chapter 17
17. Over Clock
An expansive space soaked in crimson light from holy blood.
The residue of a massive explosion burned the floor black and swept the monsters away.
The prickling smell of volcanic ash.
And then,
“Hey, kids…! Snap out of it!! Open your eyes!!”
As if they were blown away by the shockwave and rolling on the floor in a battered state.
Erin, who is trying to save the dying students, their bodies and weapons shattered, without a place unharmed.
She too, swept up in the metallic-bladed explosion sparked by the villain, was charred.
Blood leaking from her arms and under her cheeks spread onto her tattered black battle suit.
Having used too much magic in the previous battle,
Erin and the fallen students’ battle suits could not function properly.
She tried to use recovery magic somehow, clutching at the lifeline of the fallen students,
But there was little magic left to defend against the villain’s attack and the previous battle.
The faint healing light shimmering from Erin’s hands kept dwindling, akin to a dying candle.
If they carried on like this, seeing the images of freshmen crossing over a river from which there was no return, Erin gritted her teeth in despair.
“I can’t focus on the fight.”
“Ghr…!!”
Jane, currently engaged in battle, perspired as she grappled to contain the daunting enemy, Villun.
“But it ends now!!!”
Villun, introducing himself as Jerum from the 6th rank assassination team of the Disanerd Guild, once again caused an explosion in the air.
“Li, Lica!!!!”
Lica, who had fiercely resisted Villun, was directly hit by the explosion, coughing blood as she tumbled in mid-air.
Just when Erin managed to get up, screaming at the sight of the agonizing Lica,
“Eh…?”
She found a bag filled with several purple, low-grade Elixirs in her hand.
For some unknown reason, Roxer had moved forward before a baffled Erin.
Roxer, with a hardened expression, managed to catch Lica as she fell from the gruesome setting.
His slender body lacked a single place that wasn’t wounded, and his suit, similar to a battle coat, was soaked in blood.
Lica, barely breathing, looked at him with one opened, dying, crimson eye.
“…Why did you come here, you idiot….”
Her voice, faint and quivering, emerged as though her throat was blocked, a worrying note accompanying her words.
Her damaged self shook as she extended a trembling hand toward Roxer’s stiff face.
Just as Lica blocked Villun with all her strength, Roxer, who had reached an understanding, exerted himself to use spatial movement despite his difficulty to even move a finger.
“I came to repay the favor.”
He grasped her bloodstained hand as though replying to Lica’s cry meant to protect him and those behind.
“…Idiot… escape quickly….”
Despite her physical torment, Lica worried for him.
‘Maybe your cry was to protect me.’
Roxer thought that Lica was trying to harm him due to her inability to remember an unknown promise.
At first, he doubted such a possibility, but.
He finally realized upon witnessing Lica’s shocking determination in her cry and her dying red eyes, which worried about him despite her injuries.
“…Leave… at least you live…”
She had fought to this point to protect him.
He had always distanced himself assuming she wanted to harm him.
And even now, she worried for him, her lips faintly quivering as she spoke.
“Kyahahahaha!!! What’s this~? Did you fight like that for this?? Kuh!! It’s youth. Youth!!”
Villun Jerome, who mocked them from afar while casually clapping like a seal, seemed wary of Roxer.
‘What’s that? That fluffy thing around his body… purple? Crimson? Spider web-like?’
Jerome, who could generally gauge an enemy’s combat power due to having fought numerous battles, couldn’t estimate it because of the strange power covering the newcomer.
Since the most dangerous thing was an unknown threat, Jerome, acting cautious, began to provoke.
“Well then! Let’s not have a wedding, instead a joint funeral~! Kyahahahahaha!!!”
Roxer’s impenetrable expression remained as he gently released Lica’s trembling hand.
He summoned two violet low-grade Elixirs from the air.
One, he sprinkled on Lica who was barely holding onto her life and with the other,
“Lica, can you drink this?”
“…….”
She weakly nodded, and he brought it to her mouth.
Her complexion improved sharply.
‘Is it because of the difficulty level…. it should have made her better instantly, but the speed is slower.’
Roxer had always drunk only the lower-grade energy potions.
He hadn’t noticed the slow recovery due to the increased difficulty.
However, even though he had consumed an elixir in this operation which was supposed to cure instantly any fainting or abnormal conditions.
“This, this is…”
Rika, who had barely caught her breath, started to recover slowly, but the speed was markedly slow.
“Eh? Is that an elixir? Kyaa~ As expected, only the rich can afford to go to the Awakened Academy! Give me too!!!”
As he scraped their nerves with his words, a purple elixir bottle instantly flew to him.
‘…it’s fast!’
The elixir bottle he couldn’t avoid shattered on the mask he had on his face.
“Kahahahaha!!! I didn’t know I’d have to drink an elixir like this!! Oh, oh, oh!!! The power is overflowing!!!”
Seeing the spilled purple elixir seeping into his body, it started to heal where Rika’s black dagger had struck him.
“Don’t die too quickly.”
Roxer suddenly challenged the villain, who was shouting for joy.
In that instant, the villain Jerome felt like he heard something wrong and after a few seconds passed,
“This! This! You’re quite an interesting fellow! Kahahahaha!!!”
He realized that the thrown elixir bottle was a taunt that seemed like an act of mercy, and he knocked his forehead as if he found it amusing.
Now, Roxer, who has long been tending to the injured students, approached Erin, who had been feeding the students the lower-grade elixirs.
Erin was too busy feeding the students the elixirs that she forgot to drink one herself.
Blood was still gushing out from her small, fern-like hand.
