“Statistically, you did quite poorly,” The Journal summed up my performance, “But I am not blind. You are formidable, but you are not invincible. Well fought, Demon Child.”

I don’t know whether to be upset or relieved that the journal said those words, because either way, our agreement needs to be upheld.

I did not live up to the expectations he set and so my reward will be lacking. But that’s alright, It could be worse. I have no doubt complete failure would result in punishment.

“As per our contract, I can answer your question.” The Journal began to hum. “Value.” he  said simply. “In return for the information that I possess and that I can gather, an item of equal value must be given to me.”

I waited in silence as I gathered the chips into the trays the dealer provided me.

 I was waiting for nothing.

That…

Does not help me at all!

You useless journal!

“Fucking hell.” I grumbled, setting the tray together to carry over to the money exchange.

“Allow me to elaborate.” I rolled my eyes at his words. I wish this guy would elaborate without having me asking.

“If you were to ask me what a mysterious item would be, you would have to sacrifice the item to me in exchange for the answer.”

I hurried over to the cash exchange to put down the chips I had acquired for the tellers to tally. The woman at the desk looked surprised at the amount and told me something I wasn’t paying attention to.

All I did in response was smile and wink. The woman blushed and bowed her head meekly, taking the chips.

“The Information acquired will forever be kept for reference.”

Wait a minute…

Does that mean that this thing is an appraisal machine?

Is this thing google? This thing is like a wiki!

“I can work with this.” I grinned.

So in short, the time and energy I used to fulfill his quest was of equal and proportionate to the value of the answer I was looking for.

However that begs the question, what else would he have me do in the future? I doubt that it would be as simple as winning a few hands at a gambling house.

I looked at my own fists and clenched them. I needed to get stronger.

Quickly.

“T-Thank you for your patronage! As per the house rules, a fee has been charged.” The desk woman told me. “Your balance is thirty-one gold coins and fifty silver coins.”

Ten percent, huh? I guess I shouldn’t be complaining too much. Thirty-one gold coins was too much money. How much did I start with again?

I don’t remember.

Anywho, I think it's time that I head back–

Crash!

“Oh my god!” The woman gasped, “Are you okay?”

I blinked. My vision was thrown violently downwards. I was just looking at the woman behind the desk, so how did I get to the floor?

Why was I on the floor?

Then, Suddenly I felt it.

A searing pain at the back of my head began to fester. Strangely enough, I didn’t scream in pain, despite the sensation being that of salt being rubbed deeply inside my skin.

It wasn't salt, but glass.

Someone just threw a glass at me.

“You…” I turned my head to the table I had left, located in the center of the room. “You can throw, I’ll give you that.”

Charlie stood as straight as he could, wobbling with his drunkenness. He reached for another glass on the table and downed the contents in one gulp. He then pointed the exit with the same hand, glass still in his grasp and hiccuped.

“Outside…” He pointed at me, “and me… right now!”

His bold deceleration was great enough to silence the bustling building. Although it died down a while ago, since it's nearly dawn, it was loud nonetheless.

It was genuinely impressive.

But I was starting to get nervous.

Who is this guy and what has he done with Charlie? There's no way that's the same guy.

“Mind if you keep that money safe for me, sweetie?” I spoke to the woman behind me, “I need to take care of something.”

“O-O-Of course!” She shrieked at the sight of blood dripping down my nape, ”Will you open an account? W-What's the name?”

“Hyun, Hyun will do just fine.”

“How goes the brawl?” The overseer asked curiously. He grunted as he thrusted his hips forward. The large man looked down at the person he was speaking to, a woman dressed in a fine suit.

She was on her knees, forehead buried into the man’s groin, her curves swaying as she moved.. She pushed herself away from the man, his reproductive organ leaving her mouth, and with a soft pop, the woman coughed to regain composure.

“Nothing yet my Lord,” An attendant answered simply, undisturbed by the act. It was commonplace. “The adventurer must’ve struck a curse somewhere. All his winnings were taken away by an audacious new-comer.”

“I see.” The Lord hummed, taking the woman’s head and bringing it down to himself. She continued her service without saying another word unless she was asked. “Shame, we even helped him.”

The thrusting quickly increased in speed, the woman being notified of the end by the twitching inside. As practiced, the two disconnected, allowing the man to unload onto her features instead of her mouth.

