HP – Shadow Monarch!

Chapter 69 – The Scapegoat of Hogsmeade.

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]
Third Person POV

Hogwarts.

...

...

Despite the shocking gossip, the school remained cloaked in sadness, which was to be expected. As Snape left his room, students had gathered that morning in the common room of their houses, maintaining silence; some still cried, others were frustrated and angry.

"I swear I'll destroy those damn dark wizards!!" James Potter shouted among his group in Gryffindor, extremely frustrated by what had happened to some of his friends and acquaintances, some tortured, others killed in the attack.

His thoughts suddenly returned to the events of the previous day, while he was in town with his group when the attack occurred and he tried to protect the others, but he was too weak to fight an adult.

He had stayed behind to hold off while Lupin, Black, and Pettigrew escaped, losing the fight a moment later.

"We'll torture him." The dark wizard said, as he was about to seize James, but someone emerged, exclaiming, "Not him, he's pure-blood!" The other spoke.

James woke up among many in a stabilized infirmary in the school courtyard while finding his friends; in the end, he felt weak and useless...

Returning to the present time, the Marauders went to the school's common room, finding the rest of the class in the same mood, while Snape saw Lily and approached her, brightening his mood.

"Lily!" He said as the girl looked at him and the others.

"Hello, boys." Lily spoke in a low tone.

"Lily... unfortunately, I was fighting other dark wizards and couldn't be by your side when you were in danger." He said, attempting to flirt.

"..." Lupin, Black, and Pettigrew silently looked on with pity for James, after all, Lily didn't seem to be paying attention to him, as she looked toward the entrance of the hall ignoring James.

Lily was looking at Snape, while James saw where her gaze was and was immediately infuriated with Snape, walking calmly as he seemed to capture Lily's attention somehow.

Lily was staring at Snape with a rather confused look... he had changed a lot, he no longer seemed to like her after what had happened and Lily began to blame herself for having abandoned him, Snape seemed to be surrounded by people who cared about him and he protected them as well, like the incident with the Ravenclaw girl the other day.

He even saw the girl despite looking sad at her table, she broke into a big smile for Snape as she waved to him, with Snape nodding his head in greeting.

Lily felt her heart flutter with a strange feeling. 'Am I jealous?' She couldn't help but murmur as she watched Snape head for an empty spot at the Slytherin table.

But what troubled Lily the most at that moment was something else, after all, memories of yesterday began to return after she had cried a lot for two friends who died in the midst of chaos horribly and many acquaintances having the same fate, aside from those who were suffering the aftermath while recovering from the unforgivable curse.

She remembers how she saw the wizards dying behind the professors mysteriously, she saw the hooded man everyone is talking about, killing some dark wizards while the professors looked into the air, she saw how he moved and it reminded her so much of Snape who had defeated her so easily.

'Why does this remind me of him...? Was it him... How...' Lily wondered. 'Blades... Snape began to show interest in blades right after he changed...' She still remembers the first and last transfiguration class that Snape attended this year. He had conjured two strange blades.

Lily wanted to dig deeper... to find out if it was really him... how he had done it, it was unbelievable that the Snape she knew had exterminated a group of wizards so easily.

"Did you hear the rumor about Snape?" A friend next to Lily noticed her gaze following the Slytherin student and gossiped.

"What do you mean...?" Lily wasn't aware after having stayed in her room crying.

"I heard that a Hufflepuff student saw Snape and Bellatrix kissing in the library..." the friend said, leaving Lily stunned.

Lily barely managed to articulate her thoughts about this when a group of owls and other mail-carrying animals entered the common room at that moment.

"The news!!" A student commented while waiting for them to deliver all the newspapers.

Lily received one in front of her, remaining stunned. "What is this?!" A student at the table exclaimed.

"Why did they do this?!"

"Why treat this person this way?!"

Exclamations began to arise from the three tables victimized by the attack, while Slytherin remained silent but slightly satisfied with the situation.

The headmaster received the newspaper in front of him along with the other teachers as some turned back to Albus. "Hey, Headmaster Dumbledore... this isn't right..." Flitwick murmured with a questioning look.

Dumbledore looked at the newspaper while sighing. He had not had an easy time yesterday, as he had been to the Ministry of Magic, in a private hearing with the Minister of Magic.

"This was inadmissible, Headmaster Dumbledore!" The man in charge of the Ministry of Magic snarled and continued. "Not only Muggle-born students died, but also various other wizards from pure-blood families, though not from the main ones, it's still something we cannot ignore!" He said.

"You can't also be concerned about these wizards when students also died because of them, can you?!" Dumbledore said with a tone of dissatisfaction, though still maintaining control of his anger.

"You know that these families will want an explanation, even more so when there's a butcher maybe Muggle out there killing wizards and no one can yet say who did this!" The Minister exclaimed.

