Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Bad Thing, It's Too Late
Naruto felt a sense of unease when he saw the Mist Shinobi rebel lying on the ground, thrashing in pain after his punch.
"Er Zhuzi! Where's your Sharingan? Hurry up and greet me!" Naruto called out.
Sasuke, despite feeling the drain on his Chakra, approached from the side and asked suspiciously, "Naruto, how exactly do you want me to greet him?"
"Use Sharingan's genjutsu to force the truth out of him," Naruto instructed, bending down to lift the beaten ninja and positioning him in front of Sasuke.
Naruto, despite not having a Sharingan himself, knew enough about its capabilities. Teaching Sasuke to use it for interrogation was one of his ideas.
Sasuke sighed, activated his Sharingan again, and locked eyes with the rogue ninja. The effect was immediate—the rebel ninja fell under the genjutsu's control.
Sasuke began his interrogation:
"How many of you are there?"
"Three," the ninja answered dully.
"Are they all here?"
"Yes, that's right."
"Why are you kidnapping children?"
"To sell them," the ninja replied without hesitation. "I needed money to support my wife! What else was I supposed to do? Offer her to my ancestors?"
Sasuke frowned. "You have a wife? And you still ruin other families by stealing their children? Have you no conscience?"
"Why should I care about other people?" the rogue ninja retorted shamelessly.
Naruto, observing this, gave Sasuke a cheeky nudge. "Forget the moral lecture. Ask him if his wife is pretty."
Sasuke turned and glared at Naruto. "What?"
Nearby, Sakura and Kakashi stared at Naruto in disbelief.
Naruto shrugged. "Okay, forget I said anything."
Ignoring Naruto's antics, Sasuke resumed the interrogation and gathered more details. Eventually, the full story emerged.
The rogue ninjas were Mist Shinobi deserters, fleeing the Land of Water to escape punishment. Penniless and desperate, they turned to kidnapping and selling children to fund their vices. As for the "wife" the ninja mentioned, she turned out to be a waitress in a shady hotel.
After extracting all useful information, Naruto swiftly crushed the rebel's neck and tossed the body aside. He dusted off his hands and said, "Mission complete. You guys head back. I've got other things to do."
"What?" Sakura exclaimed. "Naruto-kun, aren't you coming back with us?"
Naruto shook his head.
"But Naruto," Sakura protested, "didn't the Third Hokage say you'd be in danger if you stayed outside the village?"
Naruto placed a hand on his abdomen and smirked. "Don't worry. I don't sense any danger. Besides, I have 1.5 Nine-Tails with me."
Kakashi, concerned, tried to reason with him. "Naruto, this isn't a good idea. You might regret it—"
"Jōnin-sama," Naruto interrupted, "who needs protection here? Me, or Sasuke and Sakura? Also, who's the team captain?"
Kakashi hesitated before relenting. "Fine. But don't say I didn't warn you."
With that, Team Kakashi returned to Konoha, while Naruto headed east.
---
To the east of the Land of Fire lay the ocean and a small island nation called the Land of Waves.
Naruto had chosen this mission because of its proximity to the Land of Waves. He remembered the plot from the original story: Team Kakashi helped free the country from the tyrannical businessman Gato. But now, with the timeline altered, Naruto feared the country had fallen into ruin.
He decided to check on the situation and, if necessary, intervene. Plus, if Gato was still around, Naruto could "borrow" some of his money.
---
Upon arriving in the Land of Waves, Naruto learned some unsettling news.
The timeline had shifted. Instead of Team Kakashi, it was Team Guy who had taken on the mission.
Here's what had happened:
Zabuza, the rogue Mist Ninja, fought against Team Guy. During the battle, Zabuza injured Rock Lee, but Guy retaliated with a powerful kick. That kick shocked Zabuza into reconsidering his life choices.
Realizing he was being used, Zabuza turned on Gato, decapitating the tyrant and stealing his fortune. Then, he and his companion, the beautiful Haku, vanished, leaving behind a mountain of cash.
When Naruto heard this from Team Guy, he couldn't help but curse internally. Damn troublemaker! You stole my loot!
---
While Naruto stood there fuming, Tenten approached him curiously. "Naruto, aren't you the guy who was selling photos recently?"
Naruto blinked, surprised by the question. "Yeah, that's me. Why?"
Tenten's eyes sparkled. "Would you consider taking more photos to sell?"
"Me?" Naruto waved his hands dismissively. "No way! Never again!"
Tenten tilted her head. "You can name your price."
Naruto stayed firm. "I have my pride! I won't sell out for a few taels!"
"How about 100,000 taels?" Tenten countered.
Naruto smirked. "Hah, woman, you underestimate me."
"200,000."
"I'm not interested."
"One million," Tenten offered without hesitation.
Naruto hesitated for a moment but shook his head. "It's not about the money—"
"Three million," Tenten interrupted.
Naruto's resolve wavered. "Well, the thing is, we don't have a camera here."
"Five million," Tenten insisted, leaning closer.
Naruto sighed in defeat. "Alright, fine. What pose and outfit do you want for the photo?"
On the side, Might Guy, Rock Lee, and Neji exchanged incredulous looks.
---
As Naruto prepared for the photo session, he couldn't shake the feeling that his original mission had taken a bizarre turn. But he consoled himself with the thought that he'd at least walk away significantly richer.
While Zabuza and Haku eloped with Gato's fortune, Naruto would ensure that his wallet wouldn't be left empty either.
And so, Naruto embarked on another unexpected adventure, one that involved both heroics and a little bit of entrepreneurial spirit.
