Chapter 47: Annoying creatures
Those who used them brought out their weapons except for, Litha, who was holding their shield up. 'How are we even going to fight this thing when we can't release the shield?'
The barrier was struck hard at multiple directions and the mana shield sparked, throwing energy up in the air. "What are we supposed to do?" Tim asked as he raised his bullet stones towards one of the directions.
Temur was trying his best to remain calm. "We just have to hope that whatever is out there isn't strong enough to break this shield, we will be safe here."
"But we will fail the trial." Litha's hand was raised, supplying mana to the shield.
"We get to keep our life."
Jael agreed with Temur. It seems the spirit wanted to keep them out of getting the treasure of Adonijah by setting an unrealistic trial. How can they navigate where all their senses were robbed? What type of trial is that?
The unknown attacks kept hitting the shield again and again, each harder than before. One section of the shield cracked, and Litha gritted her teeth. "I'll use all my power in th....!!"
'Boom!' Something slammed into the shield, far more powerful than what had been hitting it since, and it broke apart under that single hit. Jael saw Litha'show showed surprise and shock before darkness swallowed them whole.
Jael leaped forward, his hands stretched, reaching out blindly, trying to hold one from the team, but his hand touched nothing but darkness that stretches, 'wasn't the team here just seconds ago? I should be able to touch even one of them! What is happening!'
He shivered. 'The darkness is messing with distance too? Or maybe what killed that guy? Is it back?'
He began to walk faster in the dark then he suddenly stumbled; he regained his balance and repositioned his legs, and, 'Aghhhh!!' He shouted as what appeared to be sharp metals pierced his right leg below the ankle through his boots and held tightly like the mouth of a beast.
"Shit! Shit!" He bent down and traced his leg with trembling fingers; his hand touched his ankle, and he hissed as his hand brushed his wound. "A trap? How is there a metal trap used for catching animals here!"
He used his two hands and gripped the metal claps of the trap, and then he pried it open. He bit his shoulder as he strained from the pain, but he removed his leg and limped away from the place.
Blood gushed out of his legs, soaking into his boots and make the whole thing uncomfortable. Like walking in a barefoot in a mud but with pain. Quickly he brought out a potion and drink, and it burned down his throat like cheap alcohol.
'Traps! Can monsters use traps? I don't know but I don't know what the fuck is going on either! What I do know is that someone or something set that trap' he snared and his heart quickened.
"Hello!" He called but he couldn't even hear his voice.
Just then something sharp past passed him, slicing a thin long line in his thighs. He yelped and transformed his hand, sweeping it forward like a broom but he hit nothing. Suddenly, something slammed him from behind and a thin object pierced his shoulder blades.
"Huh!" He grunted in pain and removed it, getting the feel with his hand. It was a small blunted metal rod. "Okay, okay....this is getting out of hand." He brought another potion out to drink and something broke it, shattering the glass.
Jael growled and began to cut around himself with his sword, hoping to keep whatever was after him away. Just then, something settled on his back, a solid weight that threw him forward then hands like tree limbs followed, warping around him, thick legs that held tight to his waist.
"The fuck!" He jolted.
He immediately got the image of the monster, it was a green goblin, the size of a six-year-old, with cruel eyes and a mouth full of fangs.
"Hehehehehehehehe." The goblin giggled, breathing down his neck with the breath of spoilt meat, and then it bit him on the shoulder, ripping out a chunk of flesh before it pushed him and jumped away.
Jael gasped and shuddered. He understood then. "This...they are hunting me! The goblins are hunting me slowly and enjoying my pain....!!"
He turned blindly, waving his sword hand this way and that but because he couldn't see, he hit nothing. He growled in frustration. "Come on!" Thankfully, the wounds on his body were quickly healing as he drank another potion.
He tilted his head to see if his senses would catch a anything but what he got was a slap to the face that made his eyes watered. 'That's it! I have to do something before they get bored and kill me. Let me think about this logically.' Jael began to jump around, doing a hopping dance to not stay in one place.
Suddenly he froze as something occurred to him. 'I am very stupid. Why don't I think of this?' Jael always put all of Hermit into things like strength and speed. What if he added all of Hermit into his sensing power?
Jael stopped moving entirely and his transformed hand returned to normal. And then he drew on his connection with Hermit and then added all of his monster's power into one single thing. His senses.
"Ah!' He screamed as his head exploded with different smells and sounds. He heard the small taps the goblins make as they ran around, cutting flesh with sharp knives and giggling.
He heard Litha's curse and Temur's grunt as he was cut deeply by a goblin's knife. They are still in the room but the darkness made the space bigger than it should be.
Above all, Jael saw the faint green outline of the goblins and his teammates too. He removed his sword, a real steel this time.
A goblin walked towards him slowly, taking its time as it sniffed and licked blood on its knife. 'Kekekekekekeke.' The goblin stood in front of Jael and smirked, then it reached out with its knife and brought it close to his face for a quick slash.
But that was exactly what Jael had been waiting for and he caught the startled goblin's hand, drawing it close. "Hello." He smiled.
