Chapter 110: Chapter 110 : A Test
As Ethan finished speaking, the portrait on the front wall began to float without any wind.
When it was three meters away from Ethan, a black and white halo spread from the portrait.
Ethan did not dodge but stood upright in place, completely enveloped by the two-colored halo.
"You can leave if you pass the test. If you fail or haven't passed after an hour, you'll be teleported away!"
A voice sounded in Ethan's ears, and at the same time, the world began to fade from Ethan's view, then recolored, eventually turning into a black-and-white mirror space.
This scene felt somewhat familiar to Ethan, a bit like the illusion space Credence was drawn into when fighting Dumbledore, though slightly different. After all, Ethan hadn't truly experienced Dumbledore.
Opposite Ethan stood four familiar figures, looking just as they did in their younger portraits.
Rowena Ravenclaw, a tall witch with black hair and black eyes.
Helga Hufflepuff, a witch with red hair, blue eyes, a kind face, and a little plump.
A young man with gray hair, gray eyes, and a rebellious look—Salazar Slytherin.
A muscular man with red hair, green eyes, and a strong build—Godric Gryffindor.
Is he going to fight the Big Four?
Even though this is the version after ultimate weakening, it's a bit unreasonable—no student should be tested like this.
Ethan didn't move, and neither did they. It seemed they were waiting for him to act first.
Based on Ethan's observation, this didn't seem to be a "living" entity with independent thinking like Hogwarts' portraits, but more like a puppet with preset commands.
At first, he thought it was going to be a test of knowledge, but it turned out he had to fight after all.
"Mjolnir!"
As he raised his hand, a hammer flashing with endless lightning suddenly appeared in the air and came crashing down with the force of thunder!
The wide attack range made it impossible for the four to dodge.
"Protego Maxima!"
"Protego Maxima!"
Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw raised their wands, deploying two barriers in mid-air.
Bang!
Bang!
Thor's hammer shattered the first barrier, and in a burst of blue light fragments, it continued moving toward the second.
"Protego Maxima!"
Slytherin acted swiftly, reinforcing the second barrier just before it broke.
Gryffindor transformed into a majestic lion with sharp claws and bared teeth, charging straight at Ethan.
Bang!
A crisp collision echoed as the huge lion's head slammed into the blue barrier, deforming its nose, and sending ripples across the barrier.
This was one of Ethan's alchemical tools, engraved with armor and protection spell. Although not as strong as himself, it was useful for the moment.
"Corvi Tempestate!"
Ravenclaw launched her counterattack—dozens of black crows circled overhead and rushed at Ethan from all directions.
Unlike his own crow storm, this was an improved, upgraded version.
After a brief exchange, Ethan had almost gauged the approximate strength of the four Hogwarts founder puppets.
They were stronger than ordinary adult wizards but wouldn't use high-level magic. Their cooperation was seamless, though their thinking was quite rigid.
"Gungnir!"
A lightning spear appeared in front of Ethan, and as soon as the blue barrier exploded, it struck like lightning, obliterating the massive lion's head before it could react.
A torrent of black liquid splattered everywhere, and the headless lion collapsed, dissolving into a pool of inky liquid.
By this time, the black crows were closing in, and Hufflepuff and Slytherin had also freed their hands.
One conjured blazing red flames, while the other summoned two giant black serpents, simultaneously sealing off all of Ethan's escape routes.
A wisp of white flame emerged from the tip of Ethan's wand, and in an instant, the entire mirror space transformed into a sea of fire, engulfing everything.
The crows and black serpents were instantly incinerated, the red flames were absorbed, and Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin vanished into black smoke as the flames engulfed them.
Ethan kept hearing a faint clicking sound in his ears. He had no doubt he had passed the test.
The strength of the four founders was nothing to Ethan, but for other young wizards at Hogwarts, this test would have been a nightmare.
If the test Slytherin had set in his time was equivalent to this, how had little Tom passed it?
Ethan couldn't believe that young Tom, still a student at Hogwarts then, could have faced four entities stronger than average adult wizards, with the four cooperating so well.
Did Slytherin go easy on him? Or did he face an even harder version?
Finally, the space shattered, and Ethan returned to the secret room. Ravenclaw stood before him, holding the portrait of the four founders.
