Chapter 139 – Student Assembly (1)
The next Monday, I arrived at Sanctuary’s First with Ley hugging my arm and smiling.
She had been clingier than usual since we met Sylvia’s mom, spending practically every day clung to my arm.
I did not really mind it. Just like Ley liked being spoiled by me, I liked to spoil her.
But the fact that Ley was always with me caused me a little trouble.
I could not find time to spend with other girls.
The time limit to use the Soul Supplementation Art again was nearing. If I did not want to die, I had to find another person to sleep with.
I had made zero progress in that aspect, though.
‘At this rate, I will have to resort to prostitutes.’
I really wanted to avoid that if it was possible.
If somehow, Ley or my mother learn that I visited prostitutes, they will be really disappointed in me.
‘Sigh… I really hate that technique.’
“Brother, is there anything wrong?” Ley asked when she saw me sighing.
“Nothing. I just thought of something troublesome.”
“Is it so?” Ley tilted her head with a confused expression.
After arriving at Sanctuary’s First, we headed off straight to our classroom. On the way, though, we noticed something unusual.
The atmosphere on the campus was very abnormal.
“… Everybody looks very tense,” Ley commented.
I nodded.
Most of the students we passed had tense or concerned expressions, as though they were worried about something.
The reason was a piece of information that had spread throughout the campus.
“Did you hear? A group of students from the eblor race are coming here as exchange students.”
“Is that true? God, what if they try to attack us?”
“First the celers and now the tree demons. I don’t know what the teachers are thinking.”
Ley frowned.
“Are they talking about the eblors we met?”
“Most likely.” I nodded. “As expected, the students did not receive the news well.”
Ley nodded, and her expression became tense, just like the students around us.
I probably was making a similar expression.
The relationship between humans and foreign races is one of hatred and disgust. The first feeling a human have when they heard about an eblor or a celer is fear, followed by hostility.
That is why the idea of accepting celers and eblors as exchange students is weird. I can easily imagine something going wrong.
The higher-ups surely know that too. What are they thinking then?
In the middle of that tense atmosphere, we arrived at the classroom.
But before I could greet Andrew and Sylvia, an unfamiliar black-haired girl entered the classroom and walked toward me.
“Are you Jane Walker?”
I was taken aback when she called my name.
“I am. Do you need anything?”
“Nice to meet you, my name is Jazmine Ortos, secretary of the student assembly.” The girl introduced herself and extended her hand toward me. I shook her hand with a confused expression.
“The student assembly?”
“You are a freshman, so you probably don’t know about us. We are a group of students from different grades and courses who are in charge of communicating the request of the student body to the administration of Sanctuary’s First. We also take charge of some matters related to the students and sometimes receive requests from Sanctuary0s First. You can think of us like the student council.”
“Is it so?” I nodded. “I think I understand. Can I ask, what does the student assembly want from me?”
“Sorry for the inconvenience. Can you come with me? The representative wants to talk to you.” She asked politely.
Ley and I looked at each other in confusion.
Why does the representative of the student assembly want to see me?
“I understand.” I nodded while feeling perplexed by the situation.
“Thank you. Also, Miss Sylvia and Miss Ley, I hope the two of you can come with us as well.”
Sylvia and Ley tilted their heads.
“Me too. Well, I don't mind.”
“O-Okay.”
Under the concerned gaze of Andrew and the curious gazes of our other classmates, we followed Jazmine to the student assembly’s office.
“Miss Jazmine, can I ask you why the representative wants to see us?” I asked on the way to the office.
Jazmine hesitated briefly before opening her mouth.
“… It’s related to the eblors. Sorry, I can only tell you that much. You will have to wait for the representative to tell you the rest.”
I nodded and stopped asking, but I already had an idea what was the reason.
‘Was this Lily’s doing?’
When we met at the boutique, she asked me to be their guide through the campus. Back then, I did not take it seriously, but it looks like she was serious.
‘How troublesome…’ I sighed.
My life is already chaotic enough, and now more trouble is coming.
‘I should find a way to reject it.’
For some reason, though, I had the feeling that rejecting it was not going to be easy.
Perhaps just like the demon said, I had used up my life’s worth of luck when he saved me back then in that dungeon.
