I Became the Dark Wizard Who Rules Over the Heroines

chapter 7

7 – Admission-7

Disgust aggressively bubbled up in Caterin’s mind.

A primal, instinctive feeling of revulsion that arises when you encounter something offensive.

What was that?

She knew. She had learned several times from her family lineage about how she felt in such a situation.

Black mages, instinctively look down on other mages. They can only despise and detest them.

It is more effective to drag them down than to cooperate with them. It is wiser to destroy them than to be with them.

However, that too can only be done against an enemy of a certain level.

The investigation is over. That man is not special. His lineage and the devil he likely made a deal with are decided.

In a normal situation, he is just a pathetic human not even worth her antagonism.

There should be no need for her to be cautious.

It was natural to be cautious of him as a person who could persuade Kaelin, but there was no need to be cautious of the black mage Wade.

What did I feel, me?

With her eyes closed, she reviewed what had just happened.

Victor charged and he fired a dark arrow and knocked him down. The brawl that was expected to be intense, ended quickly.

…that arrow.

It was suppressing something. Katarin, who had contracted with Asmodeus one of the high-ranking demons, could tell.

Such a black mage of her caliber, even without the caster’s will, an ambiguous magic can affect it. The influence of the devil she contracted with overrides the magic of any ordinary devil.

She did not exert extreme influence such as outright seizing control of the magic without undergoing special procedures, but she could at least feel that it was being drawn.

And she did not feel that at all from that man’s, from Wade’s dark arrow.

Could he resist?

It’s not a big deal. There are many variables.

The devil he has a contract with might be the type that minimizes the interference of other devils, or perhaps her intuition was wrong.

If she properly pulls in his magic and tries to crush him with fear and dread, then he and his Magic too might very easily be made to kneel.

…Well, nothing can be done for now.

But, if so, she cannot achieve her goal.

That ordinary man could not have enticed Kaelin. There must be someone behind the scenes.

Even if she immediately presses him down, if she does not catch the one behind the scenes, the same thing will repeat again and again.

The possibility that a living person who is not afraid of him exists is possible, but it was impossible for that living person to entice Kaelin in an instant.

It is a much easier hypothesis to understand that the previous events happened first, and someone saw the spectacle and contacted Wade.

After all, now she had to wait. not only to find out his purpose, but also to find out the purpose of those behind the scenes.

Katarin turned her head lightly and took in the woman who was looking worriedly at him.

…that woman.

She did not have detailed information. From the moment she entered the academy, she could not help but feel as if she had lost her sight and hearing.

If it was Erst Mansion, many maids and butlers would have served as her eyes and ears, but now the only person she could use was Kaelin.

Kaelin was also unreliable in incidents involving that man. There was a small chance, but it was a situation where she could choose Wade instead of Katarin at the last moment.

But even with her eyes and ears, she could tell how this event was unfolding.

That woman was, she said, the reason for the fight…

She was a beautiful, innocent-looking woman. A woman who after a few days would likely be caught by a sleazy womanizer, her innocent eyes painted in muddy colors.

She did not dislike people like that. Stupid people are easy to use, and even if she pulls trumps through her, she won’t be suspected unless she overdoes it.

However, that was more of liking her as an easy tool to use rather than liking her as a person.

If I touched her, would she react?

She could not gauge how important Wade considered that woman, nor how precisely he could calculate his strength and that of his opponent.

But it was worth a try.

Wade’s daily life was ordinary. He wasn’t meeting strange people, nor was he trying to show something special.

His emotions were not revealed. It wouldn’t have been strange if all of this was an act, or if that’s his true nature.

Shake it up. Create a variable to reveal his true nature.

Catarina’s cold eyes were looking at Claire.

Breathe. Calmly, without losing consciousness. It’s okay if you close your eyes!

Leila treated the fallen Victor with a bright smile.

… It’s clean?

It’s a threatening attack that can subdue an adult man in an instant. Even for a rookie dark magician, the wound shouldn’t have been this clean.

Novice dark magicians often lack control over their power, regardless of its strength.

Wounds they create inevitably become dirty. Unrestrained evil creates rough scars.

But the wound on Victor’s body was disgustingly clean. The will to subdue him, neither friend nor foe, was clearly visible.

Perhaps he is warmer than I thought… In the long run, perhaps it could be dangerous for a dark magician?

Fine control and delicate magic control are important, but they are not issues for a student-level dark magician to consider.

The bolder ones are faster. And naturally, the faster ones have a higher chance of winning.

If his magic arrow had been just a bit slower, Wade might be the one losing, not Victor.

For now, this is good.

But it was an immensely grateful development for Leila, who had to deal with the problems caused by this duel.

“It’s faster than you’d expect, right? It was lucky, but don’t expect all duels to end this easily.”

Leila, having firmly warned the students, slowly absorbed the magic remaining on his neck.

This is… Quite pure?

It seems devoid of emotions. Not sticky, dirty desire, but pure magic energy reminiscent of a spirit was contained within him.

Unexpectedly, he may have contracted with a high-class demon.

Without the need to instill emotions in such fights or to offer a corresponding reward, a powerful demon willing to lend power easily might be standing behind Wade.

Having revised her evaluation of him upwards, Leila placated the students who were still in confusion.

“For a moment, you may study by yourselves! I’ll take Victor to the infirmary and come back!”

Leila, grunting as she hugged Victor’s heavy body, glanced sideways at the winner of the duel.

Casually, as if this victory was not a big deal, he returned to his seat.

Claire knew in her heart too.

Victor’s words were not wrong. Just as the words Wade spoke to her weren’t false.

Her entrance into the academy was an escape.

She had never been recognized as a family member. Maybe tomorrow, and the day after would be the same.

She wanted to make her own place. She wanted to prove that it’s okay for her to live tomorrow, to feel valued.

But there wasn’t much she could do with her clumsy determination to prove her worth no matter what.

Dorm life was not fun. Neither were the classes.

Being a nobleman’s illegitimate child was a chain suppressing her, but being a nobleman’s illegitimate child was a protection for her.

With that protection now gone, she was left with nothing.

Getting scolded might have been the right thing.

Perhaps all she could have done was to lure a high-ranking man and enter as somebody’s concubine.

However, there was someone who told her it was unnecessary.

It was alright to ignore, alright not to mind.

That man, he fought for her. He respected her opinion, saying it was her choice to make.

And, he won.

“Are you okay?”

“It’s nothing.”

Wade returned to his spot as if nothing happened.

It would have been alright to demand more, alright to boast pompously about his merit.

Yet, he seemed to want nothing from her, expression unchanged.

Perhaps, the distance between him and her wasn’t far after all.

They were in the same circumstances. The spell he used was merely a shadow arrow.

Even just two days ago, it was basic magic that couldn’t be used within lesson hours.

But he did not hesitate. He didn’t meticulously calculate how weak he was, what his winning rate was, how great the benefits he could gain from doing this act.

He just, acted.

…I can do it.

She wanted to prove he was wrong. She wanted to be an assertive person just like him.

Claire, resolved herself.
