chapter 22
22. The Mole, Get Lost
Our location, Kefir’s secret base, is in a small town on the outskirts of the empire Kefir belongs to—the Great Ying Empire. It’s called Dragon Extra Town, and whether it will be renamed after Dragon Extra’s mishap, I don’t know, but… it would take us several days to walk back to the capital of the Great Ying Empire, where Kefir’s real home is.
So, Kefir said he would use the empire’s most advanced technology, the carriage, to take us back, and yes… it’s us.
To be honest, I’m worried that my identity as “Eugelid,” the great villain, will be recognized by others, but then I think: compared to continuing to run and hide from the inevitable death scripts that pop up from time to time, it’s obviously safer to cling to Kefir’s coattails.
More importantly: since they’re willing to let me cling, it would be foolish to let go, wouldn’t it?
Soon, by midday, accompanied by a screeching noise outside the door, Kefir called out to me and Nell to leave with our modest luggage and get into the carriage. I still hadn’t figured out what was so luxurious about this ordinary carriage when Kefir, who had pushed me aboard, already started speaking to the apparently empty driver’s seat.
“Little Horse, my friend.”
“Present, Miss Kefir.”
“Take us to the family estate in London, the capital of the Great Ying Empire.”
With that, Kefir turned to me with a bit of pride, “This is the latest technology of our Great Ying Empire, the magic stone intelligence that obeys basic commands. Just provide the basic route, and it can set off without a driver. Hmm, Ogelid, you seem quite unfazed…”
“Hahaha…”
Surprised my ass, but let’s just play along to keep Kefir happy.
“So, can I also give it commands? Little Horse, my friend.”
“Stinky man, dare to ride in the young lady’s carriage, get lost.”
Is this too artificial intelligence? Is there someone hiding inside?
“I’m sorry, Ogelid! It only listens to my commands.”
Kefir kicked the horse’s behind, and as Little Horse fell silent, the carriage began to move at a steady yet impressive speed. That foul-mouthed broken horse didn’t actually run; the carriage’s movement relied on the magic stone’s operation. It seems Kefir wasn’t lying: a journey of several days could indeed be completed in a day and a half.
“We should be able to return home by tonight if all goes well.”
Inside the carriage, Nell started fussing over the drinks for us, while Kefir, after opening the spacious curtains, let out a deep sigh.
“Ogelid, I’ve decided to trust what you said and recommend myself to my father again. But you should brace yourself for where we’re headed next. Sigh… After all, he’s a despicable charlatan who’s been on the run everywhere. You wouldn’t be clueless about our destination, would you?”
I’m the former villainous charlatan, now I’ve turned over a new leaf and am clinging to your coattails.
In the world of this script, it’s divided among nations, barely maintaining a facade of peace through frequent negotiations and summits. The “Great Ying Empire” that Kefir and I belong to is led by the much-rumored, still-single Queen Louis IV. The empire boasts fertile land, considerable power, and many strong individuals.
At the forefront is the family of the true protagonist, Kefir, the pride of the heavens. Her father is a founding hero of the Great Ying Empire, a half-saintly eighth-tier swordsman, and her mother is a senior minister and strategist by the queen’s side, also an eighth-tier magician. Taken individually, each parent’s story could be the main script for Jack and Mary. There’s no doubt that their daughter Kefir is the pride of the heavens.
So my current situation isn’t great: if they discover my true identity, or if I’m seen as some “wild boy seducing their daughter,” I doubt I’d even get a chance to speak before my head rolls.
“I understand. I’ll be your personal priest from now on.”
“No, no need, just follow my orders when the time comes.”
I didn’t quite grasp Kefir’s meaning.
After Kefir finished speaking hesitantly, and upon seeing Miss Nell diligently serving me a cup of sweet juice, she seemed a bit restless.
Then, she looked around, pulled Nell who was beside me, and… sat down next to me herself.
“Miss, what is this…”
“It’s nothing, I just need to check this charlatan’s body.”
Kefir’s odd remark made my face turn red, and then her hands touched my shoulders, startling both me and my little brother.
In any decent script from ancient to modern times, has any stinky male villain who dared to fancy the “protagonist” ever had a good ending? So even if Kefir is getting handsy with me, I dare not even entertain the thought!
But I couldn’t resist the sensation of Kefir’s touch, and I ended up crying out involuntarily.
“Ow~”
“What should I call you, a ruffian?”
Kefir turned her blushing face away, halting her actions, but her proximity kept her voice and the faint scent of her body lingering around me.
“I’m checking your body.”
“Kefir, please don’t…”
“Cut the jokes. I’ve heard from Nell that you dodged a fourth-tier knight’s attacks without a scratch, right? So I wanted to check if you have a talent in that area.”
“It was prophecy that saved me…”
I wasn’t lying this time.
“I know you can… foresee things, but even with prior knowledge, an ordinary person couldn’t dodge a fourth-tier knight’s onslaught unscathed. At least their reaction wouldn’t keep up.”
As she spoke, Kefir’s voice suddenly softened.
“So, it’s a bit surprising, you look like a beanpole, but you’re quite well-built…”
Maybe it’s from constantly fleeing as the big villain.
So Miss Kefir, please stop touching me, especially in front of Nell…
“Ow~”
No choice, I couldn’t resist the protagonist, so I had to silently endure.
“Don’t make strange noises! I’m just checking your physical strength! Nell, you look away too!”
—
Meanwhile, in another spacious room, a commanding male voice spoke up.
“Little Horse, how much longer until Kefir returns?”
“She’ll be late by a night, sir, due to some unexpected events.”
“What kind of unexpected events?”
“The young miss is in a car that’s swaying back and forth with a strange man, we had to slow down.”
【Crack】
The crystal ball, known as the strongest magical testing device, shattered into nothing but dust.
