*First Person POV: Ajax*

I was about to walk into the meeting room when I was immediately greeted by 2 guards who stopped me in my tracks.

"Let him in, he's a part of this, whether I like it or not," a man's voice came from inside the meeting room which caused the 2 guards to move out of the way.

I walked inside and saw a tall blonde man, about 6 foot 3 inches, with quite a muscular physique and a shaved face and low buzzcut. The typical military, no-nonsense type of man. He was dressed in a black tank top with a star on his left shoulder and black and yellow pants with a star at the center.

"Ajax," the man said as he nodded to me.

"Victor," I replied as I nodded back.

A few things had been going on over the past month. Valina had been able to maintain her facade in front of the others, the sharp emotionless leader. But when we were alone, she broke down. She chugged down bottles of alcohol like someone who had been dying of thirst. She cried, her sense of failure after Elara and Kai had been killed was eating away at her.

It had been 3 weeks since they had been killed and Valina hadn't been able to recover, her situation being made even worse due to the fact that we had not been able to gather a single clue on who could have possibly taken them out. So I had to do something in her stead, I reached out to her father.

He listened with a stoic face to my request, though I could tell he was fighting back tears after hearing of Valina's current state. In the end, he agreed and dispatched Valina's older brother, Victor, along with 40 Delta-level pilots in tier 2 mechs of varying classes and 2 personal guards of Beta-level with their Tier 4 mechs.

Victor was the typical by-the-line type of man, a true-born soldier who followed his father's commands without questions. He was a Gamma-level pilot who, alongside the 2 personal guards, piloted a Reaper-class mech, though it was only a tier 3.

It took them a week to arrive on the planet, and well, they were here to bring to their knees whoever had decided it to be a smart idea to mess with people belonging to the Volkov family, specifically with the daughter of one of its family branch heads, Vance Volkov.

"Have a seat," I was snapped back from my thoughts by Victor's gesture to sit next to Renzo and Mateo.

Valina walked in a few seconds after I sat down and just froze when she saw Victor. Yeah, maybe I forgot to tell her about him.

"Why are you here?" Valina asked Victor.

"Sister," Victor nodded at her. "Father sent me to help you and your people out. If you have any qualms with this, then take it up with him."

Valina clenched her hands into fists but nodded. "I understand," she said as she took a seat next to me.

"I've been briefed on the situation at hand," Victor started as he turned to the screen behind him. "My people have already started to investigate the happenings. Your men were taken out on their way back from Kloln and according to the evidence your people have gathered, it seems they were ambushed."

Victor waved his hand as images appeared of Kai's and Elara's MRAP.

"However, my people have found new information that may be vital to this. Not too far away, just about 1.5 to 2 kilometers from the scene, .57BMG caliber casings were found." As he said this the images shifted to 6 shell casings spread a few meters apart from each other on the side of the road.

"They match the same .57BMG casing your people found on the scene." Victor stopped and waved his hand once again, the images shifting to those of holes in the road. "Apart from that, we found these holes about a kilometer from the scene. I've confirmed them to be bullet impacts."

Valina shifted in her chair at this information. "There's no way we overlooked something so crucial."

"But you did," Victor responded. "I've come to the conclusion that your people were followed from Kloln and not ambushed as you think."

Valina stood up abruptly, brushing against my arm and almost making me spill my coffee. "But what about the railgun shots on the-"

"They were done after the matter had been handled," Victor interrupted her. "Some fine work, unfortunately, they didn't pay attention to the casings and ignored the damage to the surroundings the shouts would cause."

"Or maybe they just didn't think we were going to spend too many resources on investigating this," I say, giving in my piece.

"Maybe," Victor says. "But the fact of the matter is that they left some clues, and you lot missed them. Has there been anyone with whom you've had conflicts recently? Around the time that this happened."

Valina sat back down in her chair, seemingly lost.

"Yeh, there's this prick we've been hunting, but the bastards disappeared with no trace left behind," Renzo spoke up this time.

"Oh, indulge me, just who might this be?" Victor asked.

"His name is Aspen, Aspen Del Santo" I replied.

