Harry Potter: Using science to be IMMORTAL

Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Photonic Camouflage

Murphy's phantom form arrived at a civilian residence in Kent County, seeking out a security field agent named Schmidt Gibson.

The latter was somewhat surprised by his rapid arrival but didn't ask too much, instead saying, "Sorry, boss, the other party was very fast and their methods were beyond our understanding. By the time we detected them, they had already left."

As he spoke, he switched the main control TV to a recorder and rewound it a bit. "Take a look at this."

The TV displayed an image of a warehouse with the camera directly facing the main door, marked with the time 22:06.

For a while, the night footage looked like a still image. Suddenly, the warehouse's door lock fell off by itself, and the door was opened slightly, then closed again.

Oddly, there was no sign of anyone in the footage.

Then Schmidt switched the view to inside the warehouse. It was still empty, but suddenly a box opened by itself, a bottle of liquid was taken out and placed aside. Then there was a 'snap', like the flash of an old camera, followed by some white smoke.

Still, no person was captured by the camera.

Murphy frowned, "Do we have infrared footage? I remember asking you to install infrared cameras, right?"

"Yes."

Schmidt switched to another recorder, rewinding to the warehouse entrance. This time the footage was tinged in light green, enhanced by active infrared light sources.

This time, they saw the person who opened the warehouse door.

It was a stealthy figure, but their outline was still unclear, blending into the night like a chameleon. Only when they moved significantly could some parts of their body be discerned from the discrepancies in the footage.

In the darker interior of the warehouse, the camera's effectiveness worsened. Only in the afterglow of the magnesium flash did they get a full view of the person.

It was a man in a long robe.

A wizard.

"Do we have any thermal imaging records?" Murphy asked.

Apart from ordinary infrared cameras, Murphy had also invested heavily in a thermal imaging camera to guard against wizards' illusion spells.

"Let me check." Schmidt switched the TV signal to another device.

The screen showed a series of jerky, comic-like images.

After all, the thermal imaging technology wasn't fully matured at the time. Murphy's expensive device, limited by hardware power, could only maintain a one-frame-per-second rate.

But it was enough for them to see the person's movements.

They saw him enter the warehouse, fumble around for a while, and then purposefully start looking for something. Eventually, he found a box and took out several potions, then photographed them with an old camera.

After all this, he restored the scene, and finally left the warehouse waving a wooden stick.

Murphy knew from his calm and proficient method that this was not an outsider like Papert last time, but an expert in disguise, stealth, and intelligence gathering.

Only Aro had such capabilities in the magical world.

Fast action, old lion.

"Boss, what exactly is this technology? Ordinary cameras couldn't capture any images. Did you foresee this happening?"

"See his cloak? That's photonic camouflage, a military technology still in experimentation," Murphy bluffed. "Get some people to collect fingerprints in the warehouse."

"Do you need me to contact some people to compare those fingerprints?" Schmidt asked.

Their security company had some cooperation with the police and intelligence departments, so borrowing their system to identify someone wasn't too difficult.

"No need," Murphy shook his head, taking out a stack of documents. "Let the fingerprint experts look through these."

An Aro's fingerprint information was unlikely to match anything in the Muggle system, but the documents he held contained information about the wizard alchemists he had recruited.

Yes, he suspected the intruder might be an inside man.

Sure enough, the experts soon identified one person through fingerprints.

Hamoud Abra, a potion maker of Central Asian descent.

Murphy remembered him as a quiet, short male wizard, graduated from Hogwarts three years ago, reportedly from a poor family. His potion talent was decent, usually producing high-quality beauty potions.

However, Murphy couldn't be sure if he was the Aro spy.

The polyjuice potion was potent enough to perfectly imitate fingerprints during its effect. Maybe, he was just an unfortunate pawn replaced by Aro.

But regardless of the situation, Murphy's course of action remained the same.

The next morning, he met Hamoud at the Supreme Potion shop.

After finding a reason to call Hamoud to a room alone, Murphy was already waiting there.

As soon as he entered, Hamoud seemed to sense something was wrong and tried to reach for his wand, but Murphy was faster.

"Total Petrification!"

"Mind Extraction!"

Hamoud's reaction made Murphy highly suspect he was Aro, so he cast Mind Extraction without hesitation to get some information.

However, he was surprised that the spell received no response.

"Brain Lock Spell?"

No doubt about it now, the other party must be Aro.

Who else would practice a Brain Lock Spell?

But, thinking you can keep your secrets with a Brain Lock Spell?

Murphy tapped his wand on the other's head, lifting the petrification from his head, opened his mouth, and prepared to administer Veritaserum.

Hamoud shouted, "Murphy Darkholme! You openly attack Aro, my colleagues will soon come to support, let me go, you're arrested!"

"Oh? Is there support?"

Murphy felt a bit regretful, realizing he had no time to extract any information.

"Thanks for the reminder, so have a good dream, Mr. Hamoud."

"Forget Everything!"

...

By the time Aro's agents arrived at the Supreme Potion shop, Murphy had already left.

They eventually found their colleague by a sewer in Knockturn Alley, who had lost all memories of the past month.

They went to Hamoud Abra's residence, which had been burned to the ground. Whatever evidence he might have found was now gone.
