Chapter 24 - Good Stuff
Ophelia’s POV
“…Sly little devil.”
“What?”
“Nothing.”
What’s with this random comment?
For some reason, Orca seemed displeased.
But that’s not important right now.
I grabbed Orca’s shoulders and shook them excitedly.
“Stop saying weird things and look at that! Isn’t it amazing?!”
“…Oh, yeah. It’s impressive.”
“What kind of reaction is that! He just sliced through that thick wall!”
I couldn’t understand Orca’s reaction at all.
How could anyone be so nonchalant about this?
How can you stay so indifferent after seeing someone do what should be impossible – attacking from a distance with a sword?
Everyone else is impressed, come on. Be impressed.
It’s so cool!
“If you want to attack from a distance, why not just use a gun or magic instead of going through all that trouble? I don’t get why you’re so excited.”
“…I cannot accept those words.”
“Huh?”
Yes. As Orca says, being able to attack from a distance with a sword is extremely inefficient.
While it’s true that someone who can use sword aura is much stronger than someone who uses a gun, it’s not because of the distance advantage.
Between a swordsman and a gunman, there exists a huge gap.
The time it takes to learn sword aura can be measured in years.
Compared to that, what about guns? While you might not be able to aim properly, even a middle school student could fire one.
Nothing of what Orca said was wrong.
If you want to attack from a distance, it would be much easier to get a gun or learn magic.
Rather than going through the trouble of manipulating mana to shoot sword aura.
…But that’s exactly why everyone is excited about sword aura.
“The fact that sword aura is a garbage technique with terrible accessibility… is true. I’ll admit that.”
“…I didn’t go that far.”
“But listen! Useless things are what’s cool!”
She doesn’t understand. What defines cool!
“Two-handed swords, scythes, bare fists… all completely inefficient garbage!”
“…”
“Those weapons are what romanization in combat is about! Cool things are born from items that seem impossible to use in actual combat!”
Take Orca, for example.
In a world full of guns, swords, and magic, you just knock down enemies with nothing but a demon’s arm.
How cool is that?
Of course, that’s not to say efficient weapons aren’t cool.
But the things that drive people crazy, that leave a deep impression in their hearts, are usually found in things others won’t even try.
I opened my mouth to explain to Orca just how cool sword aura technique is.
If it weren’t for the hand suddenly tapping my shoulder, I probably would have kept explaining about sword aura to Orca for a while.
“Hello, Teacher Ophelia.”
“…Ah. Teacher Ian? Hello.”
A familiar face.
Teacher Ian. I met him when preparing for the friendly match.
…And not just in reality, I met him often in the game too. The academy’s swordsmanship instructor. An NPC you often meet when playing as Leo or Eileen.
“While your passion is interesting, Teacher Ophelia… perhaps you should restrain yourself a bit right now?”
“What?”
When he gestured behind me as if telling me to look, I turned around.
…And immediately regretted it.
I shouldn’t have looked.
“So the counseling teacher is this kind of person…”
“Unexpected. I thought she wasn’t interested in these things.”
“…”
The students were whispering while looking at me.
Did they hear everything I was saying to Orca?
My face turned red as I noticed their gazes, looking at me as if they’d seen something strange.
“We are teachers, after all. It’s not good to get too excited.”
“Ah, ah, ah, ahhh…”
“…Teacher Ophelia?”
My mind went blank.
I’ve done it. I’ve really done it.
What have I done? Of course everyone would hear if I shouted like that with so many people around.
I couldn’t think of how to fix this situation.
My blanked-out mind could only think that I needed to somehow resolve this situation.
I quickly turned my head to meet the students’ eyes.
I felt like my reddened face was reflected in their eyes.
…Though that must be my imagination.
“There’s nothing to be embarrassed about, Teacher. Now, calm down and let’s go ba…”
“Forget everything! Forget all of it! Understand!?”
“Yes… we’ll forget everything…”
“All of you were just thinking how amazing Leo’s victory was! Nothing else happened just now!”
Huff, huff.
After shouting loudly, I looked around with fire in my eyes.
Making sure no one had escaped the hypnosis.
“…Good. Now, when you open your eyes, you’ll all feel tired!”
Fortunately, everyone had that characteristic dazed look of people under hypnosis.
…I got too excited.
Deciding to pretend nothing happened, I clapped loudly to wake everyone up.
“Uh, umm…”
“Yawn… I’m sleepy. Maybe I should go to bed…”
The students started moving to go to bed early, thinking they had just dozed off because they were tired. The same went for Orca. Under hypnosis and feeling tired, She started urging me.
