Chapter 25
Trotsky’s ambitious plan has failed once again.
Ugh, what an idiot.
I mean, I have been ruthless against the Soviets, but isn’t that a matter of intelligence?
It’s just like fighting over power right at the brink of a national collapse.
But on the bright side, this is good for us.
Of course, Belarus seems to have gone over to the Red Army, but that resembles actual history.
It’s strange that there wasn’t a Poland-Soviet war to speak of. It seems a lot of history has changed due to British intervention.
If that’s the case, naturally we can take advantage of this after capturing the Soviets.
Stalin will certainly try hard to seize Trotsky’s position.
Just now, I received news that the Black Baron has retaken Nizhny Novgorod.
Ukraine should be stabilized by now, too.
Although there are still negotiations with Makhno and the British side. The British must know they can’t hold Ukraine for long.
And news has arrived from the Baltic, which became independent after being part of the Baltic Union due to Germany.
From Finland, it seems Nikolai Yudenich is leading the Northwestern Army formed with British support towards Petrograd.
But first.
I looked at Ungern standing before me with a proud expression.
“I heard that Colonel Ungern played a significant role in the Battle of Kyiv.”
“I could barely stand the discomfort. Yegorov. The fact that I couldn’t capture that bastard traitor who was once part of the Imperial Army remains a regret.”
“Moreover, that was a battle fought without any operational plans, right? There will be more opportunities. What’s important is that the Asian Cavalry Division has significant combat strength.”
Besides, if it weren’t for that surprise attack, we would have engaged in a grueling battle during the day.
This battle was truly lucky.
I never expected Ungern’s 5,000 cavalry division to pull this off.
They say the Red Army pressing Kyiv amounted to hundreds of thousands. Did we just poke that horde all at once?
Amidst the chaotic Red Army, Anton Denikin’s White Army swooped in seamlessly.
Of course, about half of them surrendered, but still.
The rest didn’t all get killed.
Many of them fled during that night raid. The dead weren’t as many as rumored.
Those surrendering Reds even reportedly killed or handed over political officers to survive.
The irony is here.
Patton’s Russian Army and Walter Model’s Russian Army—
Damn. Even Walter Model is here.
Is this gentleman capable of coming here?
Fortunately, Charles de Gaulle was solely focused on defense.
What is this civil war, really? Isn’t it just a scaled-down version of a world war where we’re beating down the Reds unilaterally?
Anyway, the involvement of Russian soldiers who can’t speak Russian has proven quite effective.
In the dark of night, a cavalry division of 5,000 launched a surprise attack.
They couldn’t lose, bombarding and attacking from all around, coming from Russian soldiers who couldn’t speak Russian.
Though they were a minority, being attacked at night would be quite devastating.
Moreover, this battle has definitely showcased Ungern’s abilities.
He isn’t some crazy figure from the ghost stories in history.
He’s simply a person who skillfully uses cavalry. The Mongols really did hold him in high regard.
“If Colonel Ungern is this capable, I can’t imagine how exceptional Grigory Semenov, the Mongol Vice-Governor, must be.”
Formally, he’s subordinate, isn’t he?
“Uh. That guy is something else.”
“Not so great?”
“He’s on the side of claiming that the Russian Empire is the successor of the Mongol Empire and pushing to establish the Russian-Skhitai Empire.”
“Impressive indeed.”
But doesn’t that lack a basis?
I can understand linking Mongolia and the Skitai, but still. Saying the Russian Empire succeeded the Mongol Empire is no different than claiming Goryeo succeeded the Tang Dynasty.
That guy seems a bit off his rocker.
But for now, there’s no need to worry. Let’s just keep watching.
“Your Highness. The reason you summoned us today is…”
White Army Chief of Staff Mikhail Drozdovsky began the conversation.
Yes, yes. This is what you’ve all been waiting for.
What you’ve awaited since you should have died in original history.
To achieve the grand ambitions that were thwarted by the Reds, that is what you’ve longed for.
Knowing the original history, they should be kneeling and bowing to me.
“Yes. It’s what you all have been eagerly waiting for.”
“I see.”
Finally, the time that everyone has awaited is upon us.
Now, the Red Army in Ukraine has been annihilated.
What this means is we can pressure the south of Moscow.
Pyotr Wrangel’s forces have also advanced to Nizhny Novgorod, close to Moscow.
And it seems the Northwestern Army led by Nikolai Yudenich, who retreated towards Finland, intends to march towards what will later be known as Leningrad, Petrograd (Saint Petersburg).
Then the time has come.
“Right now, the Reds in Moscow are fighting among themselves, and Nikolai Yudenich’s Northwestern Army is preparing to pressure Petrograd.”
Of course, there may be timing issues during this coordination process.
But even if that’s the case right now, it shouldn’t be difficult to coordinate since the Red Army is in shambles.
Alright, then preparations are underway.
It’s time to march on Moscow.
I won’t give Stalin a chance to seize power.
I know about Stalin, but Stalin knows nothing about me. He probably doesn’t even know how I will come at him.
We’ll strike from the south and east.
So, when opportunities arise, we must hit quickly and get in.
“Pyotr Wrangel. It seems the Black Baron’s White Army has retaken Nizhny Novgorod and gained more troops.”
The room fell silent.
Everyone had been waiting for this moment. They were simply waiting for my words, or perhaps the words of the future Tsarina.
In actual history, Moscow was at risk.
It was just that they were overwhelmed and forced back by the Red Army due to lack of strength.
In this timeline, the White Army is stronger than ever.
