chapter 20
20. Banquet
A commoner who doesn’t know where he came from, and a man who doesn’t even know where he came from.
There is only one reason why all the nobles gathered here welcome and are wary of such a person.
‘The strong one.’
A terrible war with demons that lasted for years.
For the sake of personal honor and glory, or for the leap of each power. Each of them pulled out their swords and bravely threw themselves into the battlefield against the demons.
It wasn’t just the Empire. Both the elves and the dwarves. The best of them all gathered and took this opportunity to engrave my name in history.
The problem is that demons are by no means easygoing things.
‘Many talented people have died. Half of the famous knights disappeared in the war.’
‘The elves were so respected… what? New palace? Didn’t she get stabbed by demons too?’
‘An iron warrior, who was said to have great dragon power among the dwarves, died with just one ax.’
A lot of talented people died. I couldn’t even leave a corpse in the clutches of the demons.
In the midst of that terrible and devastating war, that man, Lethe, was the victor from start to finish.
There are as many as three demon kings who died at his hands, and only about 100 middle-class people below him.
The demonic warriors who had slaughtered the imperial army became well-minced meat in his hands.
As soon as a completely unknown figure came to the front, the war turned upside down.
Record-breaking victories achieved by Lette alone, without anyone’s support or help.
A divinity that suddenly emerged, a strong man that no one can deny, a war hero of the empire.
To the extent that the ego elves and stiff dwarves scrambled to say they were great.
“Meet Her Highness, Crown Princess.”
The man entered the banquet hall. He had never been to a place like this before.
That’s why the princess couldn’t stand the smile growing on her lips all the more.
“Welcome, Sir Lethe. It’s so strange to see you in a place like this.”
“Isn’t this the banquet held after the peace talks? Of course you have to attend.”
“Is that so? I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.”
Lethe looked around and asked a question as if she didn’t know anything.
“Looks like no one from the elves and dwarves came?”
“I sent out invitations, but they all said no. He said he was very sorry and sent an apology as well.”
“The internal situation still seems to be confused.”
“Unlike the Empire.”
It may sound like an ordinary conversation, but in reality it was not at all.
– I want to, but I wonder if they will help.
A few hardline aristocrats who guessed the intentions of the two secretly hardened their faces. But what can I do?
One is the Crown Princess of the Empire, and the other is a war hero, even though he has withdrawn from the frontlines.
Because they know that, they are both openly saying that.
If you stick together for too long, there will be excessive checks on each other. The conversation ends here.
Since they were well aware of that, Lete stepped back in front of the crown princess.
“It’s been a while, Sir Lethe.”
“How have you been?”
“hahahaha. See you guys after a long time.”
Of course, just saying hello to the princess isn’t the end. Rather, it is a beginning.
First of all, meet and greet the nobles you know. If you have helped yourself even once, go and ask how they are doing, even empty words.
And some hardline aristocrats were also included in the target.
“Still corrected. Count.”
“Only the look is correct, but the inside is all messed up.”
A conversation with a count who belongs to the hardline faction. What the Count wants to say is clear.
Why are you friendly with the demon lords and why do you support them? Others may not know, but isn’t it that you have to keep your sharp edge against the demons?
Grumbling, saying that because you’re like that, the position of us hardliners is getting smaller and smaller.
“If there is anything I can help with, let me know. Haven’t you helped me before?”
– That’s why I’m telling you to transfer soon. Did I speak well to Her Highness, the Crown Princess?
“Because mental illness is not so easily cured.”
– Is that easier said than done? Can’t you just do it, demons and bastards?
“Oops. I hope you can finish well.”
– That’s the damn thing. If you don’t like it, don’t.
I was recommended, so I did as much as I could. No more. Lette coolly withdrew.
In the meantime, those who were hostile to him in the past will never be forgotten and thoroughly excluded.
It doesn’t matter if it’s moderate or hardliners. I made the wrong decision and I have to take responsibility for it.
“Sir Lethe.”
In that sense, the approaching first prince could be said to be a bastard among bastards.
‘Ha, why is this bastard crawling again?’
Since it is in front of the direct line of the imperial family, I can’t bear to stand crookedly and ask, “What is it?” In my heart, I want to say ‘Revolucion!’ But the crown princess is caught. She lowered her head slowly, calming her seething stomach.
“Meet the prince.”
“You are such a busy man. It’s because it’s so hard to say goodbye.”
Aristocrats nearby flinch at the sarcastic remark. However, Lethe’s answer that came next made them stunned.
“So, didn’t the prince come personally?”
I’m trying to turn it around as much as possible, but in the end, there is only one thing Lethe wants to say. A chilling warning to you, don’t get impatient and crawl in front of me and talk nonsense.
