chapter 12
Chapter 3. Anyway, I don’t think it’s my fault (1)
At the time John was walking through the forest of transmission towers. Office of the 8th National Military Police Special Task Force Commander.
Intelligence chief Leticia took a stance. She seemed to have returned to her days as an executive candidate, but she couldn’t look disheveled in front of the new special mission leader.
On top of that, the newly appointed head of the department stayed up for two full nights, saying, ‘I have to finish figuring things out quickly to correct the turbulent atmosphere.’
But what about Leticia? Even though she got off work early and slept soundly, her face was red. She’s on her way to overturn the intelligence department after hearing about what happened last night from the watchman.
She said, ‘Hout’s bag was stolen? If something like that happened, I wouldn’t have to report it!’
‘Ha, but the new headmaster told me not to tell it! Open her eyes ‘like this’… !’
The new manager, who said he stayed up all night, is reviewing the report in an undisturbed manner.
Yesterday, ‘You must have been working hard, so go and rest today. Don’t get in touch with anyone.’ He even sent himself back home. He was kind for a Römer, but in the end he was a ‘Rømer’.
‘Yes. This is how the adjutant is disciplined, right?’
Leticia is from the Dominion of Elza. It’s a Dominion, as she likes to say it, but it’s actually the eastern half of the Elsa Republic, which was ruled by Römer.
She was scolded by the people of Elsa for being trash and called a second-class citizen by the people of Roemer, and the only way to survive was to study.
So she studied tenaciously, developed her stamina, and entered the Eastern Military Academy of Elza. She entered an elite training class and with excellent grades, she was given the rank of intelligence officer after graduation.
It was her pride that she had come this far on her own, and it was also the driving force behind her enduring trashy superiors.
When the war broke out, she naturally became a soldier in Römer. She and she now became the occupier and ruler of the motherland.
Thanks to that, she won’t be called ‘Roemer scum’ in the face anymore. Instead, graffiti was written on the door and windows of the apartment she lives in, but none of that has disappeared since her zombie apocalypse.
‘Anyway, he’s Elsa. What are you doing?’
Even if you do the same job, you are always discriminated against. Her superiors from Römer always stole her credit.
‘What. No? Discharge, then.’
Leticia acted like a normal Elsa. She doubled the work. It was the only way she could give what she gave and take what she had to take.
In the end, she was right. The old ones were quickly disappearing, but she kept getting promoted. Now she has become a full-fledged intelligence officer. In a situation where it was not even a wartime rank, this kind of promotion was truly unprecedented.
So when Leticia was told that she was getting a new makeover, she wasn’t upset.
Although she was disappointed that the new leader was from an aristocratic family in Römer, younger than herself but of a higher rank, and that her military career was kept secret and questionable, she realized that her original life was unfair. Because I have acquired it.
And as expected. For a few days she seems to be doing well, but today she is trying to discipline herself.
‘A soldier in the right spirit to go home before the mission is over. I stayed up all night for two days. Did you sleep well? And now I forgot my bag. This is why Elza is from…’
Listening to her level of nagging was the scenario she thought of.
‘All paratroopers, old or young, are like that. Are you from a noble family? What good is that. Whether it’s burnt or not, all the trash is there.’
As long as it happened like this, Leticia vowed not to take advantage of her weakness. Taking an immobile posture like a recruit was part of that.
It is to avoid being treated as mean by saying, ‘What is the attitude of reporting to your superiors?’.
‘…The hoot gun should have worked.’
Leticia was discouraged. The hoot gun was her project. To target a weak terrorist and bring down the entire organization in one fell swoop. But even that plan went awry. The bag suddenly disappears.
‘Because I’m out of luck, how can I not be like this…’
Leticia wanted to surrender. Yes. Yes. After listening to it roughly and leaving, she worked hard again, drank and slept to her heart’s content. That was her plan.
At last Virginia Halford put down the papers.
“Yes. Intelligence officer. What do you think?”
Of course, it was about a guy selling bags.
“He is skilled, crafty, and sly. However, I judged that he was not a radical element belonging to the Elsa Liberation Movement.”
