Happy Evil Heartbreaker [Modern LitRPG]

Chapter 36: Leveling Up Skills on the Side

The holiday break passed quickly; before long, three days had flown by, taking a good chunk of the vacation with them.

With the help of her ever-reliable assistant, Dionysius, Xanthia efficiently completed the limited-time event tasks and emptied the reward pool.

Throughout this process, she thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of getting things for free, and the challenge missions were completed with remarkable ease.

The most crucial part was that Dionysius was more than willing to help her out. She graciously allowed him the opportunity to assist her, and he was even grateful for it!

Without a doubt, Dionysius was pleased with Xanthia's newfound approach to life.

The formerly introverted, socially anxious, and sensitive girl used to leave Dionysius clueless about how to please or help her.

Often pushed away and rejected, he sometimes found himself affected by her negative energy, making him feel depressed.

But the girl now? She had completely figured things out and even expressed to Dionysius that her life was long and within her control, and she shouldn’t let certain scumbags affect her. From now on, she only wanted to live in happiness.

Dionysius greatly admired this positive outlook. The old Xanthia seemed trapped in self-imposed isolation and misery, wallowing in self-pity.

So, he tentatively suggested that she join the Papadopoulos familia gatherings. Since she had such a clear perspective now, integrating into the familia and enjoying the privileges of the Papadopoulos familia's eldest daughter could bring her even more happiness.

However, Xanthia flatly refused, stating that in the entire Papadopoulos familia, only Dionysius had her approval. The others shouldn’t even bother trying to get close.

Especially their scumbag father, Demetrios—she didn’t want to see him at all and preferred never to cross paths with him again.

Dionysius had no choice but to comfort himself with the thought that at least she accepted him, and he needed to keep working hard, as a "big brother" should.

Regardless, the three days he spent playing with Xanthia, putting off other engagements, left him feeling quite relaxed. Her joy was infectious.

Spending time with the carefree Xanthia meant he too was never short of happiness.

However, he was slightly puzzled by Xanthia's obsession with the dance machine. She was terrible at it, moving stiffly and awkwardly.

Unable to hold back once, he teased her about it. Xanthia scoffed, "Precisely because I'm bad at it, I need to practice more. I'm training to dance! Once I master it, I'll take the dance competitions by storm!"

Dionysius was left speechless, silently thinking that if she wanted to learn to dance, she should get a professional teacher. Practicing on a dance machine seemed utterly pointless...

Oh well, she's the "sister," and sisters are always right. Brothers must give way to their sisters.

Putting aside the dancing, Dionysius was surprised to find that Xanthia seemed quite good at singing.

Music was his personal hobby.

Having learned piano and guitar from a young age out of interest, he maintained his skills due to his sustained passion. Even now, he never neglected these two instruments, often playing for his own enjoyment.

He even had an account on a popular music-sharing platform where he posted piano playing videos, though they garnered little attention.

After all, the piano section on the site was fiercely competitive. If you didn’t show your face, cosplay, or have striking visuals, you couldn’t outshine the glamorous and attention-grabbing pianists there, no matter how skilled you were.

Surely, no one truly believed people went to the piano section just for the pure music, right?

Dionysius was there purely for his own amusement and didn’t care if his videos were popular or not.

During his school years, his musical talent made him a “prince charming” in the eyes of many girls.

Having an artistic skill like playing an instrument was a huge advantage in student life.

For instance, Miss Evelonia La Melodia from his middle school couldn’t forget him because they once collaborated at a school event.

He accompanied her perfect singing on the piano, making her the star of the night, envied by many girls...

To Miss Evelonia, that evening was the highlight of her middle school years, a vivid memory of her youth. Not going to the same high school as Dionysius made her high school years feel dull and lifeless.

Dionysius didn’t think much of it. He was just dragged into it to fill a spot. He found such school events troublesome, but everyone knew how good he was at piano.

He became numb to these events, yet people persistently roped him in, and he couldn’t refuse since it was a way to connect with others and showcase himself.

Compared to instruments, Dionysius had little interest in singing.

At STV gatherings, he would just lounge on the sofa, listen to others’ off-key singing, or play on his phone if he got bored. No one dared to mind his behavior.

That said, while he wasn’t interested in singing, he enjoyed listening to music. A good tune and a pleasant voice could lift his spirits.

Dionysius discovered Xanthia’s singing talent during their outings when she dragged him to STV to “practice singing.”

He didn’t sing a single note, instead munching on fruit platters, skewers, drinking beverages, and playing on his phone—fully embracing his role as a human ATM, with no complaints.

Xanthia was good at managing her time, efficiently completing event tasks while also grinding her “singing” skill. After all, with her dance skill soon reaching Level 2 (Proficient), it would be embarrassing to have her singing skill stuck at Level 1 (Beginner).

Gamers often have a bit of a completionist streak; not grinding her singing skill to Lv2 left Xanthia feeling like something was missing.

Yet, she was reluctant to spend her "Joy Points" to level up the skill directly. In her view, grinding the experience from Lv1 to Lv2 wasn't too bad, so she decided to put in the effort and grind it out.

According to the system's hints, practicing her singing skills at STV yielded more experience. It was clearly a great "leveling and farming spot," albeit a bit costly...

Costly?

It's not like she was spending her own money, so why hesitate? Grinding it was!

However, Xanthia didn't take advantage of Dionysius's generosity without feeling grateful. She kept it in mind and knew she’d have a chance to repay him once her skills were leveled up.

Besides, spending money brought emotional value too. It was a fair exchange. Did the mighty King Dionysius really care about such trivial amounts of money?

Dionysius was indeed enjoying himself. Compared to watching his "sister" awkwardly dance on the machine, he preferred lounging on the STV sofa, eating, drinking, and listening to her sing. It was quite pleasant.

Moreover, her progress in singing was visible and audible!

"Xanthia, if you enjoy singing this much, I’ll get someone to help you produce an album. I think you have real talent," Dionysius said earnestly.

In this world, it wasn’t uncommon for wealthy young women to dabble in music and release albums for fun. Even in the old world, didn’t little princesses of monarchies try it? Although her self-produced electronic music was quite the disaster and became a laughingstock.
