Gardenia’s Heart

The violet blade sliced through the air in a deadly dance, leaving only destruction and blood in its wake.

“That's 15!”

The poor creatures being annihilated at such a terrifying rate had curved black wings on their backs. They had no eyes, relying on their large, long ears to navigate. A generous layer of white fur surrounded their necks, contrasting with their dark gray skin. Their two paws had sharp claws, matching the size of the fangs in their large mouths. The only way to describe them was as bat-like monsters, now retreating desperately while being pursued by the girls.

When the last bat in the room they had entered was killed, both looked around the walls for something but soon sighed in disappointment.

“Another failure?”

(Let’s move to the next room. I guarantee I’ll pass you!) The energetic voice conveyed her determination.

“You’re still far from being faster than me, my beloved Nia,” Lily teased back.

As they explored, the girls decided to compete over who could kill more monsters. Of course, they were just having fun with the banter and not actually arguing.

Before moving to the next room, Lily walked over to the dead bats and carefully removed their fangs. The manual she received listed which parts of the monsters were valuable and should be taken back to be sold.

“Absorbing the extra bats won’t really give us wings?” Lily sighed as she thought about the possibility of flying freely through the skies.

Both sighed and moved on to the next room.

Although they had been exploring for a few hours, no sign of the staircase leading to the lower floor had appeared. The labyrinth was starting to live up to its name as the possibility of not finding its way out crossed Lily's mind.

(Don’t worry about that. Although the terrain changes, the entrance remains unchanged. As long as we’re not too far, I can create a portal to take us back to the entrance.)

“Nia is so amazing!”

The girl felt a pang of shame for momentarily forgetting how reliable her beloved was. She wished she could spend more time praising her, but a new wave of monsters was approaching.

“!?” She cried out in surprise as she saw the translucent purple tentacles joyfully tossing the bodies of the defeated monsters around.

“That’s new. I thought you could only extend the tentacles through my arms,” Lily remarked, observing the four tentacle-like tails that had emerged from the bottom of her spine, piercing through a triangular space formed in her black cloak.

Two of the tentacles approached Lily's face and began to caress her cheeks, the girl leaned slightly and kissed the purple tentacle. 

(What are you doing!?) Nia's voice trembled visibly, the tentacle blushing a red color matching Lily's cheeks.