“Please explain.”
Leticia was indignant at her sullen answer. ‘You wrote it all down in the report, you stupid human!’ She wanted to throw out. But, like an elite officer, she didn’t show her irritation.
“From an objective point of view, the capacity of the bag carrier ‘Hut’ is excellent. Mini Bell Village is the deepest and most insignificant place among non-human sanctuaries.
By the way, Hut made it across the non-human sanctuary for a week and didn’t even get infected.
Of course, it is true that Hoot has been disheveled lately. Because of that, Elsa’s liberation movement was also keeping a close eye on Hoot.
However, it was ‘concern’ for a comrade who had fought together for a long time, not ‘monitoring’ for mission capabilities or possible betrayal. So the odds of attaching a watcher or a tracker are low.”
“Go ahead.”
“If Hut’s competence had been doubted, I would have rather ordered someone else. But Hans, the head of the branch, did not. He just left the job to Hut.
Considering these points, it is unlikely that the bag seller V is ‘an additional member of the liberation movement dispatched by Hans in case Huth betrays him.'”
A moment of silence.
Virginia sighed.
“…If that’s all, it’s pretty disappointing.”
For a person who says he’s disappointed, his face hasn’t changed. It seemed like a completely different world. Her stomach was boiling, but Leticia remained calm.
“If there were any deficiencies in my report, I will immediately reinforce them… !”
She was truly elite in that she didn’t shut her mouth up. Because Virginia Helford had withstood the slight tilt of her head and opening her eyes ‘like this’.
A sparkling silver blonde. White skin. Purple eyes that seem to attract you the more you look at them. The golden mouth of the shaded window.
She’s already within 300, so she’s sharp, but she even put black lipstick on her lips.
It was like a really threatening ‘snake’.
‘Who? Virginia Halford? Ah, the white viper? Let your notoriety sleep. Calm down, you’re a crazy woman. I heard you can’t find such a strong woman even in the capital.’
‘Did you hear that rumor? When she was young, she was bitten by a poisonous snake that an assassin had released, and she bit off the snake’s head and chewed it carefully to become that little girl. And then she finally overcame the deadly poison. Me? They say it’s because her skin and hair are white and her eyes are purple.’
She must be a girl from an aristocratic family with a bad temper, Leticia thought.
But it wasn’t. The opponent in front of her was truly a ‘venomous snake’. She is a predator who has been raised to rule since childhood. An aristocrat who gained strength by consuming and devouring his own kind.
Virginia took her breath away. Leticia caught her breath. The air was pleasant.
“Intelligence Chief. Time is our greatest asset. Even more so at this moment when an infectious disease is spreading.
So I don’t want you to repeat the report you prepared with great care in the future. I’m not old enough to forget what I just read. Are you younger than you?”
“Sorry. I will correct it.”
“However, for this time, let alone the flow of the world, I will judge that I have become accustomed to the wrong work habits and move on because I am serving a stupid boss who can not read letters. And when I asked, ‘What do you think?’, I meant to tell you what you think, which is not written down in this report.”
“…?”
Leticia looked at Virginia with a slightly puzzled look. Fortunately, the new special mission leader kindly added.
“Maybe new information came in after writing it. There must have been some ideas that I couldn’t come up with while writing.
I can’t leave it as an official document like this, but I’m asking you to tell me the analysis that will be accumulated from your experience so far. It doesn’t matter if it’s a weak intuition.
Tell me all the probabilities, prospects and scenarios you can anticipate. It doesn’t matter if your imagination is added, as long as it’s plausible.”
Leticia was taken aback. She did. But it was the kind of thing she wouldn’t mind if she said it openly and was shot dead.
‘But can I really tell you? To a human being who has embodied filial piety to his family, loyalty to his country, and obedience to the military since childhood.’
Leticia hesitated. It was the expression of a person holding back his words. Normally she would never have, but Virginia looked at her ‘like this’, and once she had seen her, she couldn’t keep her calm.
Fortunately, Virginia didn’t look at her hesitant men again. Instead she laughed.
