Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Two Methods
The crisp sound of high heels echoed in the spacious foyer.
"Madam."
Mira vaguely heard the maids addressing the elegantly dressed woman with scarlet hair in black attire.
"Madam..."
Mira blinked. If Irene was addressed as Madam, then what was Selene?
She remembered that the maids referred to Selene as "Lady Selene."
Glancing at Selene nestled in Aegon's arms, and then at Irene, who was approaching with a staff adorned with deer antlers, Mira's thoughts began to swirl. Irene, having only taken one look at Mira, understood why Aegon wanted her.
Irene saw a resemblance between Mira and her younger self—a slender body shouldering many burdens.
Beauty cannot be ranked; each has its unique charm. Misaki was alluring, Kagura exuded heroism, but Mira's gentle resilience was rare. The slight urgency and lost-deer-in-the-woods look added to her allure.
In the astonished gaze of Mira and Lisanna, Irene sat on the other side of Aegon. Despite no intimate actions, it was clear to them that Irene and Aegon were also a pair.
Irene, silently observing the cautious young girl, smiled warmly, "Don't be afraid. We don't bite. Regarding your hand, I have two solutions."
"Try transforming that demon arm."
Aegon had temporarily suppressed it with dragon power, so Mira's arm looked normal now.
"Don't worry. I'm aware of your arm."
After some psychological preparation, Mira closed her eyes and transformed her right hand back into the demon arm.
Selene nodded, "Good talent."
For someone who couldn't initially handle takeover magic, Mira managed a partial reception quickly. Selene attributed this to Mira's innate talent.
Irene smiled and, lifting her right hand, transformed it into a scarlet dragon claw, showing it to Mira:
"There was a time I felt lost, thinking I was a monster."
As Mira was about to speak, Irene shook her head, "No, we are not the same. You have a demon's claw; I have a dragon's claw."
Seeing Mira's crestfallen expression, Irene added, "But both are merely magic, belonging to takeover magic and dragon slayer magic."
Mira increasingly felt that Aegon and Irene were a perfect match, their words always leaving one breathless.
Seeing Mira's expression fluctuate, Irene chuckled softly, "I understand your feelings right now. I won't tease you anymore."
Irene gracefully held up two fingers:
"The first method is to train in takeover magic until you can control it freely. How long this takes depends on your talent."
"The second method is for me to use a separation enchantment to extract the demon's soul from within you. However, this will prevent you from using takeover magic."
"The choice is yours. Take your time."
"May I ask a question?"
"Of course."
"You mentioned you had such a period. How did you overcome it?"
Without hesitation, Irene looked at Aegon beside her, "Because of him."
Upon hearing this, Mira bit her lip lightly.
"I personally recommend the first method."
Selene, who had been silent, spoke gently, explaining, "This is a magical world. Though only a tenth of people can use magic, the ability to protect oneself makes a huge difference, especially for a beautiful girl like you."
Mira's brown-blue eyes met Aegon's gaze, now devoid of previous fear and confusion. She stood up and bowed deeply:
"I've made my decision! Please teach me takeover magic!"
Seeing Irene transform her hand into a dragon claw, and noticing Aegon, Selene, and the maids behind them showing no reaction, Mira realized one thing: she wasn't a monster; it was just magic.
Selene smiled faintly, "A wise decision."
She appreciated Mira's decisiveness.
Irene added, "I'll have the books on reception magic brought to you shortly. You'll stay on the third room on the left on the second floor. Heine, show them to their room."
"Follow me."
After taking a deep breath, Mira followed Heine, hurrying Lisanna along.
Once Mira's back disappeared up the stairs, Irene spoke, "Now that we've found her, we should proceed to the next step."
"Next step?"
He wasn't aware that Irene and Selene had further plans.
Selene raised an eyebrow, "The eastern continent, Icarus. I want to see the customs different from Ishgar and Giltena."
The eastern continent, Icarus, like Ishgar, was an old name. Now, it was a unified empire—Summer.
The Summer Empire was quite open, frequently engaging in trade and cultural exchanges with Ishgar, and sometimes even commissioning tasks.
Last time, while drinking at the Fairy Tail tavern, Gildarts mentioned having completed a mission on the eastern continent and brought back a painting.
...
"This is your room. To your right is Lady Selene's room, and the second room is Lord Aegon's."
Even without Heine's explanation, Mira had noticed, sneaking a glance as they passed.
Although called a room, it was a suite, complete with a dressing room, and even two toilets.
The room's size far exceeded what Mira and Lisanna had ever known, their house in Kikyo Village not even comparable.
Lisanna, mouth slightly agape, observed the room, "Is this really our room?"
Heine patiently explained, "Except for four rooms, the other twelve are like this, just different floors. Rest assured and stay."
"Thank you."
"No need to be polite." Heine nodded slightly. Knowing Mira was personally chosen by Aegon, she didn't dare show any airs.
Mera also arrived in Mira's room, followed by two maids each carrying a stack of books, "You can call me Mera. These are all the books on reception magic. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me."
Mira was slightly surprised, "So many!"
She glanced at the two stacks, totaling nine books.
"If it seems too much, you can start with the top one, a summary. It won't make much difference."
Mira realized she had been worrying unnecessarily. While pondering how to face Aegon, he informed her:
"We're heading to the eastern continent. I hope by the time I return, you've mastered takeover magic."
This left her feeling a bit lost and anxious. She muttered,
"So I really am just a butler…"