As Roxer who went to Erin’s side put down Rika, he handed Erin a few more lower-grade elixir bottles.
“…where did you get these…?”
Erin was using the lower-grade elixirs brought by Roxer for now to save the students.
Erin couldn’t help but be surprised and looked up at him with many questions and emotions in her green eyes.
“Erin, you should drink it too. Don’t get hurt.”
Rika held Roxer, intending to stop him from leaving, after he had placed her beside Erin.
Roxer gently stroked Rika’s head to reassure her.
The promise he didn’t know.
His heart rate skyrocketed, his fury mixed with the vertiginous shaking of his fists.
Knowing what he had to do, Roxer looked into Rika’s eyes and opened his mouth.
“Rika, I’ll fight for you now.”
To Rika’s eyes, Roxer looked as if he was moving forward to keep the promise to protect each other.
After observing Rika and the villain’s fight and gaining the final realization for awakening, Roxer walked towards the villain.
The villain’s murderous intent and pressure were unlike any of the enemies he had met before.
“Oh my~ Have you finished playing house, little friends? Oh my, oh my~! Kahahahaha!!!”
The villain’s murderous intent, which even made one forget his comical appearance, made it clearly evident that he was specialized in slaughters and one-on-one battles.
“Now let’s play with me!!!”
The blade of magic launched from his arm at an incredible speed as if it was a casual greeting.
Like the narrowly sharp blade that was coming at an eerie speed.
He heard the heart pounding fear of death from the overpowering adversary.
But he wasn’t scared.
The chilling thrill brought on by the adrenaline rush.
The fury felt upon seeing Rika, who had fought to protect him.
And the realization gained by observing the villain moving at an eerie speed.
“Yes, that’s it.”
The villain, who had magic wrapped around his body like a textile, accelerated his movements and projectiles.
A wrong application could hinder the movement, but.
The villain, who adapted the magic to suit his body, compressed, and transformed it, and accelerated it.
‘The things wrapped around my body were the same.’
It had hardened the movement like a cocoon.
The blue thread weighed down as if it were too heavy for a finger to flick.
Moving as if the body was bound in iron, every movement a struggle.
The crimson and violet spider web that made even breathing a challenge.
The hindrances to his body’s movements were in fact…
“Ha-ha! You dodged that just by slightly tilting your neck, impressive! Very impressive! hahahahaha!!!”
…not affecting his movements at all.
Like Luxor evading a blade just by tilting his head, hearing the villain’s delighted, almost screeching laughter.
Even when he shattered the magical suicide bomb next to Taesuk.
Or like now, easily avoiding the oddly swift dagger.
‘It was due to these things wrapping my body that I became faster.’
The reason his body was rigid as a chrysalis and wrapped around like iron, making it difficult to move, was because he hadn’t entirely gotten the realisation.
His quickened body and mind could not find harmony, hence the feeling.
From the beginning, the blue thread and violet spider web enveloping his body…
were by-products born in the process of acquiring realization for skillizing ‘Time Acceleration’.
‘Even though the skill through Time Acceleration is complete…
it’s not properly functioning because I still haven’t adjusted it to fit my body.
It’s draining more power because it’s running outside my body…!’
As soon as Luxor reached complete realisation.
——
Thanks to the realization, a part of ◆ Spatiotemporal Manipulation was fully absorbed into the body, and a secondary awakening occurred. A part of the absorbed power turns into a “skill”.
——
The status window appeared, and the things enveloping his body were absorbed into him.
The blue shell and crimson-web that were enveloping his body turned into a silver shell.
“Aw-awakening?!?”
Before the startled villain Jerome could adjust his posture,
Bang-!!! A pure white shockwave erupted from Luxor like a halo.
Riding the shockwaves like a halo, the silver shells that were covering him scattered in the void like tiny parts.
Behind the silver parts that covered Jerome’s vision momentarily,
Luxor, whose blond hair and red eyes were starting to blacken from the tips, slowly lifted his head amidst the shockwaves.
——
Acquired the skill “Over Clock”.
——
He fixed his sharp gaze on the confused villain.
“Do you think anything changes if you alter the colour?”
Contrarily to his mocking shout, Jerome, who sensed the threat, pulled out numerous magic-formed, sharp, razor-like blades from all over his body.
He directly lobbed multiple metallic, explosive-filled blades towards him.
Packed within an eerie black magical spark as if bombarding him.
‘Over… Clock.’
As soon as Luxor, who drew a snow-white double-edged sword from thin air, used his skill,
Kwaaa…!!! The black metallic explosions bursting in all directions froze as if time had stopped.
Dragging each step, making the earth scream under him.
A vermilion lightning swirled in the void,
“…!!! hahahahaha!! So fast it’s breathtaking!!!”
Luxor, who had evaded all the metallic black explosions and stood behind him, shaped his snow-white double-edged sword like a crescent moon.
Scraping his sword against the ground and marking a black crescent with something unidentifiable.
‘It’s an incredible speed! I need to pull more magic…! hahahahaha!! It’s too fun!?’
The moment Jerome turned towards him, who was standing behind after dodging all the explosions.
“….Argggh!!!!”
A deep cross-shaped wound ripped Jerome’s body, making him scream in pain.
“Don’t die too quickly.”
“H-how…! How did you move at such speed…!!!”
As The Villain desperately created distance, Loxer readjusted his grip on his sword.
“Because my time surpasses yours.”
For an instant, a white flash, similar to a shattered mirror, filled the space from every direction.
“Gaaah!!!!”
Behind Loxer, who was gasping, the Villain’s body, corroded by magic, gushed out a black liquid.