“Satisfying as always,” He moaned with a deep voice, falling back down onto his lounge chair.

“And you are as virile as ever, my Lord.” The secretary got up from the ground, and straightened her smeared glasses, leaving the substance for his satisfaction.

The Lord looked at her with a grin, revealing a golden tooth as he stroked the little stubble that had grown overnight. He looked down at the emptying casino, his patrons clogging the windows, catching how money was being passed, both for a better view and for profit.

“So what are the odds of winning?”

“Current bets are ten to one, favoring the adventurer.” The secretary leaned over the balcony to gaze at the collected money at one of the tables. It was surrounded by four of their staff, a man counting the money while also recording the amount. “However the duel ends, it was a smart plan, my Lord.”

“Well shame, Adventurer Ben is an established man with quite a reputation.” The Lord grinned, “But the Arachnid Nest was all it took to bend him. After all, what is a man without his people? Even a powerful lion can be killed by three hunting dogs if separated from his pride.”

“As you say, Sir.” The woman nodded again.

“Then we’ll proceed as planned. When Ben kills the newcomer, put him aside and give him a regeneration potion. I have no doubt the newbie would rough him up a bit, and then we will blackmail him.” The large man spread his legs at her, revealing a hard on.  “A man with a stainless reputation shouldn’t be philandering in a red light district, gambling and drowning his own weakness with booze.”

The secretary bowed and approached her superior, leaving the place where she once stood without her underwear. She turned around and he entered her from behind. His hands were quick to find her waist and hers his thighs for support.

With a faint clap of their flesh colliding, she added more to his statement.  “If not for that, then we’ll spread word about his tiny dick and his failure in getting it up.”

“Good girl.” The man laughed, “We men are particular about that sort of subject, so good catch.”

“Demon child! Get your head into the duel!”

I rolled backwards onto the ground, falling awkwardly as I was letting the muddy earth smear my clothes.with the intent of creating less friction. A metal blade narrowly missed my chin and nose as I did.

With a flourish, the blade glimmered even in the terrible visibility of the early light. It was as if someone began throwing buckets of water from the heavens because a great downpour fell over night.

I hadn’t even noticed the change in weather while I was inside the gambling house. Still, even with the deafening thuds of heavy droplets, I could hear the journal continuously screaming in my head.

“He has a fucking sword!” I pointed out.

“The more this fight is drawn out, the more disadvantageous it is for you!”

“Y-You think I don’t know–” I jumped from the ground, the gambler I nicknamed ‘Charlie’ stabbing where my heart once was. In the movement, I narrowly avoided him striking my crotch and its contents. “That!”

I threw a great handful of mud mixed with gravel at him, but to my shock, he cut up the Newtonian attack as if it were a solid with his sword.

Shing!

In a swift, flourishing and admittedly impressive recovery, my attack was cleaved into perfect halves, batted away to his sides without much contest.

“Is throwing– Hick! –mud, all you can –Hick!- do?”

“Hey cheap shot!” I yelled, greatly annoyed at him, “You asked for a fight by throwing a cup and jumping me with a weapon!? You call yourself a man!?!”

“You have no right to lecture him,” the Journal said unceremoniously, “If presented with the opportunity, you would do way much worse.”

To make my growing headache even worse, the guards at the door began to cheer. I don’t think they were rooting for me, and even if they were, why would they? Even the Journal wasn't helping.

“What the hell are you doing!? Fight back!!”  They were heckling, not cheering!

“Oh shut the hell up.” I frowned even more, cursing at them even if they couldn’t hear me. I was cold. I was tired. I was getting really, really annoyed. “I have been dodging this fucker for the past thirty-minutes!”

Fuck, I needed to get out of here and fast. I need to create an opening.

I looked at my left arm for a brief second. It was half-way to being cut off in two areas, on my forearm and upper arm. If I didn’t get out of here soon, then I’d lose not just my arm, but my life as well!

“I shouldn’t have raised a guard to block his slash.”

“And do what? Perish?” The Journal scoffed, “For a determined boy, you sure are wimpy and whiny. What is an arm but a cheap price for victory? Soldier on, my boy!”

“You’re not fuckin’ helping!”

If I knew I was going to die tonight, I should’ve accepted those two ladies' offer!

At least I wouldn't die as a virgin!