The surprise in her eyes was unmistakable.
She had seen the previous scene. She hadn't expected this little wizard to possess such strength and break through the level she had set so easily.
Though she was pleased to see a promising young wizard appear in Ravenclaw, this wasn't what she had intended when she designed the challenge!
The level was never meant to be passed by brute force. Wisdom was the key, just as her motto proclaimed.
In fact, the solution was to guide Gryffindor or Slytherin's magic to accidentally harm the other, sparking a fight between them. Hufflepuff would then step in to stop it, leaving only one opponent to face.
If you could outwit the one representing herself, the other three would fall in the ensuing civil war.
These rules were built into the program. It all depended on whether the test taker could find the dynamic relationship between Gryffindor and Slytherin.
In her era, Gryffindor and Slytherin often quarreled, but there was no major dispute. However, the younger wizards in the lower schools disliked each other and wanted to suppress one another, trampling on each other whenever they saw an opportunity.
This had become a kind of tradition. Ravenclaw believed that as long as Hogwarts existed, the relationship between Slytherin and Gryffindor would continue to be entangled in this way.
It was a pity that all her preparations were in vain. She encountered such a monster that forcibly broke through her own barriers.
Compared to Ravenclaw, he feels more like Gryffindor: reckless, fearless, and preferring to use brute force instead of thinking.
"Tell me about the situation of Hogwarts and Ravenclaw over the years."
After hanging the portrait back in its original position, Ravenclaw took Ethan to the rest area.
There were only two things worth her longing for: Helena and Hogwarts. Helena was already a ghost, and Ravenclaw had given up the idea of meeting her. After a thousand years, such a meeting would only bring trouble.
Hogwarts was like her own child. She chose the location and oversaw its construction. Ravenclaw was eager to know how Hogwarts had fared after a thousand years of development.
After being awakened, the information she could gather was limited to the means she had left in this secret room. She could only check the current Ravenclaw Tower but couldn't grasp the full development of Hogwarts or the major events that had occurred over the years.
After all, she could only observe outward appearances and couldn't directly read the memories of young wizards.
Ethan could only share what he knew, most of which came from "A History of Hogwarts" and "A History of Magic," along with some updates on the current state of Hogwarts.
When she heard that the current headmaster, Dumbledore, had moved most of the restricted section's books to the headmaster's office, Ravenclaw's face darkened. Because of a single bad apple, the path of future young wizards was blocked. The headmaster was unqualified!
The establishment of the restricted section had been Ravenclaw's proposal when the library was founded. It was meant to provide a better platform for the more exceptional, hardworking, and extraordinary young wizards.
This was to help young wizards grow and give them more opportunities to choose the right path. Whether they received the professor's approval openly or sneaked in to read, both were allowed.
If things were like Dumbledore's methods, there wouldn't be any need for the restricted section at all, and no reason to put in so much effort. "The process of collecting many books was quite easy."
"I am very glad that Ravenclaw has a student like you."
After that, Ravenclaw turned into blue light and disappeared in front of Ethan, leaving only a crystal ball—the one that had been glowing at the start.
Ethan held it in his hand, and the method to use it appeared in his mind.
Hogwarts was alive, and the headmaster had immense authority, but some areas were still beyond his reach, such as Slytherin's secret room and now Ravenclaw's secret room.
With this crystal ball, Ethan could freely enter and exit this secret room in the Ravenclaw Tower. By using magic to activate the crystal ball, a door connecting to the room would appear.
In other words, everything in Ravenclaw's secret room now belonged to Ethan.
At the same time, an achievement was completed on the panel.
[Millennium Mystery————— Ravenclaw]
The eyes of wisdom shine with stars, the spark of thought never ceases, the ocean of knowledge is boundless, and the pursuit of knowledge is eternal.
Achievement goal: Reach Ravenclaw's secret room (1/1)
Achievement reward: Immediate ancient magic
Ethan immediately unlocked it.
The exorcism spell was an intriguing magic. As its name suggested, it was used to expel, control, and kill spiritual creatures, including ghosts, Peeves, Dementors, etc.
There was also a soul slavery contract, which completely controlled the life and death of a soul.
However, a person could only sign a contract with one soul at a time. If they wished to sign another, they would have to erase the previous one.