Trotsky’s ambitious offensive into Ukraine has dealt a near annihilating blow to the Red Army.
I bet once we clear Ukraine, we would push through to Belarus and Poland. It feels like the first button has been completely messed up.
“The Southern Russian White Army led by Anton Denikin has begun to advance north. Their Bolshevik army has been boasting everywhere about how powerless they are and is now on the verge of annihilation. Great powers are supporting us, and Jewish capitalists are backing us as well.”
The White Army even offered numerous benefits to the Jews to fight against the enemy.
They vowed not to leave any anti-Semitic sentiments behind. Whether they’re fighting on the frontlines or working in factories, those entering will be citizens of the new Russia.
This was guaranteed in the name of the Romanovs.
As a result, Jewish capitalists increased their support considerably.
Considering how the Jews sided with Japan during the Russo-Japanese War, it can be said this was a significant leap forward.
Later, we may settle a large piece of land in Asia to establish Israel. I could promise that and squeeze out more.
Everyone knows what I’m about to say.
So the key figures of the White Russian faction here are swallowing their saliva and waiting for my words.
“Everyone is helping us, and the Bolsheviks are isolated. Their army can no longer come out.”
They are likely busy with defense.
“Then finally.”
“Yes. The path to Moscow is open. We have to lead all the White Army to Moscow except for Anton Denikin’s Southern Russian Army, Nikolai Yudenich’s Northwestern Army, and the Black Baron’s Cossack White Army.”
“Yes.”
Excluding the generals on the front lines, Mikhail Drozdovsky, Roman von Ungern-Sternberg, Vasily Boldyrev, Anatoly Pepelyayev, Alexander Kolchak, and the members of the Duma present here. I drew a dagger and stabbed it down on the map of Moscow.
And then.
I finally declare.
“Let’s retake Moscow, the Third Rome, and end the Red plague.”
The time has come.
To recover Moscow and eliminate those damn names like Lenin, Stalin, and Trotsky.
The total forces of the White Army are beginning to assemble.
New-style firearms produced in factories across Yekaterinburg, Central Asia, and Southern Russia are now in the hands of the White Army, ready to catch the Reds, and even the uniforms have been fitted.
If the actual historical White Army were to see this, they would be envious of the situation.
We hadn’t been active until now, but the White Army’s air force was newly organized unlike the old Russian Imperial air force.
Those guys will probably try to seal off Moscow.
The quality of their weapons and training might be lacking, but they will try to hold out with sheer numbers. It’s still a workers’ country. Dreamers envisioning a paradise on earth are pushing the people to death to maintain the Soviet regime.
How hypocritical it is.
Do they not realize that every single act they take is destroying the legitimacy of the revolution?
This is the essence of communism.
Now, communists around the world will be greatly disturbed by this.
So this is what communism was?
Of course, the die-hard Reds will ignore this and chant “Communism!” even if their heads get smashed in.
But at least many of the sympathizers will disappear.
The Chinese Communist Party might not even show up at all.
Then, will Chiang Kai-shek’s Republic of China unify China?
Considering China’s potential, it would be ideal to intervene and tear it apart to the extent of the Warring States period. Disrupting unification during the warlord period would be best.
“What am I drinking kimchi soup for?”
China is a problem for later.
Ultimately, we will clash over the Mongolian and Manchurian issues.
The situation is essentially one where we have effectively occupied Manchuria as if it belongs to us.
It wouldn’t be too late to think about it then.
First, after retaking Moscow, establishing a new Russia is the priority.
Thus, as I began to move towards Moscow, I prepared to join Pyotr Wrangel myself.
The moment I got on my horse and started moving, I saw Oriental officials.
They couldn’t be Chinese coming to throw a tantrum for Manchuria. They wouldn’t be so neatly dressed, and there wouldn’t be any independence activists in this area, so it must be the Japanese.
Among them, there was a man in military uniform who looked oddly familiar.
“Who are they?”
“It seems they are officers sent by the Japs. They claim to have come as the new military attaché to pay respects to your Highness.”
Not to pay respects, but to probe, I guess.
Given that they can’t deploy to Siberia now, Japan must see North Manchuria falling into Russia.
So at the very least, they want to see if Russia will be an enemy or an ally. Probably due to the events of the Russo-Japanese War.
In actual history, Japan lacked the ability to seize Siberia and struggled with Red guerrillas.
How would Japan react, unaware of such struggles?
Depending on how the White Army looks, they might not aim for Siberia.
Then, I certainly cannot show a weak front.
At the very least, looking at those Japanese diplomats, they’re definitely unfamiliar figures to me.
Of course, there could be figures I don’t know since I’m not well-versed in Japanese history.
But still, one of them, that man in military uniform, seems oddly familiar.
Feeling my curiosity, the Japanese officials greeted me.
They say he’s a dispatch from the Japanese ambassador to White Russia.
And that military personnel who came along—he also looked quite familiar.
There’s no helping it then.
I approached that man.
He seemed like someone I would know quite well. Yet here he was, rather unlikely.
The one person I like and respect among those with Japanese nationality.
I walked up to that man who might be that very individual.
“Who are you?”
In response to my question, that man, presumed to be a respected figure among Koreans, straightened his posture and cautiously spoke.
“I am Mutaguchi Renya, an army captain dispatched from the Empire of Japan to the Russian Empire! I pay my respects to the Saint of All-Russian Empire, Princess Anastasia!”
I knew it.
Mutaguchi Renya. Yes, that was his name.
