I Have a Penglai Immortal Island

Chapter 004 – The Watchdog Gun Gun

"Zhao Zhao, I don't remember Grandpa ever having a watchdog," Da Linzi asked curiously.

"It was before you could remember. Grandpa really liked that dog. Back then, fishing was easier, and Grandpa fed it with fish that weren't worth much. That dog grew to over 100 pounds and could eat a whole bowl of food at once. Not long after it died, I started school. The burden got heavier, and Grandpa didn't keep another one."

Keeping such a watchdog was like having to feed two or three more people. Even for the islanders now, it was a significant burden. The wealthier ones preferred the more famous breeds that were popular online, so the local watchdogs were nearly extinct.

As Zhao Zhao finished her main task, she took her brother and the bird for a stroll around the town.

Changshan Town had far more tourists than Jinshi Island, with shops everywhere selling swimsuits, float rings, and fishing gear. It was bustling with activity.

At the end of the street, they found a quality sports brand store. Zhao Zhao took Da Linzi inside to pick out a summer outfit and a pair of shoes for him to try on. Da Linzi scratched his long hair and glanced at the store clerk in the distance, whispering, "Zhao Zhao, I usually either go out to sea with Dad or stay at home. I don't need such nice clothes."

"This summer outfit isn't expensive. Go try it on for me, and if it fits, we'll buy it." Obediently, Da Linzi went to the fitting room. The clerks, too preoccupied with surrounding Yaoguang perched on the checkout counter, didn't notice him.

Da Linzi came out of the fitting room and walked over to the mirror, awkwardly tugging at the hem of his shirt. The light gray sports T-shirt, black cuffed sun protection pants, and denim-colored sneakers looked fresh and nice on his tall, well-built frame.

Zhao Zhao had a new idea and telepathically conveyed to Yaoguang, "I was planning to do the live stream myself, but now I have a new idea. This sun-kissed, handsome young man is perfect for sea-themed live streaming. His appearance is tailor-made for outdoor streaming. I'll just direct him. But his hair is a bit long. I'll take him for a haircut later!"

Yaoguang, hearing this, flew over, and the sales clerk finally remembered her job and came over to introduce the outfit. "This quick-dry T-shirt is our new summer style. It's very breathable and comfortable. How does it feel?"

Yaoguang interjected, "It's alright."

It was unclear if it was commenting on the outfit or the person.

Zhao Zhao picked another set in different colors and a pair of running shoes, then went to the checkout. She let Da Linzi wear the outfit out of the store.

Next, she took Da Linzi to a barbershop, instructing the barber to make him look as handsome as possible.

After more than half an hour, she had a sunny, energetic little brother. This was how a 21-year-old brother should look. He looked completely different from the boy she had left home with this morning. While clothing mattered, the haircut also played a significant role.

Zhao Zhao was pleased with this barber and promised to return next time. The barber was so happy he walked them out a long way.

Upon hearing that the next stop was to buy a fish tank, the 185 cm tall Da Linzi felt uneasy. They had just spent over a thousand yuan on clothes, and he said, "Zhao Zhao, maybe we should skip this…"

Zhao Zhao interrupted him, "I said it was your reward. Let's go."

"We've spent a lot of money today, Zhao Zhao, I…"

Feeling her authority as the big sister being challenged, Zhao Zhao took off her glasses and gave her brother a stern look. Passersby stopped to watch from a distance, mesmerized by her beauty. Was she a celebrity?

"Xiong Lin! Does what I say count or not? Do you still listen to me? You've been running wild for too long!"

Da Linzi, used to being controlled by their mother, was not very generous in this regard.

"Xiong Lin, you need to have a broader perspective and be confident! You're very handsome; there aren't many people better than you on this street. Why do you keep scratching your head? It looks very unrefined. Let it go! Stand tall!"

Yaoguang, perched on her shoulder, rolled its eyes. You call this having presence? You looked like a bandit just now with that stern expression.

The "bandit" dragged her brother, carried the dog, and quickly bought a bunch of things, hiring a car to take them to the dock. She indisputably bought a thousand-yuan standing fish tank, an outboard motor, life jackets, and a bunch of fishing gear—all the best. Da Linzi wanted to scratch his head every time he saw the prices…

On the boat, Zhao Zhao telepathically told Yaoguang, "Our small treasury has a balance of twelve thousand yuan left. We're further away from renovating the inn. If our first fishing live stream isn't successful, we'll have to sell apples on the street to eat."

Having been with her for three years, Yaoguang was no longer the same. "How can it not be successful? Just buy more fake followers!"

You know too much.

On the return trip, Yaoguang continued to attract attention like a personal fan meeting. Zhao Zhao vowed to buy a fast boat as soon as possible.

Back home, the first thing she did was give the dog a bath. To ensure it stayed healthy, she infused it with some spiritual energy. The chubby dog was very lively and seemed to be in no immediate danger.

Zhao Zhao was not good at naming pets. She decided to seek others' opinions on the dog's name.

Da Linzi suggested, "Naming a dog is easy. Lucky, Big Yellow, Fortune… any name will do."

"Those names won't do. Shout them at the village entrance, and ten dogs will come running. Yaoguang, what do you think?"

Without hesitation, Yaoguang said, "Yaoguang's Second Guardian!"

"Who gives such a long name? Wait, Second Guardian? Who's the first? …Don't tell me it's who I think it is?"

"Exactly, it's you," Yaoguang nodded.

Da Linzi laughed so hard he fell to the ground. "Is there someone pretending to be a person inside this parrot? How can a bird be this smart, haha…"

You're not far off, kid.

Unable to come up with a name, Zhao Zhao decided to let it go. Looking at the round, chubby dog with deep brown eye circles, she decided to borrow a name from a national treasure and named it Gun Gun.

Regardless of how it might grow up, it was like calling a forty-year-old man "Little Johnny"...

Gun Gun stared at the large parrot on the coffee table and let out a puppy growl, "Woof… ooo…"

Not bad, living in the moment.
