I am the President of Brazil

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Choosing Ministers

Gustavo was sitting in his office at the Planalto Palace, looking at a list of possible names that could make up his cabinet. Each decision he made carried enormous weight, because he knew that choosing the right people would be essential to the success of his government. His promise to transform Brazil into a world power would not only depend on his ideas and leadership, but on the people around him. He reflected on the responsibility he now carried and how his choices would directly impact millions of Brazilians.

Paola entered the office and found Gustavo thoughtful, with several open folders in front of him.

"You seem immersed in important decisions," she said softly, approaching and sitting next to him.

"I'm trying to find the right balance for the ministerial team. I want competent people, who know what they're talking about, but also people who share my vision for Brazil," Gustavo replied, running his hand through his hair, in a gesture of tiredness, but also of concentration.

Paola smiled and lightly touched his arm. "You will make the right choices. Trust your instincts. We all know that you have a clear vision for the country."

Gustavo nodded. He knew that the choice of ministers would be crucial, not only for the government's efficiency, but also for public perception. He needed ministers who represented the future and the change he had promised. After all, he had come to the presidency promising integrity, competence and transparency.

After days of intense reflection and consultations with advisors, Gustavo finally completed his list. It was time to swear in the new ministers.

On the morning of the ministers' swearing-in ceremony, the hall at the Planalto Palace was filled with anticipation. The media was present in force, and the entire country waited to see who would be chosen to make up the first echelon of Gustavo Andrade's government. He knew that this would be one of the most important moments of his term, and so he decided that each name would be announced with attention and care.

As he stood at the podium, Gustavo adjusted the microphone and looked out at the audience. Journalists, politicians, and important figures in society were all listening attentively. He took a deep breath and began.

— Today, we have a new opportunity for Brazil. An opportunity to build a strong, efficient government that is, above all, committed to the Brazilian people. It is with great pride that I announce the ministers who will be by my side on this journey of transformation. — Gustavo paused and began calling out the names, one by one.

— For the Ministry of Economy, I have chosen Ricardo Pereira. A renowned economist with extensive experience in the public and private sectors, who understands the complexities of the Brazilian and global economy. His mission will be to promote sustainable growth and ensure that Brazil becomes competitive on the global stage.

Ricardo Pereira, a middle-aged man with glasses and a confident posture, came up on stage and shook Gustavo's hand.

— It is an honor, President. We will work tirelessly to ensure that Brazil grows in a balanced and inclusive way," said Ricardo, with a firmness that inspired confidence.

— At the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, I invited Carolina Mota, a renowned jurist and tireless defender of justice and human rights. Carolina will have the difficult task of reforming our judicial system and ensuring that the law is enforced fairly and impartially throughout the country.

Carolina, a woman with a strong presence, a determined outlook and vast knowledge of constitutional law, took the stage. She shook Gustavo's hand and declared:

— I promise to lead this ministry with integrity, always seeking justice and strengthening security for all Brazilians.

Gustavo continued, going through each ministry with the same seriousness and care.

— For the Ministry of Education, I invited Miguel Soares, an educator with over 30 years of experience, who has dedicated his life to public education. Miguel will be responsible for ensuring that Brazilian education is inclusive, of quality, and capable of preparing our young people for the future.

Miguel took the stage with a restrained smile, clearly excited about the role he would assume.

— Education is the pillar of any strong society. I will work to ensure that all Brazilian children and young people have access to an education that allows them to prosper and achieve their dreams, — he said, his voice firm but full of emotion.

The next name Gustavo called was for the Ministry of Health. The country, still recovering from the challenges faced by the pandemic, was eagerly awaiting this choice.

— For the Ministry of Health, I chose Dr. Helena Martins, one of the most respected doctors in the country, with extensive experience in public health. Dr. Helena will be responsible for reforming our health system, ensuring that it is efficient, humane, and that it serves all Brazilians, regardless of their social status.

Helena took the stage with a calm and serene demeanor, but with the determination of someone who knew the size of the responsibility she was taking on.

— Health is a right for everyone, and I will work to ensure that our public health system is an example of efficiency and humanized care. We need to care for people with dignity and respect," said Helena, receiving a loud applause from the audience.

One of the last names was that of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a particularly strategic choice for Gustavo.

"For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I nominate André Vasconcelos. He will be responsible for promoting an active foreign policy that strengthens Brazil's relations with the world and, at the same time, defends our interests on the international stage."

André, a career diplomat with decades of experience in international negotiations, shook Gustavo's hand.

"We will ensure that Brazil occupies the prominent place it deserves on the global stage, promoting partnerships that bring concrete benefits to our people," said André, with his firm and confident voice.

After naming all the ministers, Gustavo returned to the microphone.

— I chose each of these names based on their skills, their commitment to Brazil, and their desire to transform our country into a prosperous and fair nation. Together, we will work to make Brazil a better place for all Brazilians. This is the beginning of a new era.

At the end of the ceremony, the new ministers and Gustavo took pictures together, under the watchful eyes of the media. Each one was aware of the expectations placed on them, but also confident in the path they would follow alongside the new president. Gustavo knew that, with that team at his side, he was ready to start building the Brazil he promised the people.

After the ceremony, Gustavo returned to his office. He was tired, but felt that he had taken the first important step. Paola came in, watching her husband for a moment, before speaking:

— You did a great job today. The country is confident in your choices.

— Now the hard part begins, — Gustavo replied, with a tired but determined smile.

— I know you can do it. We will do it together.

Gustavo smiled and once again mentally prepared himself for what was to come. The future of Brazil was in his hands, and he was ready to lead the country into a new era.
