Chapter 65: chapter 10
Hiccup guided Kala to the main area of the nest to a place overlooking the entirety of it all. She smiled as he released her hand and put her hands on her hips.
"Okay mister. What is going on? Why did you drag me out here?" She asked with a raised brow, a bit of laughter coating her words as she did.
"Can't a dragon spend some alone time with his mate?" Hiccup quipped with a chuckle.
Kala shook her head with a smile and looked out towards the nest, her back turned to her mate as she did so. Hiccup smiled lovingly as he took in how beautiful his mate looked when the light hit her, highlighting her features in a way that took his breath away. His attention was broken, however, when he caught a glimpse of his father and mentor hiding behind some rocks a few yards away from where he and Kala stood.
He glared at them and waved for them to get out of there, but the two Vikings just gave him encouraging smiles with thumbs up as a way to tell him he's got this. Hiccup ran his hand down his face and looked away from them, trying his best to ignore that there was an audience as he gathered his courage.
'Okay, you can do this. How hard can it be? You two have been together for five years. Not to mention mates for two of those years. Yeah. You got this Hiccup.'
He took a deep breath to settle his nerves, shaking out his body and running a hand through his hair. He glanced at his father and Gobber once more and Stoick gave a soft smile. He mouthed to his son telling him to just breathe, which earned a small smile from the young dragon and a nod.
Hiccup took a deep breath once more than began to whistle the tune to his parents' song. As the whistling hit Kala's ears, her eyes widened as a blush formed upon her cheeks, deep as the red scales upon Hookfang's body.
" I'll soar and glide on savage winds, with never a fear of falling. And gladly glide the gusts of life, if you would marry me. " Hiccup sang as Kala slowly turned to him, her blush spreading. " No scorching sun, nor freezing cold will stop me on my journey. If you will promise me your heart…And love… "
Kala closed her eyes with a deep breath as she gathered her courage to continue the verse. She had not expected this to be the reason Hiccup had wanted privacy, but she wasn't upset at the outcome. Just surprised.
" And love me for eternity. My dearest one, my darling dear, your mighty words astound me. But I've no need of mighty deeds, when I feel your arms around me. " Kala sang, a smile pulling at her lips as she did.
Hiccup smiled and offered his hand to her, which she gladly took as they began to dance along with the song, deciding to do their mating dance as Hiccup pulled her close.
" But I would bring you rings of gold, I'd even sing you poetry, " Hiccup continued as they began to circle one another, their wings and tails coming out of hiding as they did.
"Oh, would you?" Kala asked with a small laugh.
" And I would keep you from all harm if you would stay beside me. " Hiccup finished the verse as they both splayed their wings, not breaking eye contact with one another.
" I have no use for rings of gold. I care not for your poetry. I only want your hand to hold. "
" I only want you near me! "
After they finished the last circle around each other, they took to the air and began to spin each other as they began the last verse, their wings flapping every now and then to keep them spinning and their tails wrapping together.
" To love, to kiss, to sweetly hold. For the dancing and the dreaming. Through all life's sorrows and delights, I'll keep your love inside me. I'll soar and glide on savage winds, with never a fear of falling. And gladly glide the gusts of life if you will marry me! "
They laughed as the song ended, kissing passionately as they slowly landed on solid ground once more, their wings and tails disappearing from sight. After a while, their lungs screamed for air and they were forced to pull away to catch their breath.
"So what do you say, milady? Will you marry me?" Hiccup asked as they rested their foreheads together with their eyes closed.
Kala giggled and nodded, beaming in joy. "Yes, yes I will marry you, you silly reptile."
Hiccup smiled and kissed her once again, holding her close. Kala gladly kissed back as the both of them purred contently, but they quickly jumped away from one another as they heard a loud cheer.
"YES!! WAY TA GO SON! I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT!" Stoick shouted from his and Gobber's hiding spot, pumping the air in excitement and bursting from pure happiness. The chief was absolutely ecstatic and was praising the gods for allowing him to witness his children become betrothed.
Kala giggled as she covered her mouth while Hiccup became as red as Hookfang's scales and glared at the man.
"DAD!!"
Stoick and Gobber laughed as they came out of hiding and hugged the young Night Furies in a group hug.
"Congrats on the betrothal. Was a beautiful dance, little flames." Gobber said happily, which earned blushes from the young dragons, but also smiles.
They all separated from the hug and Stoick patted his children on the shoulders. "Come on, you two. We best get back to Valka before she decides to come look for all four of us outta worry."
Just as they were about to head back to Valka's living area, the two dragons froze as they heard something going on outside of the nest. Both turned their heads in the direction they heard it with growls, then rushed off to go find out what it was.
"Hiccup, Kala!" Stoick shouted after them.
"Not again." Gobber groaned as he and Stoick rushed after the two Night Furies.
