Chapter 40: Chapter 40 Meet The Bundesliga Team! Bundesliga's Only Hope!
"How do you feel about Kaiserslautern copying Karlsruher SC?" one player asked.
"Damn, these bastards. What's the point of parking the bus?" another grumbled.
The third round of the German Cup had reignited excitement, with just one step away from the quarter-finals. Meeting a Bundesliga team meant double the broadcast share! However, most of the Bundesliga teams' opponents had suffered heavy defeats. Sandhausen was swept 4:1 by Frankfurt and was eliminated early. Ingolstadt was beaten 3:0 by Wolfsburg.
The winner of Union Berlin vs. Kaiserslautern would be the only remaining team from the second division. Both sides were desperate to break into the quarter-finals. Union Berlin continued to press hard, leveraging Su Luo's offensive power to launch attacks. After their last failure, Kaiserslautern simply parked the bus, hoping to drag the game into a penalty shootout.
After 30 minutes of a fruitless first half for Union Berlin, only Su Luo managed two long shots from outside the penalty area, but they posed no real threat. Additionally, Kaiserslautern's rough play and the referee's inconsistent decisions frustrated both teams, leading to rising tempers. Silvio, repeatedly fouled while breaking through on the wing, couldn't penetrate the defense. Angrily, he cursed and complained on the pitch.
Su Luo kept testing but hadn't found a good opportunity yet. This time, he had learned not to pursue quick goals impatiently. He conserved his precious possession time, ready to use it when it counted most. Even though Su Luo was knocked down many times, he kept calm, understanding that arguing with opponents and referees was pointless. Real damage could only be done if there was a goal threat.
Su Luo adopted Ronaldinho's 2002 playstyle, like an old hunter, lurking between defenders and midfielders, waiting for his chance. Finally, in the 54th minute of the second half, his opportunity came. Union Berlin attacked from the wing, and Silvio sent in a cross. High center Trod attempted a header but was double-teamed and failed to make contact. The football was pushed out of the penalty area by a defender.
As Kaiserslautern midfielder Markus Karl moved to contest the second ball, Su Luo saw his moment.
"Be careful!" a defender shouted too late.
While charging, Su Luo activated his possession skill, feeling the surge of power.
"I will do everything in my power to make you come back! Haaland mode, transform!" he thought, full of determination.
In an instant, Su Luo's explosive power surged. He shouldered Markus Karl aside without using his hands, so there was no foul. The referee signaled for play to continue despite complaints from the defenders. Kaiserslautern's defense was thrown off balance.
Three defenders converged on Su Luo, trying to bring him down. But Su Luo, like a tank, powered through them. He suddenly stopped in front of the two central defenders and executed a brilliant Elastico move, shaking off all three opponents.
"Nice shot!" commentator Simon nearly stood up in excitement.
Su Luo broke into the penalty area and, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, calmly nutmegged him, sending the ball into the net.
"Goal! Fantastic goal!" Simon exclaimed. "Su Luo's run, from the steal to beating four players, was a work of art! The perfect combination of speed, strength, and skill!"
"Kaiserslautern's defense, which could trouble even Bayern, was broken by Su Luo! Union Berlin leads 1-0!"
"Su Luo has scored in nine consecutive games; he's on fire!"
"Ha ha ha..." Simon chuckled. "Compared to Su Luo's amazing goal, his celebration is quite boring."
Su Luo, excited by the goal, had forgotten his planned celebration. At Kaiserslautern's home ground, far from the visiting fans, he stood still, raising his hands and symbolically waving his fists. Teammates rushed to high-five and hug him.
Watching the game on TV, Anya wrinkled her nose in dissatisfaction. "Hmph, big brother is obviously very cute. This commentator is talking nonsense."
Her mother, Aunt Hans, pointed at the TV. "Look, your dad is on TV, smiling like a 200-pound fool."
In the broadcast, the desperation of the home team's fans contrasted sharply with the visiting fans' excitement, who sang and shouted the names of their heroes.
"Oriental boy, invincible!"
"Oriental boy, brave and invincible!"
"He's the cannon of the Iron Alliance!"
"He is the Lord of the Iron Alliance!"
Su Luo's name "罗" sounded like "Lord" in German and English. After half a season, he had earned a new nickname among the fans: Lord! King of the Iron League!
Although Su Luo had only joined the team for less than half a season, being called the king of Union Berlin showed how much the fans loved him. If he could lead Union Berlin to promotion to the Bundesliga, he would truly deserve the title.
Thanks to Su Luo's goal, Union Berlin was in full swing and scored another in the second half. Su Luo drew the defense's attention in the penalty area, allowing Trod to score unmarked with a header. Union Berlin defeated Kaiserslautern 2:0 and advanced to the top 8 of the German Cup.
In their next game, they would definitely face a Bundesliga team!
