Chapter 11: Chapter 11: On the Importance of Aliases
Beneath the heavy traveler's cloak emerged a maiden's beautiful countenance. Her straight black hair was slightly disheveled, with a few strands falling across her face. The wanderer, who had traversed thousands of miles, smiled while asking if she could rest here.
Her demeanor was serene and peaceful, yet carried a hint of joyful mirth. Her delicate features made her seem like a celestial spirit drifting through the mortal realm. It was a beauty that existed only in fantasy.
The artist who drew the character card must have been possessed by the God of Art - the original artwork could easily be auctioned as a masterpiece in the Eastern Territory.
Regardless of the character's combat potential, this card deserved the highest rarity rating based on aesthetics and character design alone.
Naturally, Milo was moved. His usually composed expression froze for a moment, and he couldn't suppress the urge to grab the designer and give them a thorough "greeting" in a dark room.
With his already clenched fist, he wanted to give the designer's abdomen a close, intimate "greeting."
Damn it, this inconsiderate designer had created his female version card! That irresponsible person hadn't even bothered to change the name much!
Night Record Keeper • Mira... Milo stared at the name in silence, realizing for the first time how wise it was to use an alias when arriving in unfamiliar places.
If he hadn't been young and naive enough to use his real name back then, he wouldn't have to bear this embarrassment that only he understood.
Milo, Mira - while these names might be distinguishable in the Empire, in this chaotic region's vernacular, it was essentially like changing Atoris to Atoris - a feminine transformation.
Moreover, Mira's appearance was largely based on his state from four or five years ago. In this situation, Milo's heart was far from calm. He felt like eating the designer's heart raw with sauce!
The turmoil in his heart didn't show much on his face - at least from Miss Jessica's perspective, Mr. Tom Riddle had only frozen for a moment.
Her own reaction was much more dramatic.
"Is this for real?" She leaned forward in amazement, and finding it still too far, left her seat to circle around to Milo's side for a closer look, her voice barely containing her excitement. "It's actually Miss Mira! Your luck is off the charts!"
"Hey, Tom, can we make a deal? How about selling this account to me?" Miss Jessica suddenly asked with a serious expression, her hand restlessly poking at Miss Mira on the screen, causing the cloaked maiden to shy away uncomfortably.
"First of all, wasn't this originally yours..." Milo's voice carried a hint of weariness. "Second, is this character really that important?"
"First, what I gave you is yours now, and besides, you pulled the card yourself, I can't just take it," Miss Jessica replied earnestly, though she quickly reverted to her excited state. "Plus, I absolutely adore Miss Mira. Even after being absent for six consecutive volumes, she still maintains her top-ten popularity ranking on the official 14th Era charts as everyone's beloved wife!"
"Isn't it excessive to invest so much energy in a fictional character?" Milo said, his voice stuttering slightly, appearing surprised by Miss Jessica's behavior.
In reality, watching Jessica's extraordinary fondness for his feminized version, he felt that fate's sense of humor was simply too cruel.
"No, you don't understand. A virtual character's value depends on the emotions we invest in them. All consumption in this regard can be seen as purchasing emotional value," Jessica shook her head. "Not to mention how attractive Miss Mira's character design and illustration are, the key point is that we're practically twins!"
She gestured for Milo to look. "The hair color, eye color, personality traits, and even certain little habits - it's like another version of me in this world!"
Milo put on a cold face. Could it be... that black hair and black eyes weren't exactly a rare combination? Besides, those little habits were mostly practical techniques with hardly any personal characteristics!
Milo was extremely weary, and had nothing to say.
But he was prepared to reject this proposal.
...If she was already this hands-on now, he didn't dare imagine what Jessica would do once she got the card.
Even though he'd been playing this game for less than ten minutes, Milo had already discovered that the game's character interaction system was extraordinarily rich in content, complete with a real-time AI calculation system. In short, there were many, many possible interactions.
In theory, with enough determination and patience, Miss Jessica could pose the character in one hundred and eight different positions.
Currently, the only obstacle preventing this theoretical possibility from becoming reality was that Jessica didn't have Mira.
As the holder of the final key in this process, Milo's choice was naturally to refuse. Although he was reluctant to acknowledge his connection to the Mira character, he couldn't possibly stand by and watch his feminized card being played with.
Even if the other party was a girl, it wasn't acceptable!
"You should try pulling for her yourself," Milo declined diplomatically, only to hear Jessica snort.
"If I could pull her myself, would I need to ask you?" She cast a helpless glance at Milo, sighing: "Not to mention that this game only allows premium currency for card cultivation but not for pulling cards, and how difficult it is to get the corresponding level summoning stones... even if you get an orange card summoning stone..."
"The card pulling system even considers compatibility!" At this point, even the usually elegant and composed Jessica became agitated, clearly having been frustrated by this bizarre mechanism. "The game server has been embedded with high-ranked, massive-scale mystical arrays. Some cards have literally zero drop rates!"
"That just means you and that card weren't meant to be," Milo replied wearily. "I suggest you don't force it."
"Then can you not be so rigid?" Miss Jessica's beautiful eyes stared unblinkingly at Milo, her voice particularly sincere. She even activated an auxiliary mystical art to enhance her persuasiveness.
If it had been any other request, Milo might have agreed right away, but handing over his feminized card for someone else to do whatever they wanted with was absolutely out of the question.
Intricate mystical arrays woven from light surrounded Milo, clearing away all effects.
"Let's talk about what you plan to play next," he awkwardly changed the subject.