“…Teacher. I’m sleepy.”
“Alright. Shall we go to the counseling room together once Leo arrives?”
…Perfect. According to plan.
I cleanly erased the recent incident from everyone’s memories.
It’s a bit sad that Orca thinks sword aura is useless, but I couldn’t leave that embarrassing history intact.
Sorry, Orca. Let’s talk about coolness next time…
“Teacher, did you see?!”
“Of course. You were very cool. Well done.”
“Hehe…”
After the small incident ended, Leo came running toward us.
It was nice to see him happy when I praised him, looking like he wanted to proudly show off what he’d accomplished.
“Um… Teacher.”
“Yes?”
“You said… you’d give me something nice…”
“Ah, right. I almost forgot.”
“…”
“Orca? What’s wrong?”
“…Nothing.”
What’s wrong with Orca?
She seems upset about something, but I can’t figure out why.
Was there something that could have offended Orca?
“Ahem, well then, please close your eyes!”
“M-My eyes?”
“Yes! Like a surprise!”
“…”
Leo gulped.
His expression showed he was curious about what he would receive.
But since it wouldn’t be fun to give it right away, I waited for Leo to close his eyes.
Finally, I gently took Leo’s hand when he reluctantly closed his eyes.
“?!”
“Oh my, your hands are quite sweaty. Do you have hyperhidrosis?”
Leo’s hands were drenched in sweat.
…It seems Leo has hyperhidrosis. I didn’t know that.
I’m impressed that Leo aims to be a knight despite having hyperhidrosis in his hands, which must make it difficult to grip a sword.
“Why are you so nervous?”
“T-That’s…”
“Relax. It’s something nice.”
As soon as I finished speaking, Leo’s body became even more rigid.
Why is he like this?
Though I felt puzzled by Leo’s behavior, not knowing the reason, I placed the nice thing in his hand.
“Now, open your eyes.”
“…?”
Maybe it was because he felt the sensation of the object placed in his hand.
Leo looked at me as if wondering what this was.
“Teacher, this envelope…”
“It’s something nice. Want to open it?”
“Ah, yes…”
…Why does he look disappointed before even opening the envelope?
Leo’s acting strange today. He was so cool just a moment ago.
Leo, who was opening the envelope with a somewhat gloomy expression, suddenly looked at me in surprise.
“T-Teacher. This…”
“…What’s so surprising? Let me see too.”
Perhaps curious about Leo’s reaction.
Orca peeked into the envelope in Leo’s hand and was surprised.
Hehe, of course they’re surprised. I even had to ask the principal for help to get these.
“Meal tickets? Wow. There’s so many. How many are there?”
“Hmm… Enough to last three years with some left over.”
“Must have been expensive.”
“Not necessarily. These aren’t the expensive kind.”
Whether it’s because this academy is used by both commoners and nobles, or because this is a game world. In this world, even meal tickets are divided into tiers.
You know, like those systems you often see in games. Systems where food acts like a buff.
It was the same in the game I played.
Expensive ones are foods mainly eaten by nobles, cheap ones are foods mainly eaten by commoners. That’s roughly how the grades were divided.
I wanted to give him three years’ worth of the highest grade tickets, but the principal said that wasn’t possible.
She said they don’t issue many of those tickets because not many people buy them.
Because the students are quite capable, they make them complex to prevent potential forgery, so they can’t give out the highest grade ones.
Honestly, I thought it was ridiculous to worry about forging mere meal tickets, but I understood immediately after the principal showed me a video of what she meant.
It looked like one meal would cost hundreds.
Of course they need to prevent forgery, yeah sounds about right…
“So? Do you like it?”
“…Yes, thank you.”
Of course, since Leo’s appetite is beyond imagination, these three years’ worth of meal tickets probably won’t actually last three years.
Maybe… if he always uses meal tickets, they might last about half a year at most?
Still, in terms of stopping money from leaking away like water for half a year, it should be a very good reward for him.
…But why does he seem slightly disappointed?
Am I imagining it?
TL CORNER:
I was confused on chapter 23 on why Orca was thinking of lewd stuff, so I had to re read the chapter’s raws. I fixed the errors, since it was apparently Leo that was thinking that way. If you have any concerns with translation errors, feel free to address them to me and I will fix them.
New Schedule (this is fr ;-;): M,T,W,F,S (No Sunday and Thursdays) I will be dropping the chapters I owe you guys (as i said in the discord) tomorrow too. Thats all :> -Mhoki
hyperhidrosis: it is the excessive sweating that is not related to exercise or heat.
