Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Teacher Mu Yue is a Good Person
Upon returning home, Mu Yue went to the bathroom and stuck out his tongue in front of the mirror.
As expected, there was a black curse mark on his tongue—The Curse Seal of Absolute Obedience, a compulsory mark for every Root member.
If Mu Yue remembered correctly, this curse's effect was that anyone who spoke of certain sensitive matters would immediately become paralyzed and unable to move.
Danzo had specifically designed the curse to prevent leaks about him and Root's secrets. This way, even if a member was captured or defected, they couldn't disclose any information.
If that was the only issue, Mu Yue wouldn't mind too much; he wasn't planning on leaking Root's secrets anyway. However, his real concern was the possibility that Danzo could control the curse at will. That would mean a fatal weakness was entirely in Danzo's hands.
Mu Yue carefully pondered if there was a way to break the Curse Seal of Absolute Obedience, searching through his memories of the original Naruto story.
"It seems like the only solution is Danzo's death," he concluded.
No one in the original story had managed to lift the curse, except perhaps those who were specifically freed by Hiruzen when taken out of Root. Otherwise, the curse vanished only when Danzo died.
But Danzo wasn't some fragile AD carry from a MOBA game who'd just die in a team fight without intervention.
The old schemer valued his life greatly. He rarely left the safety of Root's base, and he might even have contingencies for revival. Taking him down would be exceedingly difficult.
Considering his current strength, Mu Yue decided to shelve the idea of killing Danzo for now.
"I'll have to find Orochimaru or research it myself," he thought, realizing he only had two real options.
However, even that boiled down to just one option for now, as he had no way to connect with Orochimaru yet.
Mu Yue checked the time and, feeling it was about right, activated a sensory ninjutsu to detect Shisui's approach.
Walking out into the courtyard, Mu Yue mused about how much trust Danzo seemed to have in the body's original owner. He had used his sensory jutsu several times and hadn't detected any surveillance by Root operatives.
Just as he sensed Shisui nearing the house, Mu Yue quickly formed hand seals and unleashed his chakra. In an instant, an enormous fireball, eight meters tall, appeared in the yard. It incinerated the training dummy to ashes and scorched the ground, leaving large charred patches.
Shisui, who had just entered the courtyard, witnessed this shocking scene and was utterly stunned. His mind reeled at Mu Yue's mastery of Fire Release.
While the Great Fireball Technique was merely a C-rank ninjutsu, its classification was based on the difficulty of learning it, not its effectiveness. Many Uchiha jonin frequently used this technique in battle.
However, Shisui was certain that not even the strongest Uchiha jonin could create such an awe-inspiring fireball in such a short amount of time. Their inability to convert chakra to flames at this level of efficiency was the difference.
"Sensei Mu Yue, I'm sorry to interrupt your training," Shisui quickly apologized after regaining his composure.
"No worries. I had just finished," Mu Yue replied with a smile, taking a deep breath before inviting Shisui into his home.
"Actually, the Uchiha's current situation has a lot to do with your former clan leader, Uchiha Madara," Mu Yue began as he poured two cups of water, handing one to Shisui while holding the other. He then started explaining the Uchiha clan's history.
"You know that Madara betrayed the village, don't you?"
Shisui nodded. "The clan's records say that the leader left Konoha."
"If it were merely 'leaving,' things wouldn't have turned out like this," Mu Yue clarified, explaining that if it hadn't been for Hashirama's strength, Madara might have destroyed Konoha entirely.
Shisui fell silent, processing this revelation.
But Mu Yue told him the story didn't end there.
This incident led the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, who already harbored a dislike for the Uchiha, to grow even more wary of the clan. When he became Hokage, he implemented several policies specifically aimed at controlling the Uchiha.
These policies, in turn, angered the Uchiha hawks, some of whom plotted to seize power by force. When the plot was discovered, they were imprisoned by the Anbu.
These successive events gradually overshadowed the clan's past merits with a negative reputation, making them unwelcome among the villagers.
"So that's what happened…" Shisui realized he had underestimated the complexity of the situation.
"However, there were Uchiha who worked hard to change this. Uchiha Kagami is the most notable example," Mu Yue continued, shifting the conversation to Kagami.
"Sensei Mu Yue, what kind of person do you think Uchiha Kagami was?" Shisui, curious about his grandfather, asked.
Although Shisui had never met his grandfather, he had heard many stories about him from other clansmen—tales of his great strength and genius.
"A Uchiha who embodied the Will of Fire. He made himself a bridge to connect the Uchiha and Konoha, alleviating tensions between the two," Mu Yue replied after some thought.
