chapter 12
Chapter 12 Mission Accomplished
In the An Guo Gong Mansion, Qin Ji was reviewing documents in his room.
Beside him, Qin Siyue was also busy—she was drawing. The woman in the drawing had short black hair and looked heroic.
“This person in your drawing looks very familiar.”
Qin Ji took a moment to glance at her drawing. The woman in the drawing always gave him a sense of déjà vu, and that elegant feeling was really unforgettable.
“Of course she looks familiar, this person is with you every day.”
Qin Siyue seemed a bit displeased, perhaps out of jealousy, but despite her words, her brush strokes were very true to life, capturing the essence of the woman in the drawing.
Qin Siyue was not someone who couldn’t draw without a tablet. After all, she had systematically studied painting. She might not know traditional Chinese painting, but she could certainly do sketches.
“So it’s her, why did you think of drawing her?” With Qin Siyue’s reminder, Qin Ji immediately understood who she was drawing. “I remember you two have a pretty good relationship.”
“Not bad, we can say it’s mutual admiration, and Sister Lingyan is indeed very beautiful.” Qin Siyue did not hide this at all. “I painted her because her temperament perfectly matches the kind of girl I wanted to depict, elegant, but with a touch of violent aesthetics~”
“Oh, indeed, you’ve always liked this type.”
Qin Ji remembered that in the past, he often saw many beautiful pictures of girls on Qin Siyue’s phone. Most of those girls were pretty and cute but holding knives, guns, swords, halberds, axes, hooks, and forks, looking like they were about to chop someone.
“By the way, I saw Sister Lingyan wearing night clothes and going out just now. Did you assign her a task?”
“I didn’t assign any task. She must have discovered something on her own.”
“Aren’t you going to check?”
“I’m very confident in Lingyan’s work.” Qin Ji continued to approve the document in front of him. It was a document about the military deployment of the northern border. Such documents involving major strategies often required his personal approval as the military head. He neatly wrote “Can be executed immediately” on it, then stamped it with his seal and sealed it.
“Hey, brother, I’m not talking about whether you trust her work. I mean, you should at least show some concern for her, right?” Qin Siyue lay on the table, looking exasperated.
“What’s the big deal, I…”
Qin Ji was about to continue when suddenly, light footsteps sounded from the door, gradually approaching the study.
Qin Ji listened for a moment, then relaxed. It was Lingyan’s footsteps.
“Back?”
“Yes, back.”
Lingyan’s voice floated in from outside before she entered the room. She then opened the door and walked into the study.
Qin Ji looked up at her and immediately threw away the pen in his hand.
The girl in front of him was drenched, her tight night clothes clinging to her body, highlighting her graceful curves. Her hair was also a mess due to the rain.
However, the reason Qin Ji threw away his pen was not because of this.
It was the red rainwater dripping from Lingyan’s night clothes.
“You’re injured?!”
Qin Ji quickly crossed his desk and grabbed her hand.
“You’re overthinking, young master. I’m fine.” Lingyan shook the rainwater off her head—awkwardly, Qin Ji was right in front of her, and her subconscious action splashed rainwater all over his face. “None of the blood on me is mine.”
Qin Ji breathed a sigh of relief.
Lingyan was his most trusted person. If she were injured, he would be in real danger. In the entire Great Xia, except for the experts raised in the palace, very few people could defeat Lingyan. If even she were injured, Qin Ji would have to consider strengthening his protection.
“So what happened?”
“I chased the assassins who tried to kill you, young master. They were quite skilled, top-notch elites,” Lingyan said. “I wanted to bring one back alive for interrogation, but unfortunately, they all committed suicide by poisoning. It seems the mastermind behind them doesn’t want you to know their identity, at least for now.”
Qin Ji frowned.
He knew someone was getting impatient to make a move against him, but he didn’t expect it to happen so soon. And from Lingyan’s words, it seemed they had invested quite a bit. It’s not easy to train a group of highly skilled and loyal death warriors these days.
“Any specific characteristics?”
If he knew the general characteristics of the other party, he might be able to trace them back to their source.
“I brought one back, but unfortunately, he’s dead.”
Ling Yan leaned half of her body out and then pulled a bag inside. She opened the bag, and inside was the corpse of an assassin.
“What the heck! Why did you bring the corpse in here!?”
“Isn’t it convenient for you to identify? If I didn’t bring the corpse back, you probably wouldn’t guess it right just by my description.”
……
This guard is really too thorough.
Qin Ji directly opened the bag and examined it, then looked back to ensure Qin Siyue didn’t see the corpse, and nodded: “Hmm, for identification, I will analyze it slowly later. For now, take the corpse to the black prison.”
The so-called black prison is actually a detention place within the Duke An’s mansion. It was originally used to punish servants and family members who violated family rules and sometimes served as a private punishment place for the Duke An’s mansion. However, since the new emperor ascended the throne, Qin Ji had sealed the black prison.
“Change your clothes first. You’re soaked. Although you have a stronger constitution than ordinary people, you still need to be careful, understand?” He instructed Ling Yan.
“Yes, I know. I picked up a set of clothes on my way here.” Ling Yan said, “If it weren’t for the urgency to report to you, I would have changed in the laundry room.”
Saying this, she untied the oilcloth bag in her other hand, which contained clean clothes.
Then, she grabbed the hem of her night clothes and pulled them up, taking them off just like that.
Her movements were so fast that Qin Ji didn’t have time to react. His eyes were blinded by a flash of white, and the girl’s alluring body was exposed in front of him.
“Ah! What are you doing!?”
Qin Ji quickly turned his head, and Qin Siyue reacted even faster, jumping up like a little leopard and rushing to Ling Yan, blocking her body.
“Didn’t you tell me to change clothes?”
Ling Yan’s tone sounded particularly innocent, but if Qin Ji turned his head, he would find that the joyful smile on her lips was not hidden at all.
It seemed she was quite satisfied with Qin Ji’s reaction.
Important Notice
Hehe, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. Although it’s an important notice, it’s definitely not about discontinuation, so don’t worry.
The main thing is, when I started writing this book, I never expected everyone to like it so much. To be honest, this book has had the best start of any book I’ve written since I came to SF. In one sentence: I’ve never had such a wonderful start.
Therefore, for the experience of everyone and future readers, I plan to make large-scale revisions (possibly even a reset) to the currently updated chapters to optimize the reading experience.
Of course, please rest assured, the revisions will not involve the overall plot and basic settings, only some settings that might cause problems in the future will be modified. Other aspects, including character settings and plot, will not be changed.
