I Have Decided to Go Look for My Father

Chapter 257: Sheng Xiuyan’s look froze on his face. (1)

Lin Yize finally realized what he did done when he saw the paleness and reddened eyes on Song Kexin and he quickly walked up, put his arms around her and started to apologize.

“Don’t read too much into this, Kexin. I didn’t mean to get upset at you. It’s just that with the issues with my businesses in the Northeast and I couldn’t come up with any solutions for the time being, I haven’t been in a good mood. I’m sorry.”

Song Kexin, too, panicked a little when she heard Lin Yize’s explanation. “You mean the incident when your merchandises had been confiscated?”

“Yes, that.” Lin Yize nodded and gave Song Kexin an overview of the incident.

“So, you went to try to take care of this today then?”

“Mmhmm,” said Lin Yize. Then, he added, “Running into Meng Zixin was a surprise. I didn’t know that she was an agent for the other party.”

Having heard the explanation, Song Kexin was still feeling unsettled, “Then you and that woman, you two……”

“We just went to talk business was all. She was not worth my time otherwise since the day she had betrayed me.” Having said that, Lin Yize looked at his wife and said, “Besides, you are the one that I love right now and also my wife. You have nothing to worry about.

“Not to mention that what that woman is doing right now is running my business. She is my enemy for certain.” Lin Yize said that viciously but that also quelled some of the toiling emotions within Song Kexin.

“Will you see her in the future then?” asked Song Kexin.

“Even if we do, it will be as enemies,” said Lin Yize as he snickered. What he didn’t tell Song Kexin was that he was planning on asking Meng Zixin out again.

He hasn’t given up the idea of bringing Meng Zixin over to his side and help him out just yet.

He trust that with their past and what Meng Zixin owed him, if they were to meet a few more times and get a little bit closer to each other, she would surely fall for him again quickly and be used by him.

After one night.

Gu Xi had just woken up and gotten out of her room before Aunty Mei shoved an egg into her hand.

“This is customary where I am from. We give children who had nightmares the night before a hard-boiled egg and they will be fine the next day,” said Aunty Mei.

Gu Xi was not one for feudal superstition but hearing what Aunty Mei had said and having the warm egg in her hand still brought warm feelings to her heart.

“Thank you, Grandma Mei,” said Gu Xi as she gave Aunty Mei a smile.

Aunty Mei, too, smiled back at her and asked caringly, “Are you alright now? You didn’t have more nightmares afterward, did you?”

“No.” Gu Xi shook her head.

She had forgotten most of the fear that she had experienced from her dream when she had woken up. The memories from last night, however, were very clear and that she couldn’t not forget about them even if she wanted to.

Remembering how she had bawled in front of Gu Shao and got her tears and snot all over him, Gu Xi felt so embarrassed that she could dig a hole on the floor with her toes.

“Has Dad left already?” asked Gu Xi. Gu Shao normally would be gone by this hour.

Gu Xi hoped that she would get lucky today and not have to run into Gu Shao.

Lo and behold, before she even finished what she was saying, she saw Gu Shao walking over from the direction of the dining room.

Gu Shao didn’t look any different when he looked at Gu Xi. He walked over, patted Gu Xi over her head and said to her, “Go eat your breakfast. I will drop you off school afterward.”

Gu Xi wasn’t sure whether it was her imagination or not. She felt that Gu Shao was particularly tender the way he talked today.

And he wanted to drop her off at school?!

***

Gu Shao took what Aunty Mei had said to him the night before to heart and decided to give his daughter more attention.

Normally, Gu Xi was always happy when Gu Shao said he would take her to school. Today, however––

“No, I can go by myself.” Having said that, Gu Xi ran over to the dining room, grabbed the breakfast on the table and took off.

Leaving behind the baffled Gu Shao.

There was no way Gu Shao would guess that the reason she did not want him to drop her off at school was because she was too embarrassed by what happened the night before and couldn’t face him.
