How to Love a Night Fury how to train your dragon

Chapter 49: Of Mates and Vengeful Ones (Part 5)

Stoick got back to the hut rather late once the celebration came to an end. As he entered, Sharpshot lifted his tired head and crooned sleepily in greeting at the chief.

Stoick chuckled and pet his head as he closed the door. "Thank you for the greeting Sharpshot. Go on back to sleep."

The Terrible Terror yawned and curled back up as the chief made his way upstairs to say goodnight to the two young adults that shared the hut with him.

Stoick knocked on the door as a warning, but he was surprised when the door opened from the first knock.

'That's odd..Hiccup and Kala never leave their bedroom door ajar..'

Stoick quietly made his way into the bedroom and looked around for the kids in question, but his eyes widened when he saw the state of their room.

It was an absolute disaster. There were sketches, blueprints and even knickknacks scattered about the place. The bed and Kala's stone slab were in shambles, showing clear signs of a struggle. There were claw marks all across the walls and floor as well as burn marks from plasma blasts.

"What in Thor's name..? Hiccup? Kala? You two in here?" Stoick asked as worry and fear slowly took hold of him.

He looked around the room when there was no reply, then took notice of the state of the window. The framing was torn up from claws as if Kala was struggling to keep from being dragged out of it. He ran his hand across some of the marks as it sunk in and his eyes widened.

"Odin help me.." He breathed out, then rushed out of the hut to look for the missing young adults.

He went from hut to hut asking each villager if they had seen Hiccup and Kala. Whenever he wasn't at a hut, he would shout out for the missing kids as he went through the village.

"Hiccup! Kala! Has anyone seen Hiccup and Kala?" He asked as he passed by villagers that were still out and about. "Hiccup! Kala!"

Snotlout goes over to the distraught chief when he exits the Jorgenson hut.

"What's going on chief?" The young Jorgenson asked.

"Have you seen Hiccup and Kala?" Stoick asked, worry very clear in his voice.

Snotlout shook his head, starting to get worried himself. "I haven't seen them since they went home for the night chief."

