chapter 29
Chapter 4. Lambert Drive (完)
“Get down, get down.”
Muttered Camilla like a broken doll. The rifle man collapsed forward. With both hands on her steering wheel and her feet on the pedals, she falls over and presses the Clarkson.
“No. No no!”
Boom. Boom. Boom! Everyone screamed at the harsh vibration. Tire wheel. Both the left front and rear wheels were blown out.
The fire truck tilted in an instant. The water in the water tank rushed sharply and tilted sideways in an instant. Camilla’s world spun around. Painful. Sticky It was dizzy.
Something hit Camilla in the head. She cried out in her mortal, but bearable, pain. Please someone put an end to this. I wish this pain would stop.
As if her desperation had worked, she hit her head again with something. It was a much stronger blow than before, but she didn’t hurt. Instead, her eyes closed and her world darkened.
* * * * *
One foot.
It was a sound that could not come from a pistol. It sounded like it would come from a cannon, not a pistol. Still, Virginia did not move, and fired lightly as if it were a toy pistol.
Maybe it wasn’t right. At first, obviously, everyone thought so. Or that it was impossible to pierce the bulletproof plate and bulletproof glass at once with that ignorant pistol bullet. After all, it’s a monstrous fire engine.
Two feet.
Red blood splattered on the glass window. The driver’s head was blown off, which was also seen here. Even so, that tough fire truck moves forward.
Three feet. Four feet. Five feet.
The wheels of the fire engine were also protected by bulletproof plates. The exposed part is about 1/4. No matter how big the wheels of a fire truck are, it’s difficult to hit them with a pistol at this distance, even in a chopper that rocks up and down.
But Virginia did it. Didn’t miss a single step. She popped it like a needle pricked a balloon. The fire engine, with all the left wheels blown out at once, tilted and skidded sideways.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t crush the van. When the first shot hit, the van had already run far ahead. He was a quick-witted guy.
“V digs into the gang.”
He was doing something reckless, going up against the gang. After all, there are only zombies. It’s like going to die on your own.
The gangsters are already insane. The one who was still alive couldn’t even look at the helicopter. Either they fire bullets at the zombie hordes in vain and destroy themselves, or they move around and collide with each other.
Among those guys, the black van savagely slipped away. Rather, it seems that the gang is involved in the movement of the van.
“Damn it….”
But when I got close, rifle bullets flew. Since I shot while lying down earlier, I can understand it. Even with the driver behind the wheel, this level of hit rate is bizarre.
Papak!
“Oh, really! Damn you!”
The bullet also lodged in the co-pilot’s canopy. It’s near the ankle, so it wouldn’t be fatal even if it hit, but the psychological pressure was enough.
Leticia shot the ceiling of the van with her rifle, but it didn’t go through. The words 『Emergency Cash Transport Vehicle』 Shimmered like medicine.
“Wait a minute.”
Before he could answer, Virginia’s gun snapped across his nose. Leticia flinched back at the imprint of her writhing snake. A crown was placed on the snake’s head, and small letters were engraved on it.
This is the language of Römer. Leticia read what that meant at once. She is Elsa, but she wanted to be Römer, because Römer was no different from her mother tongue.
Tung.
There is a hole in the ceiling of the driver’s side of the van. It seemed to have worked, as the van slammed on the brakes. Like this, six feet.
The van slowed down, then turned 180 degrees. Unfortunately, the overthrow did not happen.
“Did you catch it?”
Leticia thought that the captain had said something he shouldn’t have said. She thought again that she should get rid of the ominous thoughts, but by then the thoughts had already become reality.
The van didn’t stop. She was in reverse, having swerved.
“You look like a terrible bastard.”
* * * * *
“Wow, wow! And! What a crazy b*tch, that one!”
I really didn’t expect to get a bullet between my crotch. No, rather than this. It is a special bullet. A fraudulent weapon that only bosses bring with them, but with a decent sniper rifle performance.
“… Is that woman the boss, then?”
