Chapter 59: Infiltration (2)
“Celestial Cavalry, gather!”
As Yoo Seong quietly spoke while standing on the hill facing Lushen, the Celestial Cavalry appeared with a subtle golden glow.
“Whoo…”
Yoo Seong narrowed his eyes and closed them.
Though he had rested his eyes briefly while waiting until the early hours, today he had already summoned them multiple times, so it felt like his body was under strain.
But it wasn’t unbearable.
Taking a deep breath to regain focus, Yoo Seong nodded once at Diana, who was looking at him with concern, and said calmly,
“This is the initial plan.”
After briefly explaining the objective, Diana furrowed her brow for a moment but then nodded in understanding.
“I understand. I will follow you.”
Diana said this and gave her rear position to Yoo Seong, with two Pegasus Riders nearby stepping forward to carry Rene and Jillian.
“The operation begins.”
Once all three were mounted, Diana gave a brief command, and thirty Celestial Cavalry flew into the air with their wings spread wide.
“Enemies!”
“Pegasus!”
The Pegasi, with their white fur and wings, crossed the walls of the castle, causing the Ratmen on the walls to scream in alarm.
“Wake up! The enemy is here!”
“They’ve arrived!”
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The loud drums echoed, and the Ratmen, who had been half-asleep, woke with a start and looked around.
“It’s the sky! Shoot them!”
“They’re over there!”
Though the sounds of shouts came from both above the walls and below, no immediate attack was launched.
Because it was so late at night, most of the Ratmen were still asleep, and it took time for them to gather their gear.
“That way!”
Ignoring the Ratmen gathering at his feet, Yoo Seong pointed toward the predetermined spot, near the inner city and in front of the tunnel entrance.
“That way!”
At the spot Yoo Seong pointed to, a tired Land Worm was resting, its body and head partially sticking out as it slept after digging the tunnel.
To completely destroy the enemy’s infiltration path created in Lushen, not only the tunnel but also the Land Worm had to be eliminated.
“Unit, ascend! Form a wedge formation!”
Having confirmed the target, Diana led the charge, and the Celestial Cavalry followed in a wedge formation in the air.
“Th-that’s them!”
“Catch them!”
Dark Elves emerged from the inner city, shouting as they pulled their bows or cast spells.
But Diana ignored them, focusing only on the Land Worm, and soon began descending.
Dragoon Dive.
Diana’s Shockwave.
The chivalry of Diana, who had made remarkable achievements many times before, spread to the entire Celestial Cavalry that formed the wedge.
The more people involved, the faster the charge, the greater the power of Diana’s chivalry.
Yoo Seong tightly gripped Diana’s waist and increased the speed with the Storm Order, while some of the Dark Elves, realizing what the Celestial Cavalry intended to do, screamed in fear, but it was useless.
KWA-GA-GA-GA-GA-GANG!
An immense shockwave swept across the ground.
The Land Worm, struck by the tip of Diana’s spear, did not even have a chance to scream properly.
Its back was literally shattered.
The shell was broken, and its bones were visible, with flesh gouged deeply and widely.
Yoo Seong, who had jumped off the back of Enika, whom Diana was riding, plunged his sword into the half-destroyed head of the Land Worm and ignited a fiery flame to burn its brain.
“Grggrrggghh—”
The squirming Land Worm trembled for a moment before collapsing.
“This madness! Strike! Now!”
“Ascend!”
The shout of the Ratman mage, Regal, who had rushed out of the inner city, overlapped with Yoo Seong’s command.
Ratmen and Dark Elves poured arrows and magic at the Celestial Cavalry, who had landed on the ground, while Diana and the Celestial Cavalry soared into the air, evading the incoming barrage.
Due to the shockwave created by Diana’s chivalry, the dust on the ground was thick.
Amidst this, the clearly visible Celestial Cavalry shot into the sky, drawing all attention toward them.
And because of that, no one noticed Yoo Seong, Rene, and Jillian crouching low on the body of the Land Worm.
Yoo Seong took a deep breath.
The operation to destroy the tunnel was about to begin in earnest.
After glancing once at Rene and Jillian, Yoo Seong signaled with a nod and kicked off the corpse of the Land Worm, charging forward.
“Alphonse!”
A jet-black warhorse suddenly appeared, lifting Yoo Seong onto its back.
“Rainy!”
“Jerome!”
Rene and Jillian also shouted as they ran, and their respective warhorses appeared, carrying them.
“Let’s go!”
Shouting as they charged toward the tunnel, Yoo Seong released a golden aura.
It was an action as if shouting, “Look over here!”
“Th-That’s him!”
Among the Ratmen and Dark Elves, some, flustered by the golden glow that faded into the distance, noticed Yoo Seong.