"Go get the other riders. We have to find them." Stoick ordered.

~~~HTLANF~~~
My eyes slowly fluttered open and I groaned, pain in the back of my head making itself known.
"Ow.." I groaned out, then once my eyes were focused I looked around. The area looked completely foreign. "Where in Akatosh's name am I..?"
I tried to move my arms to help me get up, but when I tried they didn't budge. I looked behind me and saw that my hands were bound together, then I noticed my legs were as well. I tried to pull my arms and legs apart, but the restraints did their job and kept me from even having an inch of space between them.
I looked around the room to see if there was anything I could use to cut the rope without having to resort to using a claw, but from where I was positioned I couldn't find anything.
I froze when I heard movement above me, knowing it must be the people who took me. Dust fell as they made their way across the ceiling boards, shadows seeping through as they passed. I collected myself and kept my breathing as calm as I could as they opened the door that was at the top of the stairs that led to the room I was in.
"Just throw her in. We've done all we could for now. They want her alive so that way the girl can finish her off." I heard one of the captors say.
"On it." The other said, then threw whoever they were talking about down into the room.
My eyes widened when I saw who it was.
"Kala!"
Kala was out cold and covered in wounds and bruises, her clothing completely ripped to shreds. It's a wonder they're still even intact enough to stay on her body. Her hair was matted and caked in dirt and her own blood and there was blood coming out of her lip and nose, cuts here and there on her beautiful face.
I whimpered as I tried to get out of the restraints to get to her, but once the door was closed behind the bounty hunters I had one of my claws appear and cut myself free of the ropes.
I rushed over to my mate and pulled her into my lap, wiping away the hair that I could to get a better look at the injuries on her face. "Oh Kala…what have they done to you..?"
She whined, clinging onto me but never awakening from her knocked out state. I held her close and thought over the situation, but anger slowly started to take hold.
Before I knew it, I had transformed into my dragon form holding Kala close to me with my legs and shielding her with my wings.
When the door to the room opened again, I looked up at the bounty hunters and growled fiercely at them.
They backed away with fear in their eyes.
"W-where did that Night Fury come from?!" One of them squeaked out.
"H-how should I know?! I was up here with you!" The other replied.
I roared at them and they screamed and slammed the door closed. I huffed and took the opportunity to get Kala safely on my back. It took some time since I was very wary of her injuries, not wanting to injure her further.
Once I was sure she wouldn't fall off, I rushed up the stairs and blasted down the door with a plasma blast, not even registering that it was the first time I successfully used one.
The bounty hunters jumped behind barrels as the debris from the now demolished door fell every which way upon the deck. I ignored them and shot into the air, checking on Kala once I was a safe distance away from the ship. She was still out cold and I could tell she wouldn't wake anytime soon.
'I need to get her to Gothi..' I thought as I focused on finding an area that looked somewhat familiar.
As I was looking around I heard an odd sound and looked towards where the sound came from. My eyes widened and I screeched as I tried to dodge the bola that was coming towards Kala and I, but I wasn't fast enough and got caught in it.
"Since Viggo's island is north, the bounty hunters should be heading in this direction." Fishlegs explained as he, Stoick and the other riders flew on their dragons in search of Hiccup and Kala, some worry in his words.
"We will find them, right?" Ruffnut asked, fearing for her friends.
"We will if it is the last thing we do, don't you worry." Stoick reassured her.
"The deep sea channel is calm this time of year, and cuts right through to Viggo's island." Heather chimed in as she took notice of the route that they're taking.
"Well then let's follow it! There is no way I'm letting my little cousin get taken by some wimpy bounty hunters!" Snotlout stated angrily as he and Hookfang got ahead of the group.
Stoick sighed. "Why didn't they tell me about the bounties?"
"It's Hiccup and Kala." Heather reasoned. "Sometimes they let their pride get the best of them."
"They didn't want to dampen the mood of the celebration either." Tuffnut added in.
"Yeah. Hiccup and Kala thought it wasn't the right time. Guess the bounty hunters thought otherwise." Ruffnut chided.
Stoick nodded then stopped Skullcrusher when he spotted a ship. "There it is. We got 'em now." He signaled the riders to follow him and they all landed on the ship and dismounted their dragons. "Search the rest of the ship. Leave no stone unturned. It's alright."
The others all nodded and were about to search the ship, but all of them stopped when they heard people talking.
"Push me up, Berthel!"
"How can I push you when I'm pullin' me?"
Stoick and the riders all looked at one another, then back in the direction of the voices as the two bounty hunters finally came into view and were able to make their way back onto the ship.
"Finally, we made it." One of them said, but they froze when weapons met their faces.
"Where are Hiccup and Kala?" Stoick asked them sternly.
"W-we don't have 'em anymore. The lad disappeared and the girl was carried off by a Night Fury. We swear!"
"What?" He asked, then looked at the riders. "Heather, Fishlegs. Could you search below deck for Hiccup and Kala?"
"On it." Heather said as she and Fishlegs went below deck.
"I don't think they're lying chief. The door to below deck is blown to bits." Ruffnut noted as she spotted bits of wood scattered about the deck and the remains of the door hanging on barely by the hinges.
Heather and Fishlegs came back a little while later.
"We searched the entire ship, but they're not here." Heather said dejectedly.
"The girl was carried off by the Night Fury I tell you! The thing blasted down the door and took to the sky not a second later with the girl atop its back!" The other bounty hunter explained to plead their case.
Stoick's eyes widened as he put it all together.
'Don't tell me that dragon is my son..'
He looked at Heather and Fishlegs, realizing they put it together as well.
"I call dibs on the other Night Fury when we find it!!" Snotlout exclaimed, clearly not getting that said Night Fury is his cousin.
"Aw man! I was gonna call dibs!" Tuffnut complained.
"Nu uh! I was!" Ruffnut retorted, which led to the twins fighting one another.
Stoick sighed and looked back at the bounty hunters. "Which direction was the Night Fury headed?"
"Last we saw, it looked like it was trying to find something familiar that was headed towards Berk, but it was shot down by Savage." The more intelligent of the bounty hunters explained to the chief.
Stoick nodded, then threw the bounty hunters off the ship, not really in the mood to hear anything else.
~~~HTLANF~~~

I growled at Savage as he tried to take Kala from me. Luckily he took the hint and let her be as he chained me up.

"That'll hold you, Night Fury. Haven't got the slightest clue where ya came from, but Viggo sure will be happy to get ya. And I know for a fact that the Hofferson girl will be happy to get her hands on that friend of yours." Savage said with a smirk.

I snapped my maw at him and he jumped back and laughed.

"Nice try, dragon. But I'm not gonna fall for that trick that easily."

I growled at him again, but stopped as I saw Throk come up behind Savage and knock him out. I crooned curiously as he approached Kala and I and freed me from my chains.

"It's alright. I am a friend of Kala's. I was sent by Mala to rescue her and Hiccup, but it seems that Hiccup is nowhere to be found. I am sure he will be happy to see you have protected his lover though." Throk explained as he released me.

I crooned in thanks once I was free and nudged him, signaling that I wanted help to get Kala onto my back again.

Throk chuckled and nodded in understanding. "Of course I shall help you, Night Fury." He said as he picked Kala up gently and laid her atop my back.