That silver-haired woman. It’s awful. It’s very boring. I was surprised that a helicopter flew in, but they even threw a grenade at me. It’s ridiculous. If I hadn’t been lucky enough to get it right, it probably would have ended.
Fortunately, the minigun doesn’t shoot. No matter how strong this car is, it wouldn’t have been able to handle it if it had been scratched with a minigun. The same goes for rockets.
“This can’t go on like this.”
The gangsters swish around. It doesn’t matter because they seem to have already tasted it, but the problem is zombies.
To be honest, even now there is no windshield, so the wind blows in as it is. But what if you run into a zombie? It’s going to be a human drive-thru.
“… Really, this is a joke.”
There was a time when I was deeply moved by a killer movie that destroyed the world after losing my dog and house, so I only drove in reverse for a while.
Ah, of course within the Erysicton Protocol. In real life, I’m staggering, and if I walk backwards, I can’t even walk three steps and I stumble, but as long as I hold the keyboard and mouse, I’m a man-in-the-middle-class woman, Schumacher.
“Hey, uh, uh, uh uh uh uh?”
It was good to turn the steering wheel, but the car tilts and tilts. I move my hips at the edge and lean in to balance somehow. If you fall like this, you really die. Die!
… Thud!
Wow. I’m so glad The boxes in the luggage compartment slid all the way to balance. It reminded me of Cassandra’s chest, which had been shaking while carrying her luggage. The regret of having to survive as a pet human comes to me as I am just shaking my heart. Erai’s ass.
“… What. I’ll see you again when the kite arrives. If you live here.”
Ugh! The van spits out strange sounds as if it’s stifling, but the rear listens well again, perhaps because it’s tired of being driven forward so much.
Of course, we can’t keep going like this. If you run into a zombie, the car will slow down, and if the car slows down and gets stuck, I’m on the road to takeaway food.
Getting past the things that get in your way. The speed doesn’t have to be that high. As an anomaly, all you have to do is keep moving. One foot, one foot. Hit the zombie’s head at regular intervals.
As expected. Zombies don’t just come forward randomly. Around the fallen guys, iron powder gathers like a magnet.
Cautiously backing away, I fired one shot after another. Eventually, something like a dam came into existence. An embankment made out of hordes of rattling zombies.
That mass blocked the waves.
The zombies that were not blocked by the embankment still only ran forward. When the rubber membrane is pulled, a gap is created in the enveloping net, as if the rim is torn.
I changed the gear to forward again and stepped on it vigorously.
* * * * *
Virginia watched the van move with her eyes wide open. There was still one shot left on the revolver’s seven-shot drum. The muzzle slid along the van, then came to a halt. He has finished aiming. Leticia thought it would be a hit this time too.
“… You ran out of bullets.”
But Virginia retracted her gun.
‘Isn’t there one shot left?’ Other military police soldiers seemed to have the same question, but none were brave enough to ask the question.
“Intelligence Chief. What do you think? The author’s strategy.”
“… You seem to be good at dealing with zombies. Instead of shooting aimlessly, they formed a shield with clear intentions of uniting the zombie horde. And… It’s getting out. But still within range of the minigun and rockets.”
The minigun shooter also finished aiming. He could catch anything if he gave the order. But instead of giving orders, Virginia asked questions.
“Commander, how is the situation? Are you relaxed enough to track down the author?”
“No. Oil leaks little by little. When I think of clearing out the remaining zombies and escorting the Centers for Disease Control, even now, it’s a bit dangerous!”
“What about firepower?”
“One of Angel 4’s rocket pods went out, so it’s a little bit tricky.”
“Then give up the chase. Proceed as usual. Preached to Angels in Pale Rider. Proceed as usual. Escort CDC personnel to the Hamptons, group the zombies together and destroy them. Angel 11 focuses on hunting down the fallen group in the wasteland. More.”
The minigun breathes fire. The rifleman calmly aims for the zombie’s head and shoots it. Where you want to be crowded, fire grenades and grenades.