It’s the empire that made him a war hero, and he’s the prince of that empire, so he’ll treat you once, but the invisible threat of the ‘Evil Grinder’ that it might not be fun in this way.
“….”
The first prince also understood what Lethe was trying to say. Suddenly, her face turns red.
I want to shout, ‘Immediately tie this weightlifting!’. I want to see her begging for her life.
But, but? Is there anyone who can subdue this human in this banquet hall? Even if you call all of your escorts, the chances of winning are low. No, it shouldn’t be there at all.
Even my sister, the crown princess, is on the side of that man. She is his strong supporter. In this situation, ten is your own defeat. Even if you live, you will not be alive.
Uh-
The first prince gritted his teeth. f*cking commoners, I’m just lucky that I don’t even know the basics.
She is dumbfounded as to whether she dares to give herself such an insult and still wants to live a normal life.
Of course, if Lethe had listened to the first prince’s intentions, he would have slashed him in the back of the head, saying, ‘f*ck you, too.’
In contrast to the fact that the Crown Princess immediately recognized his true worth and provided full support from the beginning of the war, the first prince was busy dismissing him as a commoner. He only wanted to win the hearts of the nobles with it.
He once suffered quite a bit by blatantly refusing a request for support.
It’s not enough to be thankful that he didn’t kill and save his life right now, but since he believed in the title of prince and did that, it was a moment when Lethe’s point of view became desperate for revolution.
‘I really owe the Crown Princess something, so I’m saving her. Consider yourself lucky If that woman was an iron-blooded woman who could easily get rid of even her own family, you would have been cut off and hung up.’
Her Highness the Crown Princess. I want to say that even now, make a decision to save the country for the sake of the empire. I want to kill all hardliners and enjoy the life of a possessor in a peaceful academy.
Isn’t that why he went through so much hardship during the war that he was covered in blood?
“Ha ha ha. Sir Lethe is right, brother. Why are you even talking to me first?”
At this time, the 2nd prince sneaks up on her and pushes the 1st prince back without anyone noticing.
“… 2Nd Prince degraded.”
“It’s been a while, Sir Lethe.”
She is different from the 1st prince, who has nothing to say as a talent. She’s obviously talented.
Her problem is that her talent is not focused on discussing the great power like her crown princess, but on her own skill. That’s why she entered into an alliance with the first prince.
“I want you to understand my brother.”
“I understand. You are saying unreasonable things.”
“You must have been a little excited. About Lord Lete, the great war hero who saved the demons in the past. Of course, it’s not that I don’t know Lord Lethe’s position. As an ordinary person who doesn’t even know if he’s destined to become a demon king, that momentary sympathy is hard to pass by.”
“….”
This is the beginning. It’s a start again. A war waged not with swords and magic, but with tongues and words.
Lethe, who muttered inwardly that this is not her taste, quietly waited for the second prince’s next words.
“But did I really have to save the demons? I can’t help but wonder about this. Didn’t they massacre demons without mercy even during the war right now? To think that such a person would save demons just a few years ago. I think the demon lords who died at your hands would be very embarrassed if they heard it.”
“There is such a thing as a change of heart, low.”
“Yes. A change of heart is for everyone. Like some of the ones I saw during the war.”
Aha. She wasn’t quite sure what the hell she was trying to say, but this must be what she was aiming for. Lethe let out a sneer inside and looked at the second prince.
There are two reasons why the empire was greatly pushed back by the demons during the war.
One, first of all, it was overwhelmingly inferior to the demons in all areas. Force, magic, numbers, even will.
Two, even traitors appeared in the middle. From ordinary citizens to high-ranking nobles, they used to sell out the people around them for their own comfort.
Now the 2nd prince is sneaking the second one at Lethe.
Hasn’t it been a long time since you betrayed the empire and tried to eat the demons? Otherwise, after saving the demons, there is no way he could become a demon crusher after a few years.
Like a person struggling to change his or her evaluation of himself, like a traitor trying to erase the past.
“I hope to live happily with Sir Lethe and the war hero of the Empire for a long time.”
– So, take care of us hardliners too. It’s a bit sad if you keep doing this. Didn’t I still take care of you at all?
The 2nd prince disappears with the red-faced 1st prince, saying that he will go now.
Lethe was quietly watching her back. Yes, as he said, the second prince took care of a little bit, so think a little more leisurely. Think….
‘… Shall I just harvest the heads?’
Oh my God. What am i thinking now Lethe shook her head hastily.
I’ve been watching Astaroth for the past few days, and it seems that my head harvest obsession has shifted in that short time!
