodies in my wake, and I became a legendary figure in the criminal world.

Then I met the love of my life, Helen.

After retiring, we lived happily for five years. Sadly, Helen passed away from illness. Before she died, she left me a dog named Daisy, hoping it would help me cope with my grief.

Daisy and I became inseparable.

One day, while refueling my car, a gangster tried to buy it. When I refused, he broke into my home, stole the car, and killed Daisy.

The crime boss behind the gangster knew who I was. Terrified, he tried to beg for mercy.

But there was no forgiveness. Everyone responsible—every single one—would pay.

No one would be spared."

The immersion was so intense that when Xu Can stepped out of the role, it felt as if he had lived John Wick's entire life.

Memories of John Wick flashed through his mind like a whirlwind, leaving behind lingering grief and rage. Xu Can took a deep breath, grounding himself.

"Xu, are you okay?"

David Leitch, the director of John Wick, approached with concern.

As an investor, screenwriter, and lead actor, Xu Can was the heart of the project. David often felt like a puppet under Xu Can's creative vision but didn't mind—he knew the film's success would elevate his own career.

"I'm fine. Let's keep going," Xu Can replied, picking up a prop pistol and preparing for the first scene.

"'John Wick,' scene 1, shot 1, take 1!"

"Action!"

Meanwhile, a Spider-Man craze was sweeping across Hong Kong.

Even though the movie had been out for over a week, theaters remained packed,.Spider-Man accounted for more than 70% of all screenings. Other films struggled to compete, relegated to small corner slots.

Once renowned as the "Hollywood of the East," Hong Kong's film industry began declining in 1995. By 2006, the local box office was dominated by Hollywood productions.

Jet Li's Fearless was the top-grossing Hong Kong movie of 2006, earning HK$30.2 million, and ranking fifth overall

Movies like Jackie Chan's Rob-B-Hood trailed even further. The top spots were taken by Pirates of the Caribbean 2, The Da Vinci Code, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Mission: Impossible 3, with the highest box office at HK$35 million.

Enter Xu Can's Spider-Man, shattering records with a HK$38 million opening week.

The media projected a final gross exceeding HK$50 million. As a Chinese actor, Xu Can became a source of pride for Hong Kong audiences, reigniting enthusiasm for movies.

Strolling through Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Central, one could see posters of Xu Can's Spider-Man everywhere.

Across the strait in Taiwan, the film earned over NT$120 million in its first week, outperforming Pirates of the Caribbean.

However, in Mainland China, Spider-Man faced challenges. Disputes with the China Film Group Corporation and stringent censorship delayed its release.

Despite this, the global buzz around Spider-Man was undeniable.

"Chinese actor Xu Can starring in the sci-fi action blockbuster Spider-Man has taken the world by storm, with a global box office exceeding US$900 million!"

"Xu Can is the most handsome Spider-Man ever. Will the movie be released in China?"

Amid domestic debates, Spider-Man was finally announced for release on January 28.

The news silenced skeptics and ignited excitement among Chinese movie fans.

The superhero, portrayed by a Chinese actor, was about to take the nation by storm.