Rockets smashed and burned hordes of zombies with whips of flame. Zombies didn’t even run away. Even when his own limbs were ripped off, he somehow managed to crawl and try to bite the body of someone who had fallen next to him.
Even as she raised her rifle and fired, Leticia glanced sideways at Captain Virginia. The captain was still watching the van moving away. The corners of his mouth moved, and it was difficult to tell whether he was holding back a laugh or holding back his words.
But the eyes seemed more alive than ever.
“Leticia.”
“Yes.”
“I was careless.”
“… What are you talking about all of a sudden?”
“I need to revise my evaluation of Elza Inn. Not all Elza people are weak idiots. Even if they are cowardly and perform tricks, there are some people who are shrewd. Oh, that has nothing to do with you. You are from Römer.”
“…Thank you for your consideration. What you just said was about V, right?”
“If I return, I will have to find out more about the moderate Elsa. I’ll have to track it down some more. A moderate member of the Elsa intelligence department who was said to have gone underground. If V is at that level….”
Virginia smiled brightly.
“Looks like you can have fun in this land.”
* * * * *
The helicopter has left. A feast of miniguns and rockets unfolded in the back. It seems that he didn’t waste it on me to pour his firepower into it.
“I lived. f*ck.”
Last time I checked, the playtime was well over 1,100 hours. There were many times when I felt depressed and sad thinking that I had changed my life, but not now.
If it wasn’t for that wasted life, I wouldn’t have been able to shoot the flying grenade with my gun, and I wouldn’t have been able to penetrate the zombie wave relatively easily.
“… Still, it’s worth doing.”
Fortunately, the tactics I learned and mastered work. When it comes to life in the wasteland, nothing is difficult. Hunger was a bit of a problem, but if you do as Cassandra said, it might be different.
Rather, the problem lies elsewhere. World I don’t know. Half of the world not yet destroyed.
If you want to sell the jewels you stuffed in your bag, you have to meet someone anyway. You have to get a PC or laptop to unlock USB data, so there are many things to find and many things to meet.
It would have been better if it had been a completely destroyed world, so it would have been better if the network for those who had perished had already been established. Because I know how to use the network.
But not here. You have to learn, you have to learn. There is still a lot to know and bump into… No, I don’t know anything else, but I need to get a new car. My eyes are sore from driving a car with a broken windshield.
The guns, ammunition, and food crates in the back rattle as if agreeing. Even the bag Barbie doll thrown on the passenger seat floor looks refreshing.
There are many things to do, and many things to take care of. There are many places to visit and places to visit.
But there is no rush.
Whistling and driving through the wilderness in a van with a broken window doesn’t sound too bad.
A zombie looms in the distance. It seems to shake her hand. I was happy to lift the M4.
* * * * *
– Name.
– Römer asshole. Keugh!
– Again. Name.
– Roe, Roemer disease, asshole! Whoops…
– Name!
“Aagh!”
Camilla woke up from a nightmare.
My stomach turned over from constantly gagging. Her whole body was wet and full of her unpleasant smell. When she smelled it, her nausea rose again.
It’s the smell of tear gas.
“Ooooo!”
After being tortured with tear gas in a pool, I couldn’t even look at the pool. Just hearing the sound of flowing water gave me goosebumps. When I was dancing in the water, I felt more free than when I was on land, but now I feel like I am suffocating.
Roemer, and the puppet Elsa, took her life. The past. The present. And the future.
“Wake up.”
And now he took away even his comrades.
“Get up, wake up, please. Open my eyes… Eyes… “
No one stood up.
“… It’s my fault. I… Because I’m not being honest. I’m a hostage and what do I know, let’s just go back. If you said honestly. If so. You… You guys wouldn’t have died.”
More water poured in from the tear gas tank. Camilla jumped up with a sense of dread. As was her habit, she grabbed her rifle, raised her arms up, and threw her passenger door open.
“Oooh!”
She barely crawled out, her world showed only her cruelty. The smell of burning meat wafted from all sides of her. There was nothing but charred, dismembered, strewn zombie corpses.
“aaa!”
