The opening fell into silence once again, each individual lost in their thoughts. Sasuke was still processing the revelations about his mother's abilities, a sense of awe and admiration filling him. Mikoto was contemplating the extent of her powers and the potential they held, a mixture of anxiety and determination swirling within her. And Kai, always the strategist, was considering their next steps, the possibilities that lay before them.
Then remembering something, Kai looked at Mikoto. The Purple Card embedded in his body was a unique entity that allowed him to copy and apply all sorts of Jutsu with a glance. However, he'd never attempted to do so with the Mangekyō Sharingan due to their rarity. But now, he had a prime opportunity to test it. He locked his gaze onto Mikoto.
"Mikoto," he began, his voice steady, "would you be willing to demonstrate your abilities?"
Mikoto met his gaze, the calm intensity in his eyes making her pause. She had not expected this request, but she understood its importance. Kai was asking for knowledge, not out of idle curiosity, but out of a strategic need. Despite the unease stirring within her, she nodded.
"Alright," she replied, her voice soft but firm.
Kai focused his gaze on Mikoto's eyes as she activated her Sharingan. The unique pattern of her Mangekyō Sharingan spun into view, the intricate design a stark contrast against the red background. As Mikoto's chakra began to move and fluctuate, he noticed the unique signature that emanated from her eyes. It was distinctly different from any other form of chakra he'd witnessed before, a pulsating rhythm that seemed to resonate with the Mangekyō.
In that moment, Mikoto demonstrated her genjutsu, subtly altering the perception of reality around them. The room seemed to shift, its dimensions distorting, objects seeming out of place, yet nothing had physically changed. Kai was astutely aware of the illusion, his senses allowing him to discern the difference between reality and illusion. Yet, he had to admit, the seamless integration of the genjutsu was impressive.
Kai analyzed the flow of Mikoto's chakra, his gaze unblinking as he followed the intricate dance of energy. His Purple Card was designed to analyze and replicate jutsu, but the Mangekyō Sharingan was not a typical jutsu. It was a unique dojutsu, borne of the Uchiha's bloodline limit. While he could see how chakra was manipulated within the Sharingan, copying it was not as simple. The Purple Card buzzed within him, its usual swift and certain replication process stuttering in the face of the unfamiliar technique.
However, Kai was not deterred. Instead, he continued observing, his mind processing the data at an accelerated rate. Each shift in chakra, every flicker in Mikoto's Sharingan was noted, stored within his vast mental database. His eyes were alight with curiosity and a spark of excitement – the thrill of facing a challenge.
Mikoto then shifted to her second ability. She picked up a kunai from the table beside her, holding it between her fingers. With a steady breath, she activated her other eye, and the kunai's density began to change. It became heavier, its weight pulling it down and forcing her to grip it harder. Moments later, it became lighter, nearly weightless, as if it was a mere illusion.
Kai watched the demonstration, his eyes widening marginally as he observed the kunai's changes. Once again, he attempted to replicate the ability using his Purple Card, but the intricacies of the Sharingan's chakra manipulation eluded him. Yet, he remained focused, capturing every nuance of the process.
As Mikoto ended her demonstration, her eyes flickered back to their normal state, the unique Mangekyō design fading away. She locked her gaze with Kai, a soft sigh escaping her lips. "That's all I can show you," she said, her voice laced with fatigue. Demonstrating her abilities had taken a toll on her eyes.
"Pain?" Kai's question cut through the silence, his gaze sharply focused on Mikoto. He noticed the fleeting shadow of discomfort that crossed her face, the strain in her eyes that followed her demonstration. This was an effect he had often heard of but hadn't seen in person – the backlash of using the Mangekyō Sharingan.
Mikoto simply nodded, not trusting herself to speak just yet. Her fingers gently rubbed at her temples, trying to massage away the dull throbbing that was beginning to form behind her eyes. It was a side effect she had come to expect, yet it never made it any less unpleasant.
"I see." Kai responded, his mind buzzing with information. The pain was a consequence of using the Sharingan's abilities, a physiological toll that came with manipulating chakra in such an intricate manner. It was a puzzle piece that fell into place in his understanding of the Mangekyō Sharingan. He recalled the rumors he had heard in his travels, the whispered tales of Uchiha clan members who had gone blind from overuse of these powers.
It was then that realization dawned on him. The Mangekyō Sharingan did not bestow magical abilities upon activation. Instead, it focused the unique chakra, or bloodline limit, of the user to their eyes and shaped that chakra into extraordinary powers.
What he needed then was not necessarily the Sharingan but a similar focus – a conduit to shape and channel his chakra. His mind began to whirl, possibilities and theories spiraling out in a frantic dance. He could feel the answer lurking at the edge of his consciousness, a tantalizing puzzle waiting to be solved.
Mikoto watched Kai, her eyes gradually regaining their usual calm. She was intrigued by the stoic shinobi's intense focus, the cogs of his mind visibly whirling behind his unwavering gaze. There was a ferocity to his determination, a single-minded dedication that was both intimidating and oddly reassuring.
"What are you thinking?" she asked, her voice steadier now.
Kai took a moment before responding, his gaze still lost in contemplation. "I'm considering the essence of the Mangekyō Sharingan. How it channels the Uchiha's unique chakra into the eyes, and how it molds that chakra into distinct abilities. It's not just about copying the technique, it's about understanding its nature."
Mikoto nodded in understanding. It was a rare thing for someone outside the Uchiha clan to comprehend the intricacies of their dojutsu. Even within the clan, not everyone fully grasped the nature of their bloodline limit. Yet here was Kai, a shinobi of no known lineage, delving into its very core.
