Hogwarts: I can see Magic Paths

Chapter 5: Chapter 5 - The Boat Ride

When the train finally arrived at the platform. Felix dismounted the train with Angel and the rest of the students. Where a booming voice could be heard over the chatting students.

"First years over here, first years!"

There among the sea of children, a man with a black bushy beard called. The man was easily the height of two people and quite well rounded. In his hand was a lamp as the first years gathered around him.

"I assume that is Hagrid. James talks about him quite a bit." Angel was surprised at the man's height. "I heard he was tall, but not this tall."

"It's just twice the size of an average person. What is there to be surprised about?" Felix shrugged before he tripped over a foot.

Upon his near face plant, Felix was able to catch himself a bit. He then heard a few snickering and some laughter. Where he saw a familiar face of Severus Snape among the group responsible and held a small smile.

"Are you ok?" Angel asked.

"Yeah." Felix picked himself up.

Then he poked his wand out of his sleeve and cast a few spells at those that tripped him. For when they took the next step, all ended up doing the splits and for anyone who hasn't practiced or stretched before hand. Well, their screams could tell you it hurts quite a bit.

As for what type of wand he has, it was an english oak, thirteen inches with a phoenix feather. When he matched with it, Mr. Ollivander said it would go through thick and thin with him.

"You can cast magic silently?" Angel noticed his small movements mainly due to looking at him.

"Non-verbal isn't too hard. It just requires one to be more focused." Felix replied with a shrug.

If Felix rated the focus needed in order to cast magic from least to most. Then the order would go from verbal, nonverbal and finally wandless being the highest. Another way to look is if in order to cast it, verbal requires one unit of focus, then non-verbal needs two and wandless needs three. However, fulfilling the units can be a bit tricky as a witch or wizard may over focus the needed amount or not enough making the magic either weaker or differ from intended.

Putting more isn't always a good thing, and it's a bit like Naruto with their chakra. They can mold extra chakra to form a jutsu and it either waste the stamina when molding the extra chakra or cause the jutsu to fail. Hence why many view non-verbal to be a bit weaker than verbal spells, due to many not practicing enough.

"Can you teach me?" Angel asked.

"The school will teach you in sixth year I believe." Felix replied.

"I don't want to wait until then." Angel grumbled.

"Well, in essence it is just practicing casting magic without saying anything. So it's more of one's own effort than someone teaching you." Felix replied.

"So you agree to help." Angel nodded like it was a done deal.

Felix just lightly sighed since he really felt it was the person's own effort if they can cast non-verbally. However, since his new friend wanted help then so be it. He could just work on his own project during that time.

Upon climbing into a boat with Angel, Felix notices a boy who seems a bit prideful and a bit flamboyant. The boy had nice looking robes and neatly combed wavy blonde hair, blue eyes that scanned them as if awaiting a greeting.

"Hello." Felix just simply said before he shifted his eyes.

The other person in the boat was a boy with freckles and brown hair. He looked fairly plain, truth be told with a slight chubby cheeks. The boy's brown eyes nervously shifted between him and Angel as they sat down, but gave out a very soft hello.

"So, what's your name?" Felix asked. "My name is Felix and this is my new friend Angel."

"Gilderoy Lockhart, I have you know, I'm a super genius that very few have seen before." Gilderoy said, throwing his head back a bit as he smiled.

"John Bell." The quiet boy replied.

"So, what branch of magic are you looking forward to learning?" Felix asked John.

He held no real interest in Gilderoy Lockhart for while he was a bit of a talented wizard, if he remembers correctly. The boy was also a very lazy one and wouldn't put much effort into anything unless he was sure to be the very best. Which is why despite being put into Ravenclaw, by the time he became the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor. His skills had deteriorated so much he wasn't much more than a squib.

Now that won't say he would torment or look down upon Gilderoy, but Felix wouldn't go out of his way to interact with him. If the boy asks for help, he will give it, but he won't cater or seek the boy out.

"Transfiguration. My grandfather always dreamed of becoming an Animagus, but always felt his talent wasn't enough. So I want to help him achieve his dream of becoming one in the future." John replied. "My father also wants to become one, but he has always had a weak body since he was born and don't dare try. Otherwise, instead of transforming, he will go on the next great adventure."

Felix nodded as he could understand that issue since he had a similar issue due to his addiction of looking at Paths. He was also sure why John talked so much is due to how nervous he was at attending Hogwarts. Which was understandable, since a few families like to keep how the sorting is done a secret.

"If you're interested, I can help you in that regard. Even if you're the bottom of the class I'm sure with a lot of effort, we can get you to be an animagus by graduation." Felix winked with a smile.

If the known method of becoming an animagus is too much, then Felix would just look at the various paths. Then he would just pick another way to help John in achieving his goal. Granted that was if John was still interested in becoming one or wanted his help.

John just looked confused, while Angel just gave him a curious glance. On the other hand Gilderoy seems slightly offended at being ignored. Since in his opinion, others should be lining up to greet him as a talented young wizard his mother and himself believe to be.

"What about you?" John asked.

"Tough choice. I will probably just focus on what interests me for a while but probably will focus on Transfiguration too. I hope I can become a Transfiguration Professor at some point in the future." Felix replied.

It wasn't a very exciting dream, but he didn't really have a grand dream. He just wants to craft or learn various magic and continue peeking into the Path of various things. Maybe write a few hundred magic books and maybe become the Headmaster of Hogwarts for a decade or so before retiring and doing something else.

Wizards have a long lifespan compared to non-magicals and with his gift he could easily extend his or others if he so chooses. So locking himself away in a boarding school wasn't something he wanted to do all his life, but as for becoming a Minister of Magic or some other important figure. He felt tired just thinking about it and crossed that out of possible occupations in the future.

"You want to become a Professor?" Angel asked. "They tend to be very busy."

"Well, yeah, but isn't that what a student assistant is for? Help you mark a few papers and things and in exchange give them some private tutoring lessons and extra points throughout the years. Then the burden is reduced quite a bit." Felix waved his hand, but felt tired after that and stopped.

Despite sleeping most of the trip, Felix still felt tired after walking the trails to the boat and up to the castle. While they were chatting, they had crossed the lake and now stood before the entrance to the castle. Which in his opinion was more of a workout then when he had his physical therapy with Mr. Granger.

Standing in front of the large wooden doors leading into the castle, was an older looking witch in a green robe. Her eyes seemed to drift over everyone with a stern look, right before her eyes lingered on Felix. Then she began a welcome speech.