Even the sun seemed to fall on the horizon bleeding.
“aaa!”
Camilla looked up at the sky and howled.
“… Camilla?”
A hoarse voice. Camilla looked down at the ground. On a land that seemed to have more flesh and bloodstains than dirt and dust, I saw a cage that was bouncing around.
“… Camilla.”
Camilla, completely out of her fire engine, reloaded her rifle and handgun. Even with her squirming zombies, she wasn’t much of a threat. She moved closer to the cage.
“That’s it, that’s it.”
A zombie had a seizure on the other side of the cage. Her body was torn apart by minigun bullets, and her cage was not intact.
Even so, the zombie was just trying to devour the naked man opposite her. Her teeth are all broken, and her gums are pressed against the barbed wire, even as she drips blood.
“Hut.”
Hut’s appearance was difficult to look at.
“… Camilla. Big, hahahaha.”
“Why, did you betray, Hoot?”
“Keuhiik. Bae, betrayal? Flaw. hehehehe… The real ship, the traitor is Hans. Camilla.”
“What?”
“… Width. Bomb. Loud… “
Hut was becoming a zombie. The eyes glimmer, and the teeth clash. The belly skin swells up like a balloon and then shrinks. Already, I’m losing my reason.
“What are you talking about, the guy who ran away because he was afraid of explosives?”
“Kick. Kick kick kick… The bomb…. Got a virus You only heard the bomb, okay? Kick, kick kick… “
“What are you talking about?”
Hoot tilted his head back and shook his head in agony. Camilla wanted to pull out the hoot if she could. I wanted to hold on to it and tell them to throw up what the hell they were talking about.
“What are you talking about!”
“… All. I said everything. I, I said everything. Hideout. Hideout. Hans, how Hans tricked us! Camilla. Camilla. Camilla… “
“… Say.”
“Kill me.”
Hout was crying.
“Please, I don’t want to live as a zombie. Camilla. Please kill me know. I’m sick He’s an idiot who was tortured and spit out everything. But, by the way, you couldn’t spread the zombie virus in the city where people live. Because that wasn’t it.”
“It’s a lie. Hans said there was a bomb in it. Assassinate only the important factors… !”
“… Do you think Hans really wants that? No. Cool look, cool look! Don’t you believe me? I have proof, proof, on my phone. That video… That, the moment I saw that, I, I knew everything… OK… Alas, goddess of hunger… How… Aagh!”
Hut’s lips went dry. It bit the wire mesh like a nasty dog. But his eyes were still full of tears as he looked at Camilla.
Camilla raised her pistol. The silencer did its job. Hut died with a smile. Camilla sighed and sat down.
The dead Hut. Zombies still roaring. I looked alternately at the fire truck that had fallen over.
Yeah.
A zombie crawled over. The lower half of his body had been blown away. Camilla drooled as if it were a delicious special.
The muzzle spewed fire. Fluff. Zombie fell. Camilla got wet and took off her balaclava. The red hair resembling the setting sun is brilliant.
Where should I go?
I saw a parked motorcycle. In the sea of flesh, it was upright, whole, and still radiant like an idol. ‘Catch me.’ It seemed as if the devil had thrown it from heaven.
Sure.
I looked around with the scope of my rifle. Beyond the corpses strewn about like rubbish washed up on the beach, you could see the deep ruts of ruts in the wasteland. Only that was straight in a world that was disheveled.
On impulse, Camilla jumped on the motorcycle. Her key was already in. She accepted the new owner, and the motorcycle was rather lighthearted.
The torso had a very uncool name written on it, ‘the one who invites war’. You can scrape it off later with a knife. Thought Camilla. The motorcycle moved forward vigorously.
‘Cell phone.’
Hoot’s cell phone was said to be owned by V. And if you follow these ruts, you can meet V.
Camilla had many things she wanted to ask him. Who the hell are you what kind of life have you lived How did you get out of that situation?
And maybe she can teach her her way.
The motorcycle with its back against the evening sunset went against the lonely wilderness and was sucked into deep, deep darkness.
