I Have Become A Demon God. Did You Just Ask Me To Be A Minor Villain?

Chapter 37: Oracle! Temple!

“Huh, I’m surprised he didn’t kill us,” one of the protagonists remarked.

“I told you, in the King’s Capital, as long as we avoid making any mistakes, he wouldn’t dare to kill us easily. Doing so would offend the queen and lower his status in the kingdom,” the other replied.

“Well, these villains can only rely on their own identities now. Without them, they are nothing,” the first continued.

“Let’s be cautious, though. The Earl of Blackstone Territory gives me a different feeling from other villains,” the second warned.

“……”

Two protagonists exited the palace where Su Mo lived and engaged in lively conversation on the protagonist panel. They were relieved that the Earl of Blackstone Territory had only tasked them with moving things and had not killed them upon their entry.

Another protagonist showed concern for their situation and asked, “Li Fei, Han Yu, how are you doing?”

“We’re fine. The Earl of Blackstone Territory doesn’t do anything to us,” Han Yu explained.

“I told you not to panic. You guys are too nervous,” another protagonist chimed in.

“I don’t blame them. The Earl of Blackstone Territory dealt with Tang Hua ruthlessly, so it’s natural for them to be nervous,” another protagonist remarked.

“Well, the Earl of Blackstone Territory can’t do whatever he wants. That’s a relief. Otherwise, I will not have dared to come to the capital,” someone else added.

“Indeed, it’s best to come during the blessing ceremony. The capital is heavily guarded these days, and these villains won’t dare to make a move,” the first protagonist concluded.

As a result, the atmosphere within the protagonist group quickly relaxed.

…….

“Your Majesty, Your Majesty, please,” a female officer called out to Su Mo as he was at the palace. He received the notice and left, glancing at the two guards who were standing upright like the others. They had learned their lesson from Tang Hua’s past and were not killed by Su Mo this time, so they felt safe as long as they made no mistakes.

Su Mo boarded the carriage, thinking about the peculiar golden fingers of the two guards. Their cheats were similar, rewarding them with continuous growth in strength as long as they worked in a particular place from 9 to 5. The more potent the site, the faster its strength would increase. It made sense why they joined the guards at the palace, not just to save lives but to become stronger.

The golden fingers of these protagonists were strange, as any type could make them stronger as long as their level increased. However, these two guards didn’t know that Su Mo spared them because their golden fingers seemed useless to him. He wasn’t in a hurry and didn’t want to interfere with his plans, so killing them would be too easy with his relationship with the Crescent Queen.

Su Mo observed the two guards and found their peculiar golden fingers interesting, but he spared them as they did not threaten his plans.

…….

Not long after, Su Mo arrived at another palace, where the Queen of the Crescent informed him of an oracle sent down by the goddess. The Queen seemed worried as she conveyed that the goddess wanted Su Mo to return to the Holy See and become her holy son.

Su Mo understood the implications of this request. It was not good news for the Queen, who had stepped down as a saint to focus on being a Queen and bearing children. A king without a queen and offspring could lead to chaos and instability in the kingdom, as ambitious individuals would seek the support of other gods and compete for the throne.

For these power-hungry individuals, the kingdom’s faith was irrelevant as long as they could gain control of the throne. Su Mo realised the gravity of the situation and the importance of producing a legitimate heir to maintain stability and continuity in the kingdom.

Individuals would even make a deal with a Demon God to obtain their desired outcome. The Queen of the Crescent desired to marry Su Mo wholeheartedly, but her plans were disrupted once the Goddess of the Crescent Moon chose Su Mo as her son. This left her with concerns about how she could marry him.

Nonetheless, this news was still considered great news for an ordinary earl. The Earl’s status and power were incomparable to that of the Son of the Holy See, especially after the Holy Son’s death. The possibility of his soul ascending to the heavens was not insignificant, but Su Mo held other meanings.

If it were the Spike Demon God, he could perfectly disguise himself and become the most trusted son of the Goddess of Heaven. This deception could last tens of thousands or even a lifetime.

“Queen, don’t you mention that the Goddess has never had a son?” Su Mo asked.

The Crescent Queen nodded, “Indeed, she has never had a son. However, no man has ever possessed such a high degree of soul purity. A man can’t pass without the slightest distraction in the face of a goddess.”

While considering a solution, she thought of a method but quickly rejected it. This solution was disrespectful to the goddess and could also negatively affect Su Mo. She wanted Su Mo to deliberately distract thoughts of love and admiration for the goddess when she gazed upon him. However, having such thoughts would mean his belief was not firm, thus significantly reducing the possibility of the Goddess of the Crescent Moon choosing him.

…….

“Let’s head to the Holy See first. Maybe the goddess is simply curious,” the Crescent Queen’s words were meant to comfort herself. The two of them set off once again, and as the carriage made its way out of the palace and into the square below the temple, the Crescent Queen’s mood became complicated and even a little apprehensive. She was afraid that the goddess would take away Su Mo.

There were still many protagonists near the temple, but this time, they naturally avoided provoking Su Mo and deliberately avoided meeting him face-to-face. Eventually, the carriage made its way to the back of the church, where Cardinal Fellen appeared.

After briefly greeting Su Mo, Fellen said, “Your Excellency, please take a bath and change your clothes first.” Soon after, two nuns led Su Mo to a solemnly decorated room and left him alone.

The hot water had already been prepared, and although there was no surveillance, Su Mo bathed with the hot water before putting on fresh clothes and entering a magic array with a purifying effect. The magical array completely removed all the dust and grime from his body.

For ordinary people, such a magic array was considered a luxury. The energy required to activate it once could be equivalent to several days’ food expenses for the average person. Magic-related items and services were naturally expensive. So, despite the world’s advanced magic, the living standards of many ordinary people were low.

After everything was taken care of, Su Mo stepped outside.

“Saint, please take the earl into the temple,” requested Cardinal Fellen. Their solemnity was because they intended to enter the Temple, which was the floating pyramid in the sky.
