chapter 11
11. You’ve changed too much
Controlling one’s magical power, condensing it from dispersion, and then transforming it into the desired form.
That was the basic sequence involved in handling all magic.
Depending on how one transforms, applies, and unfolds it, the results will vary. If the transformation takes the form of a magic circle, then it turns into magic.
What Rika showed Rok-Soo was among countless magics, recovery, and buff.
The Rok-Soo portion that was focused on was the amplification aspect of original power from the buff.
Usually, applying a buff to others was merely adding a slight power.
However, the process Rika demonstrated as an example was a bit different in the case of a buff that amplifies her own power.
Her power, structured to fit her body, began to show a unique structure.
In a nutshell, it felt like adding an extra pipe equipped with an engine that operates for the purpose of more efficiently using the raw power flowing through the body.
Hence, at this moment,
‘Control the energy… No, transforming the power that causes extreme energy consumption into a form suitable for the body due to Temporal Manipulation…’
He began to transform the power to suit his body.
While it was not possible to mimic magic after seeing it once,
Rok-Soo had the three cores of lower, middle, and upper stages, or in other words, all three cores were open in his body, which made power control easier than others.
Not only was it due to transcendence, but also because of the spider webs and threads that appeared without using particular skills whenever he fought.
As the saying goes, a dog trained at a temple recites scriptures in three years, he had unconsciously got a grip on power control because he was exposed to it.
Rok-Soo’s hands shimmered with threads of blue, weaving in and out with crimson and violet from the spider webs, as if melting into the warm aura.
He focused, intending to create something with his power.
‘…Was Rok-Soo skilled at magic? I couldn’t see much of it after he changed as a child.’
Rika stared at Rok-Soo, who was using magic quite adeptly,
Watching him transforming buff magic into his color, and creating something strange…
She had been looking at Rok-Soo, who was fine when he was a kid, for a long time.
Rok-Soo, indistinguishable from ordinary children, was not initially such a malicious stalker.
Was the root cause when he lost his parents in a villain-caused accident and awakened the power related to space?
And either it was an aftermath of that power or the aftermath of losing his parents in the accident,
Rok-Soo, who one day started hearing strange voices.
Even though they went to the hospital, the cause was unknown.
All that she could do for him in his childhood was….
…he only made a commitment to the young Rokseo who was screaming in fear of losing himself.
When at some point, that howling Rokseo stopped crying, the boy began to change.
He clearly remembered their promise, and he was the Rokseo she knew.
But his nature changed little by little until Rokseo finally became a vicious stalker.
‘Is it that power that sometimes shows when Rokseo, who is flickering in that hand, is about to teleport? Or is it due to the aftermath of the accident?’
Whether it was due to the aftermath of the accident or a strange voice, she didn’t know.
But he still remembered the promise he made with her when they were young….
But one day, after suddenly changing again, he behaved as if he couldn’t remember the promise.
Usually, he wouldn’t even pay attention to her and the women he used to stalk.
For some reason, he seemed obsessed with battle and would come into the classroom exhausted from fighting during every lunch break.
We always went home together at the end of the day.
It seemed as if he had forgotten not only the promise but also the memories with her as he didn’t speak to her.
If he had just told her that he forgot the promise, she would have just punched him hard.
‘Why, why doesn’t he say anything to me…?’
But to Rokseo who wouldn’t even look at her as if that alone was a luxury, let alone speak.
Leaving her behind, he gathered enlightenment in the middle of practical training to get to the next level.
Just as if a caterpillar was preparing for metaphosis for a better future.
Gently wrapping his body as if making a correction with a web-like energy that alternates between crimson and sepia.
Making his surroundings faint like creating a hardened chrysalis with blue silk threads.
Lika, who, for some reason, felt like she was growing more and more distant from the Rokseo she knew.
Lika bit her lips as she saw Rokseo, who was reaching the edge of nirvana, begin to realize something.
However, it wasn’t just Lika who gulped at the sight.
“What, what!? Rokseo is suddenly experiencing enlightenment!?”
The already puzzled students burst out questions everywhere after seeing this.
Starting with suddenly dropping out of the academy and barely passing the gem golem challenge.
Ignoring the female students he used to stalk and ceasing his annoying behavior.
And now, during practice, Rokseo suddenly gained enlightenment and was advancing to a new level.
People had no choice but to be surprised by the sudden change of character, as if he had made a contract with a demon.
Therefore, students everywhere began to stir.
Professor Sleeper cast a soundproof magic around Rokseo.
“Everybody quiet!!! It’s a critical moment of gaining enlightenment for your peer. What’s all the noise for!!”
Whether he liked it or not, he made sure that there was no disturbance for the student who was gaining insight.
Professor Sleeper’s perception of Rokseo wasn’t particularly good, but he voted for the side that wanted to observe Rokseo more.
No matter how annoying the student was, since he had lectured him once, Rokseo was his pupil.
It seemed as though the hateful pupil was really trying to change.
He said he has almost finished the punishment given by the academy.
‘I thought the boy had changed a bit, but I didn’t expect him to change this much.’
The professor looked at Rokseo who was faintly shimmering in hues of faint blue light and something in crimson and sepia.
One of the objectives of this class was to understand the essence of a buff and to enhance one’s own power.