"I can agree with you on that and I am doing everything to find the culprit, but it still doesn't change the fact that they started it." Dumbledore spoke to the men in front of him.

"Killed by blades, something so brutal, Headmaster Dumbledore... Are we back in the 15th century by any chance?! We want to know who this person was. This is more important than worrying about Muggle-borns, we can resolve that with mind spells." The Minister said.

"You can't..." Dumbledore was about to speak, but the Minister continued.

"We will have to replace you, you have shown yourself to be an ineffective headmaster in a time of crisis while you were not at the school." The Minister said as the others agreed.

"But Minister of Magic, we were both in a meeting at that time..." He said, nearly losing control of his voice, but the man did not seem very pleased with this.

"That doesn't matter, what matters is that you, as headmaster, were out of the school, no one else will accept you as headmaster." He spoke stubbornly...

"You are just trying to shift the blame to me!" Dumbledore's voice rose, becoming angry, while scaring the men from the Ministry for a moment, making them step back, as Dumbledore began to understand what they wanted... "Let's keep calm, gentlemen..." He started again, no longer angry. "What do you intend?" He asked.

"We want to put the killer of the pure-blood wizards inside Azkaban, we will list him as wanted offering a large reward for murder, torture, and brutality! With this, we can find a way to keep you as the headmaster of Hogwarts," the Minister spoke, and Dumbledore ended up nodding, knowing that they were shifting the blame to this man, but what more could he do...

"That will be done..." Dumbledore commented at the end, he had to maintain his position as headmaster, only he could defeat Voldemort and would do everything to achieve that.

Despite placing him as responsible for the attack in Hogsmeade and not the dark wizards as was in today's newspaper, Dumbledore also needed to know who this man was who had never had any record of acting in the wizarding world until today, after all, nobody killed with blades... he had to see if this person was an ally or an enemy, despite having fought against the dark wizards, he could be someone who had to be eliminated if he was a danger to the wizarding world, and Dumbledore would take care of that, after all, he is the wizard who has the role of eliminating all evil, no matter what he has to do.

Moving away from Dumbledore's hero syndrome, someone there, that morning was not very satisfied. Snape had sat in an empty spot while the gossip began to spread and all the Slytherin students looked at him as soon as he sat down.

There were looks of admiration, fear, and frustration, but Snape ignored them all as he ate to regain his energy from the morning training. until the newspaper emerged.

He looked at the pages in front of him with the cover about yesterday's event, which was not a surprise, but the headline and the article shocked him greatly. 'Violence in Hogsmeade: Brutal Attack by the Man of Blades Leaves Several Dead in Confrontation, Including Students and Pure-Blood Wizards!'
The headline was biased, placing all the blame on Snape, and the article was even worse, focusing all the attention on that man eliminating his opponents with blades, a brutally outdated method for the wizarding community. Snape read this while raising an eyebrow, generating a bit of frustration.

"It seems that this man is the culprit!" A Slytherin student exclaimed, pleased with the headline.

"Did you see... he killed with blades, he must be a Muggle, he's a danger to the wizarding world!"

"My brother died because of this lunatic... I hope they kill and torture him!!"

Slytherin students began to exclaim, while the other tables had quite the opposite opinion. "How can they?" A student immediately complained, still traumatized by yesterday's event, when he thought he would be killed or tortured to death, he was saved by that mysterious man.

"Yes... he saved me... how can they treat him this way!!" Someone from Gryffindor exclaimed.

"It was the dark wizards who attacked us!! Why is the man who killed them the villain now!!??" Someone from Ravenclaw was also enraged.

"Those idiots from the Ministry are just placing the blame on someone else for this mess," another student murmured, frustrated.

Snape continued to look at the newspaper until he stood up... unable to do anything about it and wanting to leave. 'It seems that the Ministry of Magic is quite corrupt...' He thought, after all, it was obvious that they were looking to pin the blame on someone after they had taken a while to show up.

'But I shouldn't be surprised... what else to expect from politics...' He concluded as he left the common room. 'Anyway, it looks like I'll have to deal with them too, this bunch of idiots. And I'm also sure the headmaster has some influence in this.' He murmured internally, walking through the school corridors to start his day.

Snape saw the school maintaining the same mood for the rest of the day, he was not indifferent to it, he really did not like seeing this kind of injustice, but despite feeling sorry for the dead students, there was not much he could do; he did not have enough power to change this event, so he did what was within his reach: he massacred all, saving as many students as he could, now he needed to get even stronger and gained a lot of level ups killing all those wizards, so it was time to start collecting more points in the coming days while continuing his training, after all, it seems he has many enemies, from many sides, whether dark wizards, now the ministry, and even Dumbledore are forces that will not be able to coexist together in the future and he intended to exterminate everyone in his path.