“… Leticia intelligence officer. You’ve been working with an incompetent boss all this time, have you become fit? I heard that you are from the elite officer corps of the Eastern Military Academy of Elza, which was carefully nurtured in Römer. Am I wrong?”
“No.”
“Then what is that hesitation? Are you looking for an excuse because you pointed out that you hadn’t thought about anything? Or are you hesitant to report, judging that I am no different from my predecessor?”
Leticia’s stomach swelled again. Pressing her lips together, she made her decision.
“I think information leaked from our upper echelon.”
Virginia looked at Leticia, her stump. She waited for Leticia.
“So?”
Because it seemed that her emotions would really come out this time, Leticia paused for a moment.
“I’m not sure what you mean.”
“I bet. Because you’re lying.”
“Captain. Please correct that statement.”
Leticia’s face hardened. She couldn’t stand being scolded for being incompetent. It was something she had always heard from her superiors. She’s used to being heard, stupid b*tch Elsa.
But you’re a liar.
“There have been times when I have submitted false reports due to my lack of competence. Of course there have been times when I have made wrong inferences based on insufficient information. But I take pride in serving faithfully in any situation. I have never reported a report knowing that it was false. Is.”
“Really?”
For some reason, Virginia’s ridicule grew thicker. Her resentment was all the way to her throat, but Leticia tried hard not to be shaken.
“If you decide that I am not fit for the position of Chief Intelligence Officer, please give me a personnel order. I will be loyal no matter what position I occupy. But that does not mean I am admitting a crime I did not commit. I did not lie.” .”
Virginia snorted. She even tapped the desk with her fingers.
“I’d say that. You’re deceiving yourself right now. You’re so used to lies that you don’t even know you’re lying. I can see it, but you can’t see it?”
Boom! Virginia slammed her stack of papers into the palm of her hand.
“All the records of your activities, the progress of all the operations you participated in, the reports you posted, the analysis data, and the plans. I read them all while staying up all night last night. I can understand that the next elite officer training program has been successfully completed.
Even in his home country, it is rare to have such an active, bold, and feasible strategy. But, oddly enough, it has never been put into practice. It must have been because the seniors who didn’t like adventure were sitting with their bosses, right?
It was almost a miracle that the proposal to ‘attack weak chains’ and to psychologically attack ‘Hoot’, who was a terrorist executive of the Elza Liberation Movement but was tired, was passed.
Wasn’t it one of the proposals that the former head of the team pushed through to show that he wasn’t just playing and eating because he was being audited for negligence and s*xual harassment? He was a lousy bastard, but his men were lucky. As a result, terrorism was prevented.”
Leticia was confused. She couldn’t tell if she wanted to compliment her, or if she was pulling her up by the collar to push her off a cliff. Virginia continued her words in her cold voice.
“The ethos of the military has not changed much since the war. ‘Move according to plan, but don’t miss the opportunity to make a major contribution. Act boldly, make courageous decisions, and think wisely.’
The weak link strategy plan contained all of this. If the superior had been a little more competent, no, a mediocre commander, the results would have been much better. He doesn’t disparage what you’ve done so far. That is unfair Rather, it should be highly evaluated.”
‘What’s the matter?’
If I could, I wanted to hang myself by the collar. Virginia picked up her pack of cigarettes and tossed them down the road at her, brushing her loose bangs. In the shadows around her eyes, purple eyes were terrifying.
“But there is one thing missing from you. There is something very important and crucial, nothing that should be there. So I have decided that you are lying to yourself and to me. What do you think it is?”
“I was only halfway through.”
“No. Not that. Is there really anything else?”
Now I feel like I am receiving tutoring. ‘If you’re old enough, think with your head now!’ Like that.
“…Sorry, I don’t know.”
“Intelligence Chief.”
Now it’s a tone to soothe a child.
“Intelligence chief Leticia. You know I didn’t ask you to hear that. ‘Weak link attack’ didn’t mean that much to you.
It was not a mechanical execution of orders from above, but a plan that you raised with enthusiasm, taking into consideration all your own judgment, analysis, and feasibility. Like the many wasteful proposals that have been ignored until now.