"Yeah, Judas over here held a grudge over a girl and decided the best course of action would be to betray him and join us. Worked out in our favor, so no complaints from me, we put down their little resistance that was starting to become annoying. But that bastard's probably dead somewhere, no way he could have survived with his injuries," Renzo added.

"There's also this pair of mercs, but I doubt they did it, no benefit in it for them. They go by Ghost and Reaper. I've been keeping tabs on them and they just seem to be trying to make some money and live it up," Mateo answered.

"Mhm, Aspen Del Santos, Ghost, and Reaper. Any names for the two self-proclaimed soldiers of death?" Victor asked.

"Yeah," Mateo said as he stood up and walked to the screen with a tablet in hand. "Reaper goes by the name of Azrael Fallcrest and the other, Ghost, is his brother, Riley Fallcrest. Neither of their biometrics had ever been on the registry, having recently paid to have their names registered."

"So two wasteland babies and a dead man," Victors sighed.

"The two wasteland babies, as you called them, had a single interaction with Kai and Elara, one in which, Kai and Elara were manhandled," I said. "They were clearly heavily augmented pilots, we offered them a job, they sent our two soldiers packing with an ass-whooping that was accompanied by a warning stating they wanted nothing to do with us."

"Mhm," Victor nodded. "So it seems you guys have a dead man walking and with a deep desire for revenge. These two have no reason to take action, but the Aspen you are talking about sounds like he does. But this…Azrael, he seems to look like your Aspen, even if slightly."

Victor inspected the images of Aspen and Azreal side to side. "Eye color seems to have changed. Aspen has green, this guy has Hazel. Apart from that, this guy has some nasty scars that don't seem to be fresh. What. A. Fucking. Conundrum."

Victor thought for a second, "I'll have some of my pilots investigate these two." He turned to the 2 guards at the entrance. "Send a team of 8 pilots them, have them make contact, but don't be dickheads about it. I want to have a chat with the two of them if possible, especially with Azrael…"

"Yes, sir!" The two guards saluted and left us to give their people the assignment.

*POV SHIFT; Third Person POV: Aspen*

Aspen lay on his bed twirling a cable in his fingers after returning from one of his meetings with Jarv and his construction crew. Things had been going by smoothly and they had already restored the old building and added a penthouse on top of the 14th floor making the structure about 16 stories tall now.

However, that was it. The building maintained its skeletal appearance with no other work having been done to it. Aspen had spent the previous 4 days developing new wiring that would be more efficient and powerful without consuming as much energy. He had handed Jarv the amount needed for the building during their meeting. It was quite the amount of wiring, but it was lightweight and coiled up.

Aspen opened up his system shop and started at one of the options: Body Optimization Reagent. Increase current muscle density by 3.5x and a few other side effects. Price: 20,000 CSP

In short, it was a strength reagent that would increase his current strength by 3.5x its current value propelling his strength far into the field of the supersoldier he currently was. Aspen then shifted his eyes to look at another screen with the nanobots in his body. They had been useless but something was gnawing at him to upgrade them.

Healing Nanobots:

Stage 1, Faster healing. Full injury recovery that would previously take 24 hours with the help of nanobots decreased to 1 hour (Prominent scars form after recovery. Requires help outside of nanobots): 1,000 CSP.

Stage 2, Superb healing. Full injury recovery that would previously take 1 hour with the help of nanobots decreased to 10 minutes (Noticeable but smaller scars than in Stage 1, Can start closing large wounds while stabilizing internal damage): 10,000 CSP.

Stage 3, Instantaneous Healing. Full injury recovery that would previously take 10 minutes with the help of nanobots decreased to seconds varying on injury level (Minimal but present; scar tissue may form over large trauma areas or reattached limbs. Cannot repair injuries beyond repairable physical structure like brain death or total organ vaporization): 100,000 CSP.

"Screw it, why not," Aspen sighed as he fully upgraded the nanobots from Stage 0 to Stage 3. As he did, he felt an electric shock run through his body. "That feels eerily refreshing." He then purchased the Muscle Density Reagent and sighed as his CSP balance dropped to 51,119.