I purred softly as I felt her cling onto me the best she could in her weak state and I felt her relax from the vibrations of my purrs.

"There we are. Now let us get going before anyone else arrives." Throk stated as he ushered me to take flight, but before I could I had to jump away because of a masked figure.

The masked figure fought with Throk and lost, or so we thought. When we were about to leave Throk got shot with a blow dart and was knocked out. As I was just about to take off a stronger dart was shot and got me right in the neck, knocking me out cold.

~~~HTLANF~~~
Stoick had Savage lifted up by his tunic when they finally thought they caught up to Hiccup and Kala, anger seeping out of him after they found out the ship was yet again vacant of the young adults they have been searching for.
"Where is he taking Kala and the other Night Fury?" He asked, doing a decent job of keeping his voice even as he spoke.
"I don't know where they are. One minute I had been talking to the dragon after locking it up, and the next, I woke up and they were gone. I swear it." Savage explained fearfully, not wanting to anger the peeved chief any further.
"A masked Viking surprised me." Throk said as he approached Stoick. "He must have Kala and the other Night Fury."
"You let some random guy beat you?" Snotlout asked as he crossed his arms with a raised brow.
"He was very skilled." Throk reasoned.
"Where is he taking them?" Stoick asked again, starting to get impatient as he held Savage over the side of the ship, willing to drop him into the ocean.
"Wait! Wait! Sleipnir Island. Ryker is waiting there with the gold. I don't know what they're gonna do to Kala and that other dragon. It's their own fault they got grabbed, not mine." Savage retorted, not wanting to get beat up by Stoick the Vast.
Stoick glared a bit at Savage, then threw him down onto the deck. "Mount up riders!"
~~~HTLANF~~~

Once I was awake again I tried to fly away from the masked bounty hunter and get Kala back from him, but he used a chain to get me grounded again.

I growled at him and snapped my maw to try and get him to release me, but to no avail.

"Don't do that again, dragon. Or else this girl gets even more injured." The man threatened and I whined as my earplates fell against my head in worry. "That's what I thought."

Ryker approached us a minute later with his arms behind his back. "Finally. Wait. Where's Hiccup Haddock?" He asked.

I huffed in amusement. 'Oh this is too good. He thinks they only found Kala and a random ass Night Fury.'

"It seems that previous bounty hunters only succeeded in getting the girl and this other Night Fury. Now, the gold." The masked hunter requested.

"You didn't see it fit to get Hiccup Haddock before coming to me?" Ryker asked, a bit of anger slipping out with his words.

"That is correct. He will be of no threat to you now that you have his dragon, correct? You now also have a second Night Fury as well. Lucky you. Now give me the gold."

Ryker glared at the masked hunter. "There will be no gold until I have both Kala and Hiccup Haddock."

"Then there will be no trade." The masked hunter stated as he went to take Kala and I away again.

I growled and got free of the chain, running off and getting Kala from where the masked hunter left her.

"Hunters!" Ryker shouted, said hunters coming after me.

I roared at them and protected Kala as I sent plasma blasts at the hunters and swatted at them with my claws splayed out if they got too close to us.

The fighting came to a pause when there was fire thrown at the hunters surrounding Kala and I. I looked up and smiled when I noticed it was Hookfang that had done that.

"Yes! You guys came!" I screeched in joy as the others fought the hunters off.

"Well of course we did! You're our friends!" Windshear screeched as she sent a folly of her metallic spines at some airborne hunters like Heather instructed her.

As everyone was busy fighting the hunters and Ryker, I took the opportunity to get Kala to a safe place. I laid her down gently and looked over her injuries whimpering.

'If we don't get her to Gothi soon I might lose her for good..' I thought sadly as I lay down beside my mate, wrapping my tail around her as a sort of barrier and my wing covering her from sight. I kept my head close to her as I whimpered, hoping that the others finished the fight soon. The longer they took, the more I feared Kala would die from blood loss.

After what felt like ages, I felt someone pet me. I peeked out of the dome I made with my wing and tail to see who it was and whined when I saw it was Stoick.

"I know. I saw how badly she was hurt when we got here. She'll be alright. Are you hurt?" He asked and I shook my head no. "Good. You did well protecting her Hiccup. I'm proud of you."

"Uh, did the chief hit his head or something?" Snotlout asked as he and the others came into my line of sight.

"Yeah you good Chief Stoick? That Night Fury isn't Hiccup." Tuffnut said.

I gave them a deadpanned look and Fishlegs and Heather facepalmed.

"What? Is there something we're missing here?" Ruffnut asked, genuinely curious.