But a person with that kind of ability left out something really important, something a person should have. I don’t understand why you don’t know that. Really don’t know Should I point out all of this?”
“I didn’t anticipate the unexpected variable. I never thought that someone would steal the bag.”
After finishing her answer, Leticia hesitated.
There was something strange in Virginia’s eyes. Leticia was terrified, but she couldn’t take her eyes off her.
It was like hypnosis. A beautifully swirling little snake slowly turned inside its pupil.
But it’s much more dangerous than that. Virginia whispered like a snake sticking out its tongue.
“Aren’t you angry?”
“…Woo, are you talking about it?”
The eyes are the mirror of the heart. A strange color flowed from Virginia’s eyes. Courage? Wisdom? Avarice? No. Madness
Leticia realized. Those are the eyes of a madman. The moment I saw it, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s not normal.’ It is an eye that should have been avoided earlier.
“Are you really angry, angry, anger, I have to teach me? I was angry with my head last night and I couldn’t sigh. How madly angry must I be about this, my blood gushes backwards like this even when I read the report!”
Virginia slammed her desk with her fist. There was a ripping sound of her thunder and the desk was smashed. It was a desk made of steel, bent into the shape of a fist. Her blood dripped from her torn hands, but her complexion did not change.
“Everything, Captain, cow, hand… Chi, from treatment….”
” ‘You mean angry?’ Called? Are you saying you don’t know what it is? What about that subject? To be honest? Can I be honest with you! Sounds funny. Bullsh*t!
A ‘smart’ lieutenant who has no ambition or greed, who doesn’t get angry even when his work is taken away, and resigns like everyone else, speaks frankly? Are you telling me to believe it!
She didn’t know anything. She went to work this morning and was told that all her hard work was gone, but she stood there dumbfounded. I’m talking about your business, Leticia! I’m talking about your lesson!
Yeah, did you like being robbed like that? I mean, did you like the life of prostrate yourself and dedicate your life’s work to the strong like Elsa’s slave bastards!”
“No!”
Leticia’s large breasts throbbed. Even her tears were a bit young. Her belated sadness, which she did not even know was suppressed, overflowed. She gritted her teeth as if she would explode if she held back any longer.
“Leticia intelligence chief. Are you from Elsa or Römer!”
“I-I…!”
“Speak loudly! Don’t mumble!”
“It’s from Römer!”
“Is Roemer a master or a slave?”
“I am the owner!”
“Then act like a master!”
Virginia jumped up and slammed her desk with her fists. The legs of her gear nose were smashed and thrown out, and the bent iron plate crashed into the floor.
A loud noise was heard in the hallway. It seems that the onlookers have gathered. But no one dared to open the door and come in.
“It doesn’t matter where you were born, what education you got, even who your parents were! It doesn’t matter if you were a former master or a slave! If you act like a master, a slave becomes a master. A slave who behaves like a slave doesn’t deserve to be a master!
Leticia, Leticia Intelligence Chief! Find out Find out which bastard dared to take your share, catch it and tear it apart. Whether you belong to another government agency, a Western spy, an information dealer, or even a senator from your home country, never mind.
Never open your eyes again and don’t be deprived of what you have, Leticia! Even if the opponent is me! Did you understand!”
“Okay!”
“Then go find it! Find it, report it, and bring it in front of me. I’ll tear it to death with my own hands and throw it as Zombie Bob! Don’t salute, run out right now! One o’clock is urgent!”
Leticia stormed out as if kicking her door. Soldiers and officers who filled the corridor all at once retreated. But none of them dared to speak to Leticia, and none came in to clean up her smashed desk.
“You dare….”
Virginia looked out her window, wildly lighting a cigarette with her bloody hands.
‘Bag seller.’
She had already given an answer as to who it was.
This is the work of an agent. Whoever touches the gendarmerie, whoever interferes with the duties assigned by the Holy Council, will be uprooted.
Other government agencies of the Republic of Romer. Those who want to steal the ball from the military police.
It was clear. Except for those guys. Unless it falls from the sky or rises from the ground, it cannot be someone else. Otherwise, how could the bag be intercepted based on the information reported only to the upper management?
