CHAPTER 64: SURVIVE V
When Anita devoured the greater demon, she acquired all the energy in his mana core including the core that dissolved into more energy, together with his law, innate talent, and techniques.
At her behest, the ground below her was suddenly filled with water. The water encompassed ten meters, and as if being held in place by a barrier, they didn’t flow out.
Arlo and Anita were located at the back of the domain.
Not before long, several whooshing sounds echoed out before several shadows pounced into the domain.
The shadows didn’t get to move for long though, as several monsters rose from the water on the ground.
Immediately, a battle ensued.
The sea monsters destroyed the lesser demons that dared to enter their domain, however even after being dealt several fatal attacks, the lesser demons didn’t fall.
At this point, the lesser demons struggling in the domain already numbered more than thirty, and with every second, it kept increasing.
Anita started to panic after seeing the lesser demons draw closer to them.
She jumped back on Arlo’s head and whispered softly, “You mustn’t die.”
She didn’t treat Arlo as just a master, if Arlo wanted, he could make her do things against her will. Yet he never did such things, even going as far as to tell her to call him by name.
Since that point, their relationship started changing subtly from master and summon, however, neither of them realized it.
She jumped back to her previous position and after steeling her resolve, she commanded, “Come out.”
A massive octopus appeared behind her and after commanding it to protect Arlo, she joined the battle.
The octopus did as instructed and surrounded Arlo with its massive tentacles.
After summoning the octopus, Anita found out that all the energy she had obtained was now reduced to less than ten percent.
She was now doubting if she could hold out for a minute.
Joining the fray, Anita launched dark spear after spear as sea monsters fought the now over fifty lesser demons.
The water on the ground was now dyed with blood, but contrary to what one would expect, only four corpses of lesser demons littered the ground.
The lesser demons bled and bled but still regenerated.
The sea monsters also didn’t lose, as after they were destroyed, they also respawned from the water below.
Anita was happy to find out that, after the domain was laid, she didn’t need to supply it with energy.
The battle between both parties became one of attrition but it was clear that the sea monsters were on the losing side, as they kept losing ground as lesser demons leaped into the domain.
The feeling of anxiousness within Anita reached an untold high, and she doubted if she could hold out for even thirty seconds more.
From the time the battle began, it had only been twenty seconds.
…..
Meanwhile, Old Bro for the first time since Arlo was born, neglected his surroundings and invaded Arlo’s mind.
In a seemingly empty space filled with darkness, a small light flickered silently.
Besides this flickering light sat a small boy. He hugged his knees and buried his head within them.
Suddenly…
*Whoosh!*
An old man materialized before the small boy.
<< Brat! What the hell are you doing? >>
The small boy raised his buried head to see an old man with white hair falling behind him.
The old man was standing two meters tall, and his face was filled with power and authority.
What drew his attention most was the long white beards that flowed down his chest, and even with the absence of wind, they still waved.
‘Old bro?’
The small boy asked, not certain.
<< I asked you what you are doing. >>
His silence to the previous question was all the answer the small boy needed.
Burying his head back into his knees, he whispered quietly, ‘I am afraid.’
The angry frown on Old Bro’s face slowly smoothed out before he let out a quiet sigh.
Looking at the despondent Arlo, he started regretting his decision.
What am I making a little Kid do?
It was because of the agreement between him and Arthur that Arthur made such a foolish move of acting as if they were dead before sending their only child away.
As the feeling of regret and guilt started growing, his memories with his only wielder flashed before him.
No! I did the right thing.
It is all for his own sake. He reaffirmed within himself.
<< Brat! Get up! You are inches away from death outside. >>
However, Arlo didn’t respond to him, nor did he make any movement.
After a short while, he spoke once more, << What about your parents? >>
Arlo’s body trembled slightly. Raising his head, the light of intelligence flashed within his eyes before he spoke:
‘I have thought about it several times. The situation surrounding my parent’s half-death state seems…weird.’
He looked at Old Bro intensely before he continued, ‘That day, while several fights were going on, I didn’t see anybody die. Not to say, the way you indirectly praise my dad gives me the feeling that he should be far more powerful than he portrayed, which means he should be more than capable of handling the situation.’
Sigh!
With a wry smile, Old bro spoke, << You are too smart for your own good. >>
After making his decision, his eyes became firm.
…..
Outside, the battle was already reaching an end.
There were now over a hundred lesser demons in the domain and the number was still increasing.
At this point, Anita was also hiding behind the Octopus with an unconscious Arlo.
Tens of lesser demons were attacking the Octopus's body, but it always regenerated before they could even launch an attack at the same spot.
The sea monsters were still trying to fight, but against the other party that surpassed them with a ratio of five to one, their effect was negligible.
Anita watched the lesser demons that surrounded her from all sides, and with a shaky voice, she pleaded, “Ar-Arlo, you need to wake up. I can’t hold out any longer.”
It was now fifty seconds into the battle and Anita was already reaching her limit.
“Roar!”
Sure enough, after another five seconds, and under the barrage of tens of lesser demons, the octopus released an unwilling roar before exploding into countless water droplets.
As tens of lesser demons pounced toward them, Anita snuggled affectionately to the side of Arlo’s face.
With a flash of dark-red light, all the pouncing lesser demons were sent flying before a deep animalistic roar resounded.
“ROOOOOOOAAAAAR!”
Looking at the tall monster standing in front of them, Anita whispered:
“Arianne?”