“Kiak! Cough!”
Yoo Seong, cutting down the Ratmen guarding the tunnel entrance in an instant, rode straight into the tunnel.
Rene and Jillian followed closely behind him.
“Catch them! We must catch them!”
Regal screamed frantically, and Ratmen holding torches rushed toward the tunnel.
Narcis, who had arrived late, quickly understood the situation and led Melios and other Dark Elves to pursue.
Yoo Seong, aware that the Ratmen and Dark Elves were following behind, sent Rene and Jillian ahead while positioning himself at the back.
With the blazing flames from his sword lighting up the dark cave, it was as if a torch was held, drawing even more attention.
“There he is! That’s the Black Knight of Lothian!”
Melios, who knew Yoo Seong’s face, shouted.
“Haste!”
Regal cast a speed-up spell on the Ratmen.
With the spell, the Ratmen, who had been running on two legs, switched to four legs, and their speed surpassed even the swiftest steeds.
The Dark Elves, not willing to fall behind, summoned Ghost Horses, Phantom Steeds, to increase their speed.
And then, at one moment…
“We’re almost there! It’s right here!”
At Rene’s shout, Yoo Seong stopped his horse and turned around.
Seeing the Ratmen and Dark Elves charging toward him, he shouted,
“Heavy Infantry, gather!”
Paaat!
With a dazzling golden light, the Heavy Infantry appeared.
“Defensive formation!”
Suddenly appearing, they immediately set up their shields and thrust their axe spears forward after hearing Yoo Seong’s command.
Although it was wide, it was still inside the tunnel.
Since the width was only about 5 meters, it was possible for forty middle-heavy infantry to completely block the tunnel.
Kwah-gang! Kwah-gang-gang!
The ratmen, unable to control their running speed, collided with the front lines of the middle-heavy infantry and were shattered.
The middle-heavy infantry were pushed back slightly, but only a little.
They immediately raised their shields again and thrust their axe spears forward, causing the ratmen and dark elves to slow down and come to a halt.
“Get out of the way! I will cast magic!”
Regal, riding a large wolf rat, stretched his hand forward and cast a spell, sending a black fireball towards the middle-heavy infantry.
“Uoooo!”
At that very moment, Hector, who activated his chivalry, blocked Regal’s fireball with his massive shield.
Tsu-whaak!
The explosive black flames of the fireball filled the tunnel, but Hector did not retreat. Instead, he maximized his size and blocked the tunnel with his shield.
“Y-You crazy!”
Regal cursed as he prepared to cast a stronger spell, but Narcis reached out and stopped him.
It was a narrow tunnel.
If an even stronger spell were used, the tunnel could collapse.
Regal fumed in frustration at Narcis’ restraint, but it was only for a moment.
Suddenly, one of them, ears twitching, smiled slyly.
“You fools! Reinforcements are coming from the opposite side!”
It wasn’t a bluff. It was real.
Yoo Seong could also hear the footsteps of reinforcements approaching from behind.
Hector, who also heard the footsteps, looked back at Yoo Seong and, without realizing it, narrowed his eyes.
A truly strange sight appeared before them.
Rene, having sent her warhorse away, stood with her hands stretched toward the ceiling.
Jillian, crouching in a nearby corner, stared up at the ceiling with wide, tear-filled eyes. Meanwhile, Yoo Seong, despite the crisis, was glaring fiercely at the ceiling, not at the enemy.
Why?
What was he trying to do?
It was at that moment.
“Dig!”
Rene cast magic toward the ceiling.
It was earth-digging magic aimed at the ceiling instead of the ground, but the effect activated the same way.
Several meters of the ceiling were dug, and a huge amount of dirt poured down.
Hector still couldn’t understand the situation.
But beyond the massive Hector, Yoo Seong and Rene were visible — more specifically, Narcis, who heard Rene’s spell, widened his eyes in shock.
He had figured out what Yoo Seong was trying to do.
“Could it be…!”
“Dig!”
Rene shouted again.
The previously dug area was dug further, and Jillian, now with a face screaming ‘this is insane!’, curled up even more.
And now Yoo Seong looked not at the ceiling but at Narcis and his subordinates directly ahead.
What Yoo Seong was about to do.
The reason for infiltrating the tunnel.
Narcis’ face went pale.
His mind kept repeating that it was impossible, but his instincts were telling him something.
You’re right.
What you think they’re doing, that’s exactly what they’re doing.
“Run!”
“Dig!”
Narcis’s scream-like shout overlapped with Rene’s chant.
The earth dug once more.
But this time, it was different.
It wasn’t just dirt pouring down.
Kwah-gagagagagagagagag!
The tunnel extended from the south.
That meant it had passed under the moat, not the drainage system.