I huffed and got up from my spot, transforming into my human form. "And here I thought you guys would've put it together by now. Guess not."

"Aww man. The Night Fury was Hiccup? Bummer." Tuffnut complained.

"I don't know if I should be gobsmacked about this or just disappointed that I can't have my own Night Fury.." Snotlout stated.

I covered my heart in mock hurt by that. "I am hurt by that Snotlout. I thought you'd be happy to see me. I guess I was wrong. You don't care about me at all." I looked away and faked wiping at a tear.

"Hey that's not what I meant!" Snotlout defended as the twins laughed.

Stoick chuckled and shook his head. "Alright that's enough joking about. We have to get back to Berk pronto. Kala's not in good shape."

When he mentioned my mate I immediately transformed again and protected her, not wanting anyone to touch her, my instincts getting the best of me as I growled at them.

"Whoa it's okay Hiccup. None of us will hurt her, we promise." Heather soothed as she rested a hand on my head. "Will you let one of us take her back on one of our dragons? It's quite the distance and we wouldn't want her to slip off your back, now would we?"

I whined then gave in and let Stoick take Kala from under my wing.

"I'll keep her safe, Hiccup. Don't you worry." He reassured as he carried her gently towards Skullcrusher.

I transformed into my human form and mounted Windshear with Heather, not wanting to risk flying back with my own wings and revealing my transformation to the entire village.

~~~HTLANF~~~
It took us a couple of hours to get back to Berk. The flight felt like a lifetime, my eyes never leaving my mate as we flew. I was so out of it that I didn't even register the others talking.
I was basically on autopilot when we landed and dismounted our dragons. I went up to Stoick and took Kala from him with ease, not wanting anyone else to touch her. She slowly opened her eyes and smiled at me weakly.
"Hey…" She was able to get out.
I smiled sadly at her and kissed her forehead. "Hey love…you're gonna be okay…I promise…"
I was thankful that the others kept Vikings from crowding us as I tried to make my way to Gothi's hut, but there was one thing that kept me from getting there.
Astrid had blocked my path looking absolutely pissed off.
"Welcome back. Seems like the demon wasn't as lucky, huh? Why don't we fix that?" She said as she forcefully took Kala from my grasp and pinned her to a wall with her axe against her throat.
Kala whined and struggled to get free, her scales not able to appear from how weak she was.
"NO! GET AWAY FROM HER!!" I yelled out as I grabbed my Inferno and released the blade, scales appearing around my eyes from pure rage.
Astrid laughed and looked at me as she pressed harder against Kala's throat. "What are you gonna do? Kill me? In front of the entire village? You'd be executed on the spot!"
"SO WILL YOU IF YOU DON'T LET HER GO!"
"Watch me." She taunted and that sent me over the edge.
My instincts took over and all I could see was red. I transformed and pinned Astrid to the ground growling at her with my teeth bared and my claws gripping onto her harshly. She looked at me scared then smirked.
"You see?! That demon turned Hiccup into a monster!!" She shrieked as she feigned fear.
My eyes widened as I backed away from her, accidentally scratching her face as I did. She yelped in pain and that got people scared.
"Astrid was right!"
"That demon got ahold of Hiccup!"
"He's gone savage! Get him!"
I whined and tried to get away from the Vikings that were trying to chain me up.
'No! I'm not evil I swear!' I thought as I was getting backed into a corner.
"NO..! Don't hurt him..! He was just trying to protect me..!" Kala shrieked as she tried to stop Spitelout from chaining me up.
He pushed her away and other Vikings grabbed her to keep her away.
"No..! PLEASE..!!" She pleaded as she started to cry and struggle against the Vikings holding her back.
"Shut it, demon!" One of the Vikings holding my mate back ordered as he tightened his grip on her.
"NO!" I screeched as I saw her cry out in pain.
I tried to get away from the Vikings, but they pinned me to the ground and started to chain me up.
"STOP IT..!! PLEASE..!! LET HICCUP GO..!!" Kala cried as she gave up struggling.
"Why in Thor's name are you chaining him up?! Can't you see he was only protecting his mate?!" Stoick asked as he pulled Spitelout away.
"Because he's gone rogue, Stoick! Face it! This isn't your son any longer! It's a beast that has lost control and needs to be dealt with!" Spitelout shot back, then he turned to the Vikings that chained me up. "Lock him away in the academy! We finally have a use for it again!"
The Vikings in question nodded and started to drag me away. I whimpered and struggled against my restraints, tears flowing down my face as I did.
"No..! Please..! He didn't mean to..!" Kala pleaded, but her pleas went unnoticed.
She and I locked eyes before she was dragged off herself. We both had tears streaming down our faces.