The reagent materialized in his hand in the form of a syringe and he promptly injected it. He felt his muscles burn throughout his entire body and ground his teeth in pain, but he made no sound.

"Huff, huff, Jesus!" Aspen exclaimed once the process had been finalized. It had only been 10 seconds, but to Aspen, it felt like an eternity. When he stood up, he felt awkward. "Why do I feel… taller?"

Aspen walked to a mirror and stared, his breath catching in his throat as his reflection revealed the changes. His once-lean yet toned frame had transformed. His shoulders were broader, stretching the fabric of his shirt, and his chest was more pronounced, the muscles beneath his skin well-defined but not overly exaggerated.

His arms became thicker, yet they held a balance of power and agility, his veins faintly visible across his forearms. His torso tapered into a narrow waist and the faint outlines of his abs were visible even beneath the fabric of his shirt. His legs were no exception to the transformation as they appeared to exude a sense of raw power.

Aspen's gaze moved upward, catching the subtle change in his posture. He stood straighter, his spine perfectly aligned, adding to the sense of height that felt foreign to him. His head almost brushed the top of the mirror now—an undeniable indicator of his new stature.

From six feet tall, he had grown to six-three. His hair had grown longer and past his shoulders and had become sandy brown from his previously dark brown. His beard became thicker and just like his hair, sandy brown. His scars were still present and his eyes had become a light-blue hazel.

"I guess I need new clothes," he muttered, his voice low as he inspected himself. "Jarvis, what's my status?"

A screen formed in front of him with his stats:

STR: 60 -> 210 (Normal Human Average 15-20)

END: 100 -> 120 (Normal Human Average 15-20)

AGI: 80 ->180 (Normal Human Average 15-20)

PER: 35 -> 80 (Normal Human Average 15-20)

INT: 90 (Normal Human Average 7-10) The Host has the most brilliant mind to ever exist, however, he hasn't developed it. The Host needs to learn information about this universe to increase intelligence.

MRES: 95 (Normal Human Average 10-15)

TECH: 90 (Normal Human Average 15-20)

"Hmm, quite the boost," Aspen said as he scratched his beard. "It's a given that my strength and agility would increase, but I did not expect my perception and endruance to increase. But no complaints here."

Aspen walked out of his room and started preparing himself a coffee when Ghost came out of his room and saw his back.

"Who the…? Motherfucker put your hands up or I'll blow your brains out," Ghost called out to Aspen's back.

"Simon, calm down, it's me," Aspen replied as he slowly turned around with his hands raised.

"How in the fu…." Ghost trailed off as he lowered his gun. "Let me guess, all… this," he said as he looked Aspen up and down, "is a result of one of your God's powers or something."

"No, but you're not entirely wrong," Aspen replied with a smile that quickly turned to a frown.

*THUD, THUD, THUD,*

Loud knocking was heard coming from the door followed by a man's voice.

"Ghost and Reaper, open up, we know you're in there."

*THUD, THUD, THUD,*

Aspen quickly opened up his system shop and bought another Body Optimization Reagent, leaving him with only 31,119 CSp and injected it into Ghost's arm, quickly wrapping his hands over Ghost's mouth as Ghost started to writhe in pain.

*THUD, THUD, THUD,*

"Open the fucking door or we'll break it open!"

*THUD, THUD, THUD,*

"I won't ask again," the man called out.

Just then, Ghost's transformation finished and he had become taller, though not by much. He had grown to six foot two inches, his muscles similar to Aspens, though slightly leaner. His hair grew a little longer ruining his perfect buzzcut and his beard transformed grew thicker, but not longer. Ghost's hair changed color from black to an auburn-brown his stat's also transformed:

STR: 30 -> 105

END: 60 -> 85

AGI: 70 -> 130

PER: 45 -> 80

INT: 35

MRES: 80

TECH: 40

Just when the man outside was about to order for the door to be knocked down, Aspen opened it and grabbed the man by his collar with one hand, putting the barrel of his pistol below the man's jaw.

"The fuck you banging on my door like you own the place and the fuck do you want from us?"
