I Have the Sacred Sword?

Chapter 2 – Decision

Eleonora hesitated for several seconds on whether to obey her candidate's order or not.

Observing the pack of wolves approaching at a rather slow pace through the mist, before Eleonora could react, in the blink of an eye, a small silver wolf boldly lunged forward with its jaws open.

Its movement was so fast and silent that Eleonora didn't even notice it.

What? Was all Eleonora could think of due to the immense surprise she had just experienced.

Before the impact could occur, in the final seconds, Eleonora began to see in slow motion as the wolf's mouth approached with millimeter precision right at her candidate's neck.

At that moment, Eleonora's quick-thinking ability kicked in.

Time seemed to freeze, but it was already too late.

Due to the short distance, Eleonora sensed that when her ability was deactivated, the wolf's jaws would close and end her candidate's life.

Will I have time to activate the possession ability? But... he told me he didn't want it! Should I let him die?

Two questions collided repeatedly in Eleonora's mind.

Wait... Am I nervous?

Despite being in her sword form, Eleonora could feel her heart racing.

I can do this!

The chances were slim, but she could achieve it!

After having several quick thoughts, Eleonora deactivated her ability and failed.

The wolf landed its bite.

In an instant, her connection with the candidate vanished.

No matter how many times she tried, it was useless! She couldn't activate that ability anymore.

Was it because I hesitated?

Was I too overconfident?

Why?

How was it possible that I didn't see that wolf coming?

My vision and abilities are clearly superior! Why has this happened?

Eleonora couldn't believe what was happening.

One part of her said that this was an inevitable outcome.

A barrage of questions and doubts raced through Eleonora's mind.

Failed!

She had failed!

Her heart felt a strong pressure as she realized the reality.

The wolf's bite had been so fierce that the candidate's head violently separated from his body. A torrent of blood gushed from the wound, staining the ground in a macabre trail.

While the wolf dragged the lifeless body of the candidate towards the shadows where its companions were, Eleonora, lying on her bearer's waist, was thrown off balance by the predator's abrupt movements.

The snow crunched under her weight, mixing with the traces of blood on the frozen ground. With a final shudder, she was expelled from her sheath and fell to the ground like a lost fragment of the tragedy that had unfolded.

There she lay, alone and abandoned, amidst the desolate winter landscape.

Bare trees stood like specters in the fog, and the eternal snow covered everything, concealing the traces of life that once existed.

Only the wind and the footsteps of the predators departing with their prey could be heard.

A large part of her powers were now useless. Without a candidate, many of her abilities were limited, so she would now have to wait until another human found her.

With some luck, this process would take weeks or months...

Now Eleonora only had one option.

To wait while reflecting on whether what she had done was right or not.
