In the workplace, it was often so: the achievements of subordinates became their superiors' accomplishments, while the mistakes of superiors were blamed on their underlings.
This unwritten rule had been subtly ingrained over centuries, with no one daring to defy it. Even someone as seasoned as Su Jinyan couldn't challenge it; she could only obediently endure her rebuke without protest.
As the diviners watched Su Jinyan, their gazes held admiration, fear, and even schadenfreude.
No one expected a mere junior diviner to speak with such audacity towards three senior officials.
It was well-known that Diviner Su Jinyan maintained a relatively harmonious relationship with Grand Diviner Fu Xuan. However, rules were rules, and openly defying his superiors today would undoubtedly invite punishment for Su Jinyan. In the worst-case scenario, he risked losing his official position altogether.
Moreover, Grand Diviner Fu Xuan could not show favoritism due to personal ties, lest it undermine discipline within the Divination Commission and hinder future leadership.
"W-What did you say?" Jingzhe was utterly stunned, almost doubting his own ears.
"I said, every last one of you diviners, idling in your positions and coasting on empty promises—you're all f*cking useless." Su Jinyan sneered contemptuously.
Strictly speaking, this divination result should never have appeared.
Last night, he had stayed up with Qingque, tirelessly combining available information to simulate countless scenarios for Luofu's future.
After enduring numerous failures, they finally derived this ominous divination symbol. Unfortunately, it was as fleeting as a moonflower bloom—unable to be replicated again afterward.
Today's divination results were actually due to manipulations Qingque made at the array foundation last night. If Fu Xuan were present, he would undoubtedly notice the tampering; however, the other diviners might not discern it.
This assurance had been given by Qingque, confidently thumping their chest despite its utter emptiness.
Conveniently, Fu Xuan was attending a meeting at the Seat of Divine Foresight today—not just him, but the heads of all six divisions of Luofu were there.
If any diviner wished to reverify the divination symbol produced by the Matrix of Prescience, simply activating it again would erase the traces left behind.
Unfortunately, no matter how meticulously Su Jinyan planned, he hadn't anticipated these three diviners' reactions.
Could it be that they genuinely understood nothing?
Of course not; Fu Xuan would never appoint someone solely based on personal connections. How could one without any competence possibly ascend to the position of diviner?
The primary issue was the severe chain reaction this divination report threatened to unleash. No diviner dared to approve it, unwilling to bear such responsibility.
Yet faced with such a catastrophic disaster, they still sought to evade their duties. Was it too harsh to call them idle parasites, occupying positions without fulfilling their roles?
Hui Xing's expression darkened as she looked up at him. "Su Jinyan, you may have misunderstood. We—"
Su Jinyan pointed back and forth between the three diviners, scolding each in turn. "I don't have time to waste here with you lot."
"I'm going straight to the Seat of Divine Foresight to meet the general."
Upon hearing this, the diviners instantly panicked.
As a mere junior diviner, how dare you attempt to enter the Seat of Divine Foresight with an unauthorized divination report? Trying to bypass protocol and escalate your findings? What audacity!
With Diviner Fu Xuan absent, these diviners were the highest authorities within the Divination Commission. If anything went wrong, they would be hard-pressed to escape blame.
"Quick, stop him!"
"We mustn't let him leave the Divination Commission!"
"If there's any fallout, we'll all bear responsibility!"
The predictors hesitated, uncertain whether they should intervene.
At that moment, Shen Hai appeared before Su Jinyan. Lowering his voice urgently, he tried to halt him. "Have you lost your mind?"
"It seems you didn't heed my words that day; indeed, you've betrayed the Medicine King's secret teachings."
"Cease this foolishness now, or..."
Su Jinyan continued walking, his gaze indifferent.
"You're quite the obstacle." With a slight gesture, a sharp cross pierced through Shen Hai's body instantly.
Shhh—
Blood splattered, staining his robes crimson.
Clutching at his blood-soaked abdomen, disbelief filled Shen Hai's eyes. He had considered various scenarios where Su Jinyan might confront him openly, but never did he imagine that Su Jinyan would choose to kill him right before everyone's eyes.
Madness, sheer madness.
The diviners screamed in terror and scattered, fearing Su Jinyan might embark on a killing spree. Chaos erupted within the Divination Commission, leaving no one brave enough to stop him.
Straining with all his might, Shen Hai yelled, "He is the cultivator of the Medicine King's secret teachings! I have evidence!"
"My jade divination tablet holds proof, and there's more evidence of his collusion with the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus in our family's safe!"
"Hurry, summon healers from the Alchemy Commission! Quickly call for judges from the Ten-Lords Commission!"
Su Jinyan smiled faintly and halted his steps.
It was not in vain that Su Jinyan had deliberately spared Shen Hai's life. Now that his purpose had been served, there was no longer any need to keep him around.
Shen Hai had fulfilled his mission admirably; it was time for him to rest.
Su Jinyan lowered his voice and said, "My apologies."
"The evidence you hid in your safe has long been in my possession."
"Your email account was cracked ages ago."
"The roster of Disciples of Sanctus Medicus, their secret hideouts within Luofu, precious medicinal formulas..."
"I won't let your painstaking efforts go to waste; I will certainly make good use of them."
Shen Hai's pupils contracted sharply, and his body began trembling uncontrollably.
A chilling flash tore through him.
His eyes glazed over as he collapsed entirely within the Conclave Hall.
"Do you remember your brother, Shen He?"
"Just like him, both of you deserved your fate."
These were the last words Shen Hai heard before death claimed him.
Yet even until his dying breath, Shen Hai could never comprehend who Shen He was. As an orphan with neither father nor mother, lacking guidance from childhood, he had fallen into sin. But what about Shen He? Could it be that Shen He's sins were even greater than his own?
At the Divination Commission's Conclave Hall, Qingque's lovely eyes were unfocused, her delicate body trembling involuntarily.
She couldn't comprehend why A-Yan would do such a thing.
Everything had unfolded too abruptly—it wasn't at all what they had planned together.
Was it because the diviner rejected his prediction report that he deviated from their agreed course? Was this what "it aligns perfectly with my intentions" truly meant?
Qingque's thoughts tangled into chaos, impossible to untangle. What should have been easily understandable now made no sense to her.
Why did A-Yan suddenly erupt in violence and murder?
Why did Shen Hai accuse him of being one of the Abundance Remnants, secretly trained by the Medicine King?
Weren't they supposed to be close friends?
Tingyun slapped herself lightly, shock evident in her eyes. "Qingque, is this the surprise you mentioned?"
"I didn't know..." Qingque murmured. "It wasn't supposed to happen like this. A-Yan promised me."
Su Jinyan moved deliberately, causing everyone in his path to hastily step aside, none daring to obstruct him. Only Tingyun and Qingque remained unyielding.
As he approached Tingyun, Su Jinyan offered a faint smile. "I did promise you, after all, that I would hold each person who harmed you accountable, slowly settling our debts."
"Shen Hai is just one among many; I'll settle accounts with the rest in due time."
Tingyun's gentle gaze softened as she caressed his cheek. "Please have faith, Benefactor," she said. "Even if no one else believes in you, this humble servant will steadfastly stand by your side."
"Now that you've violated the Ten-Lords Commission's laws, please do not evade arrest by the Judges," she continued. "It would only exacerbate your perceived guilt."
"This humble servant will spare no effort and utilize all available connections to secure your release."