Because he was showing pre-signs of enlightenment in line with the intention of the class, the professor couldn’t help but feel proud.
However.
‘…Did he really not learn anything, so after mastering a bit, he’s going into enlightenment mode?’
A character at level 1 killing a monster at a level 20 hunting ground.
It reminded him of a character whose level suddenly shoots up.
Because he was such a poor student, having learned one thing, he wondered if he was now gaining insight.
‘Nah, it can’t be the so-called fifth awakening, also known as the demon’s wall…’
Or was it something more, wondered the clueless Professor Sleeper.
But it was still gratifying to see that a student who was continuously considered incompetent seemed to have pulled himself together.
No matter if a level 1 might slay a level 20 monster and attain enlightenment now.
Even just a level 1 digesting a lesson from a level 20 was impressive.
Of course, from Rika’s perspective, she used this class to check whether that bastard remembered their promise or not.
“…Rotten guy.”
She was so upset she was on the verge of tears.
Contrary to his cold face and dead eyes, his heart was fragile. She had been deeply hurt by Roxer’s actions for a long time and was extremely upset.
Just when she thought they could finally have a conversation, he cowardly fled through an epiphany.
Rika, who was like a detective failing to catch a criminal escaping across the border, was gritting her teeth.
She was frustrated at her childhood friend, who always confided in her when something happened, but as of late, was ignoring her without even explaining why he had changed.
As she was puffing her cheeks in frustration and quietly clutching Roxer’s trouser leg,
“Rika! Let him go for now, let’s continue the practicals!”
Eryn, noticing Rika’s emotional turmoil, promptly grabbed her hand.
She seemed to expect the professor to not interrupt Roxer, who was experiencing the awakening, and so she cast a soundproof spell.
Rika, looking at Roxer with a strange expression, must’ve been anticipating her next move out of concern.
Although she was still displeased with Roxer.
She didn’t want to see Rika get scolded for touching Roxer, whom Professor Slipper said not to disturb.
“…Alright.”
Rika sighed as she put something down and continued the exercise with Eryn and Jane.
Swallowing her bitter feelings during the class, she tried to keep a straight face.
Eryn was irresistibly trying to cheer Rika up somehow.
And then.
‘I wonder exactly what kind of epiphany that new student Roxer had?’
Jane, who had an epiphany a few days ago while running with Roxer through the Q&A about the Gem Golem.
She thought that he was no ordinary person given he singlehandedly overcame the wall that she could not, regardless of anyone’s opinion of him.
She was at a level where she wanted to try a swordfight with him.
Even Jane was curious about Roxer, who was immersed in the use, compression, and conversion of power in a trance while harboring a mysterious power that not even she could measure.
‘Initially he just used his superior spatial abilities to sneakily bypass the academy evaluations. But then he suddenly started wielding a sword… Did he have some special training or what?’
Jane was contemplating having a conversation with Roxer.
Not only Jane, but even the students and professors at the Awakened Academy wanted to talk to Roxer.
However, Roxer would always stay on his own unless the conversation was absolutely necessary.
‘Harmonise the power of space manipulation within my body….’
Professor Slipper had cast a soundproof spell so no external noise could be heard, so he forgot about that.
Deeply focused on creating his skill, he briefly forgot about Rika and Jane, who threatened him earlier.
Just like when one can lose track of time when deeply focused on something for just a moment.
Unaware of the time swiftly passing, he was deeply engrossed until….
“Sigh….”
Just before reaching the culmination point of creating his skill and awakening for the second time, Roxer sighed as he felt something was lacking.
There was just one more step to go, but something was missing.
Nevertheless, his body was still shrouded with blue gossamer threads, which were changing between scarlet and purple just like a cocoon.
This was proof that the process of his awakening was still ongoing.
The problem was that his body felt three times heavier than usual because he was maintaining this state through the use of his power.
His body was abnormal as if he was hanging from a wall of awakening that he couldn’t cross.
If he gave up here, he would fall back down, but if he endured and moved forward, he could cross the wall of awakening.
What’s worse, the next class was a special entity subjugation practice session, which is held until Friday afternoon throughout the night.
Despite being weakened like a bug which has just shed its skin, he would have to participate in the Awakened Academy’s practical class, which is heavily focused on real combat situations.
‘… It could be fun?!’
Rather, with a pleased expression, Roxer chuckled at the thought.
“Ahem, Student Roxer.”
Professor Slipper, who had removed the soundproof spell around Roxer.
He approached and started a conversation while adjusting the rim of his glasses with a posture that looked like he was going to teach him how to play basketball well.
‘Is he going to tell me it’s easier if I give up?’
Looking at Professor Sleeper who was making him lost in strange thoughts, Roxer refocused and finally looked around.
The next class had already started and the students were gone. Only Professor Sleeper was waiting for him.
“You’re close to the realization threshold. Keep going!”
Professor Sleeper walked out of the classroom, leaving those words of encouragement behind to his student who was repugnant yet transforming, with a sly smile.
“Thank you, Professor.”
Unlike before, Roxer responded by bowing his head.
Professor Sleeper was already satisfied just with the fact that Roxer’s character had improved. As he was about to leave the classroom, he noticed something.
“Huh? You guys, tell me you’re not waiting for Roxer?”
He tilted his head in surprise, discovering the students who had been waiting for Roxer all this time.
