Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Yu Xiaogang Was Beaten

When Tang Yin and Dugu Yan returned to the academy, Yu Xiaogang had already arrived at Lanba Academy to look for Liu Erlong.

However, with his appearance as a greasy middle-aged man and his status as a mere Level 29 Great Soul Master, almost no one would believe he had any connection to the dean of Lanba Academy.

At the academy gates, two soul-level security guards couldn't help but laugh when they heard Yu Xiaogang claim to know Dean Liu Erlong and that they were old friends.

"You? Just a middle-aged uncle who looks like he's in his forties or fifties and not even a proper Soul Master? You're only a Great Soul Master," one of them said mockingly.

"It's not that we're looking down on you, but look at yourself. Your strength is laughable. Both of us are just security guards, yet we're at the Soul Lord level and younger than you. If anyone here said they knew the dean, it'd be far more believable if it were one of us," the other guard added with a smirk.

"Now go, stop wasting our time. If you don't leave, don't blame us for getting rough."

Though the security guards didn't directly insult Yu Xiaogang as useless, their words made it painfully clear they considered him one.

Yu Xiaogang's greasy face turned red with anger, his chest heaving as he tried to suppress his growing fury.

But everything they said was true, and that truth stung deeply. Each word struck at his pride, and he never expected he would be stopped at the academy gates, humiliated by mere guards.

"I really know your dean. Go and report to her immediately, or else..." Yu Xiaogang said coldly, his patience wearing thin.

The two guards burst out laughing.

"Or else what? Are you planning to fight us? You're a pathetic Great Soul Master, not even a proper Soul Master!"

"Either of us could take you down," one guard sneered as he released his Soul Lord-level spirit power.

Yu Xiaogang, unfit and lacking combat experience from years spent behind a desk, staggered back a few steps under the pressure of the soul power. Despite his extensive knowledge, knowledge alone couldn't compensate for his lack of strength.

No matter how much theory he knew, he was still just a Great Soul Master facing two Soul Lords.

"You... you..." Yu Xiaogang stammered, pointing at them, his anger making him tremble.

"One last warning. If you don't leave, we won't hesitate to remove you ourselves," one guard said, stepping forward.

His martial soul, a wild boar, manifested behind him, snarling loudly at Yu Xiaogang.

The oppressive aura of the wild boar and the squealing sound forced Yu Xiaogang to step back again, his face pale and bitter with humiliation.

He instinctively considered summoning his spirit, Luo Sanpao, to resist or counterattack, but hesitated.

The wild boar spirit guard, noticing Yu Xiaogang's hesitation, sneered. "Oh, you think you can fight back? Seems like we need to teach you a lesson. A weakling like you, who can't even reach the Soul Lord level, needs to understand reality."

"Boar Burst!"

The guard activated his third spirit ring—a millennium-level ring.

Coincidentally, the wild boar's attack method bore a comical resemblance to Yu Xiaogang's Luo Sanpao, as both relied on gaseous emissions.

As the wild boar spirit's belly swelled like a balloon, the guard unleashed a foul, yellowish gas straight toward Yu Xiaogang.

Not only was the gas extremely foul-smelling, but it also contained a strange toxin. This was the most powerful soul skill of the wild boar martial soul security guard.

"You... you guys..."

Yu Xiaogang, shocked to see the wild boar martial soul security guard attacking him without hesitation, tried to retaliate in anger. However, before he could act, the large, putrid, yellow gas jet was already upon him. Its speed was so fast that Yu Xiaogang, a mere great soul master, couldn't even react or dodge. He was struck directly.

Boom!

The gas jet hit Yu Xiaogang squarely in the face. The nauseating stench overwhelmed him, twisting his features in discomfort as if he'd swallowed something repugnant. He felt as though he'd eaten pig dung.

What he hadn't anticipated was that the gas attack was also laced with poison.

And not just poison.

The force of the impact sent him flying backward, and he landed heavily on the ground, unable to get up.

"Tch, who did you think you were? You claim to know our dean, yet you're just a loser who can't even withstand one of my moves. You'd better leave and not come back," the wild boar martial soul security guard sneered. He dismissed Yu Xiaogang, returning to his duties as if nothing had happened.

Some students entering Lanba Academy glanced at the scene but didn't stay to watch the commotion. They were used to such incidents.

It wasn't uncommon for individuals to try sneaking into the academy with dubious intentions, and Yu Xiaogang looked no different to them—just another troublemaker.

Among the spectators, a passing teacher from the academy noticed the altercation. Though she didn't recognize Yu Xiaogang, she remembered the dean's previous instructions and hurried to report the matter to Liu Erlong.

At that moment, Liu Erlong was meditating in the back of the academy, consolidating her strength after breaking through to Level 79 as a Soul Saint the previous night. Meditation not only helped her stabilize her power but also calmed her thoughts—especially those lingering on a certain someone who had stirred emotions she hadn't felt in a long time.

By now, her strength had been fully stabilized at Level 79.

The teacher rushed in, interrupting her practice, and reported urgently:

"Dean, there's a greasy middle-aged man named Yu Xiaogang outside the gates. He says he's looking for you, but he seems to have gotten into a conflict with the guards and was beaten back."

"What?!" Liu Erlong stood up immediately. For a moment, her expression showed a flicker of excitement at hearing Yu Xiaogang's name, but it was quickly replaced with a mix of complex emotions.

Without delay, she left the back mountain and headed to the academy gates.

When she arrived, she saw Yu Xiaogang lying on the ground, wailing in pain. It was a pitiful sight, yet somewhat impressive that he had managed to remain conscious after the blow. Clearly, the security guard had held back, or the consequences would have been far worse.

"What happened here?" Liu Erlong demanded coldly, her gaze fixed on the security guard.

The security guard, seeing the dean approach, quickly explained the situation. He recounted how Yu Xiaogang had tried to force his way into the academy, leading to the confrontation.

Although Liu Erlong harbored deep feelings for Yu Xiaogang, she was fair and reasonable. After hearing the explanation, she decided to issue a light punishment to the security guards rather than firing them outright.

She then ordered someone to tend to Yu Xiaogang's injuries and had him escorted into the academy.