So what would happen if the tunnel dug its way under the moat?
Water began pouring down from the ceiling.
At first, it was just a trickle, but it didn’t last long.
The stream quickly grew, and an enormous amount of water poured down from the ceiling.
“Rene!”
Yoo Seong, having pulled back Hector and the middle-heavy infantry, grabbed Rene’s waist and threw himself toward Jillian. Jillian screamed, praying desperately.
“Kyaaa!”
Lord Omphalos!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A divine barrier erupted from the ground and walls, surrounding and protecting the three.
Kwah-gag! Kwah-gag! Kwagagagaga!
As the ceiling collapsed, more water poured down.
The immense volume hitting the divine barrier made Jillian sob loudly and pray again and again.
This was truly insane.
To flood the tunnel by digging a hole from within the tunnel toward the moat.
Where in the world would such madness happen?
Yoo Seong, with a tense expression, looked beyond the divine barrier.
The water that had poured down swept through the tunnel, engulfing the ratmen and dark elves.
It was connected to the moat via the drainage system.
With the amount of water pouring down, the reinforcements on the other side were likely facing the same fate.
Kwah-gagagagaga-!
The hole in the ceiling grew larger.
Not only the moat but the water level in the drainage system began to lower due to the immense amount of water flooding into the tunnel.
“Sniffle, Lord Omphalos…”
Jillian, who was too scared to open her eyes, kept praying with her eyes tightly closed, and Yoo Seong, while tightly embracing Rene, looked up at the ceiling.
Between the dark water that now filled the surroundings, fish that seemed to have come from the drainage system were swimming.
“Wow…”
Rene muttered in awe, and Yoo Seong, reminded of an aquarium, let out a bitter laugh before steadying his breath.
The operation was a great success.
Not only had they flooded the tunnel, but they had also managed to drown at least several hundred enemies.
Now, it was time to escape for a perfect success.
“Saint.”
At Yoo Seong’s call, Jillian flinched and opened her eyes, looking at Yoo Seong with a frightened face.
Although she already knew what the next step was, her expression seemed to be asking if they were really going to do it.
“We must.”
“We must, Sister.”
After Yoo Seong, Rene spoke, and Jillian bit her lip with a troubled look, wriggled her body, and prepared herself.
Yoo Seong, still holding Jillian with his remaining arm, looked at Rene one last time.
“Are you ready?”
“Yes, Heir.”
Rene pressed her body close to Yoo Seong, as if ready at any moment.
“Saint, please.”
At Yoo Seong’s words, Jillian thought to herself.
This is insane.
It had already been insane, but it was still insane.
But as Rene had said, it was something that absolutely had to be done to escape.
“Hoo!”
Jillian took a deep breath and, at the same time, slowly released the Omphalos barriers with her eyes tightly closed.
Kugugu-!
As soon as gaps appeared in the barrier, water rushed in and quickly began to fill the space.
And finally, when the water reached above the heads of the three.
When Jillian completely released the barrier, Yoo Seong, tightly holding Rene and Jillian, pushed off the ground and leaped toward the surface of the water.
“Cough, huff.”
“Hah, hah.”
As they poked their heads above the surface, Rene and Jillian breathed heavily.
Yoo Seong, still holding both of them, moved toward the ground.
Then, Ruan, who had been hiding in the bushes, jumped out, carrying the light bird that had guided Rene to the location of the moat on his shoulder.
“A great success!”
Yoo Seong just smiled, sending Jillian up first, and then, holding Rene with one arm, crawled up to the ground and out of the moat.
“Hah, ugh.”
Jillian collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath, while Rene also seemed to be exhausted, her body slumping.
But there was no time to rest.
Enemies were still left in Lushen.
Moreover, while the ratman mage they had encountered in the tunnel might be different, the dark elves, being resistant to melee combat, were likely still alive.
“There they are! Attack!”
Someone shouted after spotting Yoo Seong’s group from the direction of the castle walls.
The castle gate opened, and the drawbridge began to lower.
Rene and Jillian each called for their warhorses, and Yoo Seong mounted with Rene, while Luan mounted with Jillian, and they both raced southward.
“They’re chasing us! They’ll catch up!”
Ruan, who had looked back, shouted urgently.
The number of ratmen riding wolf rats that had charged out of the castle gate seemed to be at least several hundred.
The Celestial Cavalry and the Middle-Heavy Infantry had already been summoned once.
Now, the only forces they could summon were the elite infantry and the elf archers.
Should they call them out and settle things with them?
No.
There was another method.
[The Blacksmith Shop level-up has been completed.]
[The Metal Refinery level-up has been completed.]
A fierce smile appeared on Yoo Seong’s face as he thought of what became possible because of this.