Although Mu Yue's words weren't full of grand praises, Shisui found them to be the most fitting and meaningful evaluation he'd ever heard.
"I want to become a Uchiha like my grandfather!" Shisui declared with a determined gaze, not realizing he had referred to Kagami as "grandfather."
"Grandfather?" Mu Yue raised an eyebrow, surprised.
Shisui realized his slip but, instead of making excuses, straightforwardly admitted it. "Yes, Kagami was my grandfather."
"You don't need to worry about repaying any debts of gratitude. Just visit your grandfather's grave when you have time. I think that would make him happy," Shisui added.
"A debt of life can't go unpaid. Shisui, would you be willing to become my disciple?" Mu Yue asked.
Shisui understood Mu Yue's intent. While he felt it was unfair to Mu Yue, he also recognized the opportunity to learn from such a knowledgeable and powerful teacher. Ultimately, he nodded and said, "Teacher Mu Yue."
[Do you want to establish a master-disciple relationship with Uchiha Shisui?]
The system prompt appeared instantly, and Mu Yue chose "yes" without hesitation. Shisui was a rare genius he couldn't let slip away.
[Relationship established successfully. Current trust level: 2. Unlocking "Disciple Growth Feedback" and "Gift Return."]
Reading the descriptions of these abilities, Mu Yue was thrilled. Disciple Growth Feedback meant that as Shisui grew stronger, Mu Yue would also gain corresponding improvements. The higher the trust level, the greater the feedback. At trust level 2, the feedback was doubled: for every point Shisui increased his chakra, Mu Yue would gain two points!
Gift Return allowed Mu Yue to receive a random reward whenever he gifted something to Shisui. The better the relationship, the higher the quality of the reward, and it could be used once per day.
Mu Yue decided to test the Gift Return function. Taking out a small notebook, he handed it to Shisui.
"This is a training manual for fire nature chakra transformation I summarized myself. Take it and study carefully. I will regularly check your progress. As a teacher, I'm very strict and won't lower my standards because of past favors," Mu Yue said seriously.
Since Shisui's growth directly benefited him, Mu Yue was determined to ensure Shisui trained diligently.
"Thank you, Teacher Mu Yue. I will train hard," Shisui said earnestly, accepting the notebook.
Shisui appreciated Mu Yue's strictness. It showed that Mu Yue truly saw him as a disciple, not just someone to repay a favor.
[You gifted your disciple a training manual. Due to your disciple's deep gratitude, you triggered a critical reward: Fire Release: Dragon Fire Technique (Proficient Level).]
As the system delivered the reward, Mu Yue instantly gained the memory and experience of practicing the Dragon Fire Technique countless times, as if he had mastered it long ago.
The Dragon Fire Technique, a B-rank Fire Release jutsu, prioritized precision and flexibility over area coverage. A skilled user could manipulate fire dragons to attack their enemies freely. With practice, the seals could be simplified to just one, allowing simultaneous control of multiple fire dragons.
Thanks to the system, Mu Yue could now release three fire dragons with just a single seal.
Looking at Shisui, Mu Yue's gaze was no longer that of a person looking at another. To him, Shisui had become a goldmine—an endless source of growth and rewards.
Realizing it was getting late, Mu Yue said, "It's getting dark. Let me walk you home so your family doesn't worry."
"Thank you, Teacher, but I can walk back slowly on my own. It's just me at home right now," Shisui waved him off.
Hearing this, Mu Yue recalled that Shisui's parents had never appeared in the story. They must have died shortly after he was born.
Only now did Mu Yue realize that neither of them had parents. Quite the coincidence.
"But my uncle visits often to take care of me," Shisui added, noticing Mu Yue's concern.
Mu Yue nodded and didn't insist on accompanying him. It was only their first meeting; there would be plenty of opportunities to build goodwill in the future.
On his way home, Shisui flipped through the training manual Mu Yue had given him. Remembering the fire jutsu he had seen earlier, Shisui grew even more curious about his teacher.
As a recognized prodigy in his clan and Kagami's grandson, Shisui had encountered many strong Uchiha. His perspective was far broader than that of his peers.
He couldn't understand why someone as powerful as Mu Yue was merely a chunin and a teacher at the academy, which didn't seem to require such strength. After all, the academy only taught basic techniques like the Three Basic Ninjutsu.
Watching Shisui disappear into the distance, Mu Yue found himself looking forward to the next day.
Tomorrow, he had classes in both the morning and afternoon. He couldn't wait to see what new rewards the system would bring him.
Moreover, the afternoon class was with Might Guy and Obito's group. What kind of potential would they have?
