Chapter 428: Welcome To Uventus III
Chapter 428: Welcome To Uventus III
“You know… I only just realized that I never asked you if you knew Italian,” Adele said to Jason as they got into the car that would take them to Continassa which was the main training ground for Uventus’ first team.
“Well, now you know and you can remember to ask me the next time I’m making a transfer to a club in a new country,” Jason smirked in response and took his sports bag off his shoulder before making himself comfortable in the backseat.
Adele watched him, still surprised that Jason knew how to speak both French and Italian apart from the English, Portuguese, and German that she already knew of.
“… Hey…” Adele poked his thigh with a finger causing Jason to open one eye and glance in her direction.
“What?” he asked.
“I need you to be completely honest with me now,” Adele began.
“O… kay,” Jason drawled, opening his other eye as he tilted his head.
“You don’t happen to be a secret CIA agent who dropped out of the academy because you had more talent for football than espionage?” Adele asked in a completely serious tone.
“…” Jason stared straight at her for a few seconds, his brain processing what he just heard and the only response that he could come up with was,“Pffffffttttttt, hahahahahaha,” he burst out laughing.
“What the hell are you on about? Hahahahaha,”
“Me? A CIA agent, and not even a successful one, but a dropout?”
“Come on now, hahahahaha,” Jason managed to get out mid-laughter.
“I’m not the one that knows five languages, can use guns, knows martial arts, and is smarter than everyone else his age… kind of,” Adele retorted, her face turning red from being laughed at.
“Eight actually,” Jason said, rubbing the tears caused by laughter away from his eyes.
“What?” Adele asked confused.
“I know eight languages… English, Portuguese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, and Yoruba,” Jason reiterated.
“… Now you’re just bragging,” Adele managed to say after a pause to unfreeze her brain.
“Yes I am, also, I am smarter than everyone else my age…” Jason said with a laugh.
“… Kind of,” he added after some thought.
“Whatever, for now, focus on your football skills, you’ll need to impress your manager for the next six months in the next two days,” Adele muttered and pulled out her tab.
“Yeah, about that, when is Uventus’s next match?” Jason asked Adele.
“Uh… let me check,” Adele muttered and started manipulating her tab to pull out Uventus’s match schedule.
“It seems like they have a match on the 17th… that’s two days from now,” Adele told Jason.
“Any chance the manager would let me in that match?” Jason asked, the question seemingly directed to Adele, but he wasn’t expecting an answer.
“I don’t know, it will depend on your readiness and how well you adjust to the play style here, though there is a chance the manager might let you get some minutes out there so you can get a feel of the Serie A playing style,” Not knowing that Jason didn’t expect an answer, she answered.
“However, I can’t be too sure about your chances since they’re playing the league leaders on that day,” she continued.
“Wait, who are the league leaders?” Jason asked, wanting to know more about the current league situation in the Serie A.
“Inter Milan, and they have a six-point lead over Uventus who are currently in second place, however, there are two other teams with the same number of points as Uve,” Adele answered Jason scrolling through her pad as she surfed through the available information.
‘That’s some crazy competition,’ Jason thought to himself and tried to think about where he would fit into the manager’s plans for his tenure at Uve.
‘Hopefully, the manager doesn’t plan to have me mostly play for the U-21 team or some sh*t like that,’ Jason thought to himself knowing that there was a possibility for that to happen if there was no space for him on the main team.
He didn’t have time to think for much longer because they finally arrived at the Continassa.
There were a few cameras welcoming Jason as he stepped out of the car, but there wasn’t too much fanfare as he was quickly taken inside and before long was facing Andreas Pirlo, the current manager of the Uventus team.
“Welcome to Uve,” Pirlo said to Jason, putting out his hand for a handshake and Jason didn’t waste any time in taking Pirlo’s hand.
Once the greetings between all of them were over, Pirlo took the lead and started walking, all while addressing Jason.
“The medicals aren’t anything major because we already have your records from Oporto and it’s clear that you’re quite fit,”
“What you’ll be doing today is just a customary exam and a check to see if your last match didn’t affect your physicals since you’ve not been able to do a fitness test after the last match,”
“I’m sure there’ll be nothing wrong though so we should get through that quick enough and you should be able to join the rest of the guys in training,”
“Ah, and yes, we’ll have to decide on your jersey number as well as arrange a few interview schedules for you, the fans will want to see more from you on and off the field,” Pirlo spoke curtly, but there was friendliness in his tone that allowed for Jason to not be unnerved by how strict their meeting felt, not that Jason would have minded though.
Despite him being a bit fidgety that he had joined a big club like Uve, a little bit of cold shoulder from his manager wasn’t enough to unnerve Jason, not to mentio that he knew that Andreas Pirlo was naturally a very strict looking person even when he was a bit younger and was still actively playing football.
Jason could even have sworn that he had never seen a smiling picture of Andreas Pirlo, one of the greatest sniper passers of the game as well as a legend of the Uventus and Italy.
“… so, do you have any number in mind for your jersey number?” Pirlo turned around to ask Jason.
